Agape Community Center has been a beacon of hope, determination, support and success for thousands of area residents since 1986. As a community center, Agape has the unique advantage of welcoming youth, adults, families and seniors into its facility through a broad range of educational, social, recreational, cultural, health and life-long learning opportunities.

Agape Community Center has been active in community and neighborhood development efforts for the past six years. Neighborhood development staff focuses on partnerships and financing to stimulate revitalization in Agape's nine Milwaukee neighborhoods. Strong families and strong neighborhoods go hand-in-hand. Each depends on trust, support, stability, and a sense of connection. Agape Community Center is committed to making the northwest side a geographic region with vibrant neighborhoods where people want to live

After School Program provides recreational, academic, and social activities for children ages 7 – 13 after school and on days when school is not in session.

Community Meals Sharing a meal is a way to build community. Join us with your family, friends, and neighbors on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 5:30pm. Favorites include spaghetti, roast pork loin and potatoes, and chili.

Health Initiatives In collaboration with Cardinal Stritch University's College of Nursing, meal guests and program participants and other visitors to our facility have had the opportunity for blood pressure checks, early detection of vision or hearing problems, health education, and general health or medication consultations. Agape hosts various health and fitness workshops, and features an exercise room with high-quality equipment. All are invited to join the workshops or utilize the exercise room.

Intergenerational Programming Our ability to stay in touch with individuals and families through family liaisons provides assurance that all who walk through our doors are supported in reaching goals they set for themselves, their families, and their community.

Senior Programs For many of these seniors, Agape Community Center plays an important role in their routines and their well-being. Social connections are made and kept, meals are shared and special activities such as luncheons and senior dances help older adults remain physically and emotionally self-sufficient. Bingo is one of our most popular regular activities. It is open to all seniors on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons starting at 4pm

Summer Youth Activities Agape Community Center's Summer Youth Program offers weeks of recreation, learning, and fun for more than 100 youths ages 4-12. During the long stretch of summer vacation, many children need something positive to do with their time.

Who We Are

For many years, community and government organizations have been trying to assist communities in breaking from poverty, disease, illiteracy, violence and hunger. However, in many central cities across the country, despite great amounts of financial assistance, little change results.

The emerging view today, as society's beliefs have changed, is one of sustainable development by seeking to integrate spiritual, physical and social aspects into the “change process.”

Brothers and Sisters In Christ Serving (BASICS) in Milwaukee, is a Christian organization which provides “ministry outreach leadership and resources” to prepare indigenous leaders to support sustainable community development by integrating spiritual, social and physical aspects into the change process .

BASICS recognizes the need for equipping Christian leaders to administer ministries in holistic ways and is committed to effecting a spirit of unity. Its primary partners are both church and outreach ministries whose missions are based upon Christian values and a commitment to serving the needs of central cities.

What Are We Doing

The City of Milwaukee has many excellent faith-based ministries working on the front lines of need. Their leaders and volunteers are moved by a genuine passion to relieve suffering. Like all growing organizations, they need counsel to make the most of their efforts. For ministries showing promise for ongoing, fruitful service, and willing to be accountable for their actions, BASICS provides help in these project areas.

It brings resources and expertise together and matches them with the needs of our community; especially recent African Immigrants and Refugees, helping them transition and integrate smoothly into a new society and economic structure.

Our Vision PACA envisions African immigrants and refugees making a smooth adjustment into American society, enjoying the rights and fulfilling their obligations as integral members of their community.

Our Mission PACA brings together all people of African descent to preserve and enrich African cultural values through education, empowerment and dialogue; serving the needs of African immigrants and refugees and of the greater Milwaukee community.

PROGRAMS Run largely through volunteer effort, PACA has been involved in providing services for African immigrants and refugees in the Greater Milwaukee area. The organization strives to provide services that facilitate access to jobs, housing, transportation, medical care, education, and support for families. PACA has developed and continues to successfully run 4 integral initiatives :

1. African Women Entrepreneurship : an economic development effort designed to help refugee women become economically self sufficient. 2. Coalition of African Youth : a program that creates educational activities for immigrant and refugee students. 3. After School Program for African Immigrant & Refugee students : a program developed jointly with the Milwaukee Public Schools system to help refugee and immigrant children keep up with their school work. 4. Supportive Social Services : an initiative that engages in case management for refugees, job placement, referrals, interpretation/translation, preparation for citizenship test, etc.

For 52 years, Silver Spring Neighborhood Center has been a stabilizing presence of Milwaukee’s Northwest side. Silver Spring Neighborhood Center is a nonprofit social service agency whose mission is to build a safer, stronger neighborhood in the community. The center was founded on the settlement house model in 1958 to serve the residents of northwest Milwaukee and the neighboring communities. Located in the heart of West lawn, the State of Wisconsin’s largest low-income public housing development, Silver Spring Neighborhood Center serves this community as well as residents coming from many surrounding areas.

Our mission is to create peaceful communities in which domestic respect and a life free from violence is the right of every woman, man and child.

Sojourner Family Peace Center provides education, advocacy and resources to keep people safe. We operate a 42-bed shelter that has provided safety and support services to thousands of women and children. Other programs include a 24-Hour Domestic Violence Hotline, Domestic Abuse Victim Advocates in the Milwaukee District Attorney’s Office, Belle Resource Center for Women and Children, Courthouse Advocacy and Restraining Order Clinic, Legal Emergency Assistance, Children’s Advocacy, Ending Violence through Education and BA-Beyond Abuse, for men and women seeking alternatives to abusive behavior. Sojourner Family Peace Center is committed to creating communities where people live peacefully.

In February of 2009, the Task Force on Family Violence and Sojourner Truth House joined together to form a single organization, Sojourner Family Peace Center. The goal of this merger is to more effectively and efficiently deliver domestic violence victims a broad range of resources and services. Combining the services of the two organizations means families will have a single, strong organization to turn to and one resource to go for help. The merger also allows the agencies, which have a long history of grant and fundraising collaboration, to increase program efficiencies and streamline fundraising efforts. We Are Here To Help
