The University has suffered serious loss by death of the following distinguished figures. Henry W. Sackett, a Trustee of the University, died in New York City on December 9, 1929. He was Alumni Trustee from 1899 to 1909; in 1909 he was appointed a trustee by the Governor of the State of New York; in January 1914 he was elected by the Board to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Stewart L. Woodford and he served continuously as a member of the Board from that time until his death. Daniel P. Witter, President of the New York State Agricultural Society and thereby an ex-officio Trustee of the University, died in Berkshire, New York, on January 9, 1930. E. Gorton Davis, Professor of Landscape Architecture, died in Ithaca on May 23, 1930. He came to Cornell in 191 1 as assistant professor of rural art. From 1912 to 1916 he was assistant pro fessor of landscape art and in June T916 was promoted to a professor ship in that subject. In 1922 he became professor of landscape architecture and held that position until his death. F. H. Hall, Associate in Research in the Division of Horticulture of the New York State Experiment Station at Geneva, died October 18, 1929. Earl C. Smith, Instructor in English, died April 1, 1930. The Trustees Horace White was appointed by the Governor to succeed himself as trustee for a term of five years. C. H. Baldwin was elected President of the New York State Agri cultural Society in January in succession to Mr. Witter and thus became an ex-officio trustee of the University. H. E. Babcock was appointed by the New York State Grange in February as its representative on the Board. He succeeds W. H. Pratt. 6 PRESIDENT S REPORT At the meeting of the Board held in February, E. N. Sanderson, an alumni trustee whose term would have expired in 1934, was elected by the Board to the trusteeship left vacant by the death of Mr. Sackett. On June 16, 1930 Trustees G. F. Baker, C. M. Schwab, and H. R. Ickelheimer were elected to succeed themselves for five-year terms. The Alumni re-elected M. M. Upson a trustee for a five-year term and elected John B. Tuck of the Class of '93 for a five-year term in succession to A. D. Warner, Jr., whose term expired in June 1930. The Alumni also elected Mr. Warner a trustee to fill the unexpired term of E. N. Sanderson's alumni trusteeship. Professor Ernest Merritt was elected Faculty Representative on the Board of Trustees January 1, 1930, succeeding Frank Thilly, whose term expired on that date. W. C. Teagle was elected a member of the Medical College Council vice R. H. Williams, whose term had expired in June 1929. M. C. Taylor was re-elected a member of the Medical College Council for a term of three years. J. T. Newman was elected a member of the Committee on Build ings and Grounds in succession to H. W. Sackett, deceased. H. R. Ickelheimer and M. M. Upson were re-elected members of the Finance Committee. A. D. Warner, Jr., was re-elected a member of the Heckscher Research Council. With a newly recorded species, P. comptipennis Enderlein, a total of six Korean aulacids are recognized: Aulacus salicius Sun and Sheng, 2007, Pristaulacus insularis Konishi, 1990, P. intermedius Uchida, 1932, P. kostylevi Alekseyev, 1986, P. jirisani Smith and Tripotin, 2011, and P. comptipennis Enderlein, 1912. A key to species of Korean Aulacidae is provided with, redescription and diagnostic characteristics of Pristaulacus comptipennis. Keywords: Aulacidae, Pristaulacus comptipennis, new record, Korea Introduction of Yeungnam University (YNU, Gyeongsan, Korea). Also, for identification of Korean Aulacidae, type materials of Family Aulacidae currently includes 244 extant species some species were borrowed from NIBR. Images were placed in two genera: Aulacus Jurine, 1807 with 76 species obtained using a stereo microscope (Zeiss Stemi SV 11 and Pristaulacus Kieffer, 1900 with 168 species.     NOTES ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE LINGUISTIC SOCIETY OF AMERICA 1924 TO 1950 MARTIN JOOS for JENNIE MAE JOOS FORE\\ORO It is important for the reader of this document to know how it came to be written and what function it is intended to serve. In the early 1970s, when the Executive Committee and the Committee on Pub1ications of the linguistic Society of America v.ere planning for the observance of its Golden Anniversary, they decided to sponsor the preparation of a history of the Society's first fifty years, to be published as part of the celebration. The task was entrusted to the three living Secretaries, J M. Cowan{who had served from 1940 to 1950), Archibald A. Hill {1951-1969), and Thomas A. Sebeok {1970-1973). Each was asked to survey the period of his tenure; in addition, Cowan,who had learned the craft of the office from the Society's first Secretary, Roland G. Kent {deceased 1952),was to cover Kent's period of service. At the time, CO'flal'\was just embarking on a new career. He therefore asked his close friend Martin Joos to take on his share of the task, and to that end gave Joos all his files. Joos then did the bulk of the research and writing, but the~ conferred repeatedly, Cowansupplying information to which Joos v.t>uldnot otherwise have had access. Joos and HiU completed their assignments in time for the planned publication, but Sebeok, burdened with other responsibilities, was unable to do so. Since the Society did not wish to bring out an incomplete history, the project was suspended.

