We are now beginning our 45th week of being back at Mass together – Since May 18 2020, we've hosted approximate- ly 489 Masses total. We have 0 incidents of community transmission of coronavirus at Mass. Archdiocesan guidelines ask for a face-covering to be worn during Mass. We do allow health exemptions. If you have questions, please contact me. If anyone needs to see my exemption letter from my doctor, come see me in my office.

Learning the Mass - and Veiling Statues

Today is Passion Sunday, two weeks before Easter, when we veil statues and images with violet cloth. This is a fine old tradition. It has to do with deprivation of the senses and the liturgical dying of the Church in preparation for the Lord’s tomb and resurrection. We sense something of the humiliation of the Lord as he enters His Passion, something of His inte- rior suffering. The crucifix is unveiled at the Good Friday service, during which the cross is venerated by the faithful.

Here's the current Marian Hymn after Mass

Ave regina caelorum, ave domina angelorum: salve radix, salve porta, ex qua mundo lux est orta: Gaude Virgo, gloriosa, super omnes speciosa, vale o valde decora, et pro nobis Christum exora. Fr. Michael Responding to the Call

EVERYDAY STEWARDSHIP - Recognize God In Your Ordinary Moments When Our Own Hour Comes

We parents know that it’s tricky, tackling the topic of fear with our kids. We want them to know that it’s okay to be scared, that it’s something we all feel from time to time. We want them to understand that bravery isn’t the absence of fear, but the choices we make in persevering despite that feeling.

Most of all, we want to model the right kind of behavior for our kids. Whatever our scary situation is — illness, a job loss, life changes — we want them to see us make a choice to face that fear head-on.

Jesus seems to be the parent who is gently broaching the topic of fear with his children. A great sense of foreboding hangs over these readings. knew what was coming. He knew it was going to be hard, both for him and for his follow- ers, who did not have his courage. Even he admits to being “troubled” and he speaks of “the time of judgment.” There is the dramatic raising of Lazarus, the talk of how a grain of wheat must die in order to bear fruit, the depiction of Christ as an obedient student of his own suffering.

“Yet what should I say?” he asks them. “‘Father, save me from this hour?’ But it was for this purpose that I came to this hour.”

This week, Christ gives us a very parental gift: He shows us his fear, and he shows us how to conquer it. He challenges us to embrace the purpose for which we came to this hour — whatever that hour may hold.

Stewardship “I will be their God and they shall be my people.”- JEREMIAH 31:33 What does it mean to be God’s people? It means we rec- ognize that everything we have and everything we are belongs to God. We aren’t “owners” of anything, we are merely “stewards” of the gifts God has given us. It means we are willing to use our gifts and our lives to care for our family, our neighbors and for people we don’t know, just as God cares for each of us.

We arrived safely in Casablanca, the chief port and largest city in Morocco with about 4 million inhabit- ants. Casablanca is the setting of the 1942 film of the same name starring Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman. The film achieved worldwide popularity winning three Academy Awards including Best Picture. With sunny skies and temperatures in the mid-60s, we hit the ground walking and journeyed to the Republic of Tu- nisia. This northern country of Africa is known for its ancient ruins of Carthage, the beaches along the Mediterrane- an coastline, the resorts on the island of Djerba as well as safaris that can be undertaken. Tunisia is slightly larger than the state of Georgia and has a mild Mediterranean climate. The capital of Tunis was formerly known as Car- thage, which fell to the Romans in 146 BC. The ruins of Carthage are located under some suburbs of the modern city. The official language of Tunisia is , however both French and English are taught at school. The educa- tion of young people is good and Tunisians on average enjoy 15 years of education including school, Tunisia college and university. Women rights are considered advanced in Tunisia. Arranged marriages and being married to more than one woman are illegal. Great job on tracking and reporting your mileage weekly. We have traveled far once again this week on our Lenten journey!
