Through his commissions he did not only build a house and furnish it, but also erected a monument of the history of his family. By comparing parts of the furnishing of the Neues SchloB with contemporary objects which are partly in the house it is evident that the majority of these are influenced by the Empire style. Although this era is known under the name Biedermeier, its source of style and decoration is clearly Empire.

How To Paint Black Furniture-A Dozen Examples Of Exceptional Black Painted Furniture frenchstyleauthority.com /archives/how-to-paint-black-furniture-a-dozen-examples-of-exceptional-black- painted-furniture Black furniture has been one of the most popular furniture paint colors in history, and a close second is white. Today, no other color comes close to these two basic colors which always seem to be a public favorite. No matter what the style is, black paint has been fashionable choice for French furniture, and also for primitive early American, regency and modern furniture. While the color of the furniture the same, the surrounds of these distinct styles are polar opposite requiring a different finish application. Early American furniture is often shown with distressing around the edges. Wear and tear is found surrounding the feet of the furniture, and commonly in the areas around the handles, and corners of the cabinets or commodes. It is common to see undertones of a different shade of paint. Red, burnt orange are common colors seen under furniture pieces. Furniture made from different woods, are often painted a color similar to wood color to disguise the fact that it was made from various woods. Paint during this time was quite thin, making it easily naturally distressed over time. – Black-painted Queen Anne Tilt-top Birdcage Tea Table $3,000 Connecticut, early 18th century, early surface of black paint over earlier red Joseph Spinale Furniture is one of the best examples to look at for painting ideas for early American furniture. This primitive farmhouse kitchen cupboard is heavily distressed with black paint.

  • American History Tour in Paris, France (This Is a Proposed And/Or Sample Tour)
American History Tour in Paris, France (This is a proposed and/or sample tour) Discover American History in Paris by Mary Jo Once you have been on this tour, you will forever have a deeper emotion on each 4th of July as Americans celebrate our historic declaration of independence from England and the results of the American Revolution. You will have a deeper affection for Paris, one of the most beautiful cities in the world, because of the direct links between that city and our revolution. In addition, you will see the places where Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, John Paul Jones and others lived and established themselves in both French and American history. While living in Paris, I learned much about the historic connections between France and the United States, especially in relation to the American Revolution. I discovered numerous plaques, statues, squares, streets, and churches all over Paris that refer to these historic connections. I was given a book by a friend that provides much information about these places and these connections. Now I am passionate that more Americans know where these places are, what the signs and plaques say (most of them are written in French), and why they are there. Come explore with me American History in Paris. You will see Paris in a different way – through the lens of American history. A Flexible Itinerary I have planned an itinerary that allows a good deal of free time so that you can fall in love with Paris in your own way. In addition, we will be a small group, no more than 12.

Emlen Urban The City of Lancaster, Pennsylvania – 1 – To Build Strong and Substantial Introduction In A History of Lancaster County (1924), historian H.M.J. Klein wrote of architect C. Emlen Urban: “Few men of Lancaster County can point to a finer array of useful and beautiful work than can Cassius Emlen Urban, of the City of Lancaster, whose skilled hand and artistic talent mean much to the civic dignity of this and other municipalities.” Over the span of a 45-year career in Lancaster, Urban’s designs included major commercial and public buildings, churches, hotels, schools, industrial buildings and private residences. His designs were stylistically eclectic, reflecting the influence of Queen Anne, French Renaissance, Gothic Revival, Beaux Arts and Colonial Revival periods. Although he spent his entire professional career living within the City of Lancaster, his designs were informed by knowledge of classical and historical architecture as well as work being produced by his contemporaries in larger cities such as Philadelphia and New York.

This monograph totally neglects the archaeological and architectural aspects of the castle of Sailhant, and provides no real description or dates. Alfred Douet concentrates mainly on the genealogy of the Lords of Sailhant: he uses and completes data taken from the ancient book of Baluze (among others) about the Lords of Auvergne. He also focuses on the purpose of the castle during the Hundred Years’ war, and uses works published before his book and written by another local historian specialized in texts, Marcelin Boudet, famous for his archival work and his scientific method. The goal here is not to simply paraphrase or summarize Alfred Douet’s complex work but to retain the essential contextual information which will allow us to refine the hypothesis relative to the nature and dates of the successive campaigns of construction which are still imprinted in the fabric of the existing castle.
