Tilley Endurables Eco-Airflow Hats

Tilley Endurables adds another facet to their lineup of quality head wear by introducing the “Eco-Airflo” line. These hats, made from organically grown cotton, that use no toxic chemicals, synthetic fertilizers or pesticides in its production, have a durable sueded finish, and 3/4 inch of mesh in the crown to blow off the heat while hiking in warm conditions. The “Eco-Airflo” comes with either a medium width brim or a wide brim.

Tilly is doing something correctly, as indicated by their selection as the official hat of the American Association for (AANR) Annual for the 7th year in a row.. Being selected as the only clothing for a group of people who shun clothing is a testament to the benefits of a quality product.

Lowe-Alpine Hyperlite Packs

I have always have had the perception that Lowe-Alpine has made bomb-proof, but very heavy packs. This perception was shattered by my visit this summer to the Lowe-Alpine booth this summer, and my tour through their spring 2010 lines of packs. While these packs seem well made; “heavy” was nowhere on the radar. All of their packs, even the fully featured “TFX” line will offer significantly reduced weight over the current models, improved fit, added attention to the women’s specific fit and comfort, along with a contemporary look and coloring.

The packs that really caught my eye were the new “Hyperlite” series, developed to appeal to the ultra-light backpacker, looking an alternative to the sack with straps. This line consists of Nanon and Zepton models in both men’s and women’s specific designs. These packs have a diminutive weight thanks to the Dyneema fabric, but sacrifice no fit, comfort, or durability issues like many “utra-light” products often do. The 50 liter Zepton is listed with 2lb 10 oz average weight, while the 60 liter total capacity Nanon clocks in at 3lbs 1 oz. I am looking forward to stacking up these packs to some of the other recent ultra-light offerings, and see how they perform. I have a feeling they will be a hit.

Outdoor Research

Outdoor Research has introduced a line of really fun “Graphic Drysacks”. While these wild drysacks provide eyecandy, the graphics also serve a practical purpose. By packing your gear into the different designs, it gives an addled mind a chance at the end of a long day to distiguish where that essential piece of gear is located. This certainly works with different colored drysacks as well, but why be so mundane when you have these beauties available.
