Passaic County Executive Superintendent of Schools’ Office

The Executive County Superintendent of Schools is the representative of the Commissioner of Education in Passaic County and is responsible for working with local school districts, teachers, parents, and students in accomplishing or maintaining compliance with state and federal regulations.

According to Title 18A:7-8 General Powers and Duties, each executive county superintendent shall:

a. Visit and examine from time to time all of the schools under his/her general supervision and exercise general supervision over them in accordance with the rules prescribed from time to time by the state board;

b. Keep himself/herself informed as to the management, methods of instruction and discipline and the courses of study and textbooks in use, the condition of the school libraries, and the condition of the real and personal property, particularly in respect to the standards for school buildings, and make recommendations in connection therewith; c. Advise with the counsel of the boards of education of the local districts under his/her general supervision and of any other district of the county when so requested, in relation to the performance of their duties; d. Promote the consolidation of administrative, educational and operational services within and among the school districts in the county; e. Review and approve the employment contracts of certain district administrators according to standards adopted by the Commissioner; f. Implement all state regulations for district accountability, efficiency and budgeting procedures as prescribed by Title 6A, Chapter 23A of the Administrative Code (N.J.A.C.); g. Perform such other duties as shall be prescribed by law.

In light of this, the following are job target areas: oversight, technical assistance, approvals, and/or support are provided in the areas of comprehensive planning for improving students outcomes; safe instructional facilities; safe and efficient transportation; teacher certification; special education; program and fiscal accountability through implementation of a monitoring system; responsible fiscal practices; administrative and liaison services for mandated programs, and program development and implementation.
