2015-2016 Profile 2015-2016 Profile 67Highlander Drive, West Milford, NJ 07480 973-697-1701 Fax 973-208-0912 www.wmtps.org West Milford Township is a residential, rural-suburban community of approximately 80 square miles, a mix of highlands, forest, and residential neighborhoods, with a population of 27,300. Located in northern Passaic County New Jersey, the township is less than fifteen minutes from the Route 23/Rt 287 corridor, approximately 40 miles west of New York City and is in close proximity to the academic communities of Montclair State University, William Paterson University, Ramapo College, and several community colleges. The demographically diverse community, which includes professionals and executives as well as small business owners and people working in the trades, has attracted families to the beautiful setting and excellent school system. West Milford High School focuses on a college preparatory curriculum, featuring 22 Honors and 21 Advanced Placement courses. Of the class of 2014, 73.8% went on to study at 4-year or 2-year colleges. Many of these students are in the first generation of their families to attend college. We also recognize that all our students are unique individuals with their own interests, abilities, and goals. Therefore, we are committed to providing an educational program suitable to the needs of every student. The commitment leads us to provide a challenging and comprehensive education in an orderly and safe environment which enriches the intellectual, cultural, and ethical lives of our students. We strive to produce lifelong learners dedicated to realizing their full potential. The West Milford educational experience nurtures their development as individuals who are confidant participants in the global community. ADMINISTRATION STUDENTS Paul Gorski, Principal West Milford High School students are high achievers Doreen Dransfield, Assistant Principal in a challenging scholastic environment. A high percentage Karen Johnson, Assistant Principal of students balance the core curriculum and elective courses Nicholas Pollaro, Assistant Principal with participation in one or more of the 20 varsity sports and dozens of student activities. GUIDANCE DEPARTMENT Myra Aaronson, Supervisor of Guidance CURRICULUM Melissa Csengeto, Ext 7045 West Milford High School requires students to complete a Monika Drucker, Ext 7046 rigorous curriculum. The school day is 8 periods, Donald Heaney, Ext 7047 including lunch and PE. Students in grades 9 - 12 are Dana Lambert, Ext 7043 required to carry a minimum of 30 credits per year and Suzanne Mentlik, Ext 7044 must earn 120 credits for graduation. 4 years of English FACULTY 3 years of Mathematics West Milford High School’s faculty consists of 121 3 years of Science highly-qualified individuals, a majority of whom hold 3 years of Social Studies advanced degrees. West Milford High School faculty members are frequently recognized for their 1 year of Foreign Language achievements both in and out of the classroom. 4 years of Physical Education/Health 1 year of Visual or Performing Arts 1 year of Practical Art/Career Exploration .5 year of Personal Finance CLASS RANK STUDENT DISTINCTIONS The grade point average is based upon 4.0 system with National Merit Scholars-1 Commended all subjects included. Junior and Senior year cumulative GPA AP Scholars – 8 Scholars, 8 with Honors, 9 with Distinction and rank are indicated on the final transcript. Rank is determined by a weighted GPA. Both Honor and AP level CLASS OF 2015 courses receive an extra point. GPA and Rank are cumulative Class Size: 302 after the 6th and 7th semester.
