Jordanhill School

This booklet contains details of the standard . The neat, tidy turnout of our pupils is a credit to parents and is an important factor in the school’s reputation in the community.

It would be greatly appreciated if parents would ensure that pupils wear the appropriate uniform at all times.

The Purposes of Uniform

The wearing of uniform has been strongly endorsed by the parent body and is condition of acceptance of a place in Jordanhill School.

Uniform enhances a young person’s sense of belonging and ensures that no person feels isolated or can be bullied because they are “different”. Uniform moderates many of the pressures on adolescents. Its visibility encourages responsibility in the community.

take the competition out of ✓ Uniforms keep the focus on learning, not clothing ✓ Easy mornings for families ✓ Uniforms create a feeling of oneness and belonging. ✓ Give the public a positive impression ✓ Uniforms bring an image of success to students and teachers ✓ Safety – ‘intruders’ are easily identifiable

While there are costs for parents, the wearing of uniform reduces wear and tear on other clothing, items such as blazers can be used by more than one child and it is easier for parents to resist demands for expensive designer clothing. A lack of uniform in a school accentuates social and economic differences.

Variations on standard uniform are agreed for a wide variety of reasons relating to medical conditions, religious beliefs, additional support needs, gender orientation or any protected characteristic.

It is important that the needs of an individual are well understood and the implications of variations are explored with a young person and parents so that appropriate support mechanisms are in place. Please contact the Head of Primary or Head of Year in Secondary if you wish to discuss such options.