September 1997 Specimens representing 19 orders and 169 arthropod families (mostly insects) were collected from greenleaf manzanita brushfields in northeastern California and identified to species whenever possible. More than500 taxa below the family level wereinventoried, and each listing includes relative frequency of encounter, life stages collected, and dominant role in the greenleaf manzanita community. Specific host relationships are included for some predators and parasitoids. Herbivores, predators, and parasitoids comprised the majority (80 percent) of identified insects and related taxa. The taxonomy of this lineage has been the subject of several recent, intensive efforts, but the lineage lacked a robust phylogeny. In this paper we present a new phylogeny, based on increased taxonomic sampling and data from six molecular markers (mitochondrial 16S and COI, and nuclear markers 28S, RPS23, CAD, and AM2), the latter used for the first time in phylogenetic reconstruction. Our intent is to provide a robust phylogeny that will stabilize and facilitate revision of the higher-level classification. We also show the continued utility of molecular motifs, especially the presence of an intron in the RPS23 fragments of certain taxa, to diagnose evaniid clades and assist with taxonomic classification.

    AMERICAN MUSEUM NOVITATES Number 3871, 28 pp. January 27, 2017 New Evanioid Wasps from the Cenomanian of Myanmar (Hymenoptera: Othniodellithidae, Aulacidae), with a Summary of Family-Group Names among Evanioidea MICHAEL S. ENGEL1 ABSTRACT Three new evanioid wasps (Euhymenoptera: Evanioidea) are described and figured from individuals preserved in mid-Cretaceous (earliest Cenomanian) amber from northern Myan- mar. The new species represent the families Othniodellithidae and Aulacidae, both previously recorded from Burmese amber. Xenodellitha preta, new genus and species, is the second oth- niodellithid wasp and the diagnosis of the family is slightly emended in order to accommodate this species. The subfamily Hyptiogastritinae (Aulacidae) is expanded to include Protofoenus Cockerell and a third genus from Burmese amber. Archeofoenus tartaricus, new genus and spe- cies, is the third known species of the extinct aulacid subfamily Hyptiogastritinae, differing from Hyptiogastrites electrinus Cockerell in the low position of the discal cell and the open subdiscal cell in the forewing, and from Protofoenus swinhoei Cockerell in the form of the head and mandible, coloration, and forewing venational details. Together, Archeofoenus and Proto- foenus are placed in Archeofoenini, new tribe. The last species is similar to the genus Electro- foenus Cockerell, and together they are classified in Electrofoenini among the Aulacidae. Electrofoenops diminuta, new genus and species, is distinguished from Electrofoenus on the basis of wing venation. Introduction Aulacidae comprises 242 extant species belonging to two genera (TURRISI et al. 2009 and subsequent additions, e.g., TURRISI 2013; TURRISI and MADL 2013; WA T ANABE et al. 2013), Aulacus Jurine, 1807, with 76 species and Pristaulacus Kieffer, 1900 (including the former Panaulix Benoit, 1984), with 166 species. E-mail: [email protected] Abstract In the context of the biodiversity conservation of the oceanic Ogasawara Islands, the parasitoid species of Aulacidae are reviewed. We examined material from eight islands with or without invasion of the introduced lizard Anolis carolinensis (Voigt 1832) (green anoles): two species of Pristaulacus Kieffer 1900, P. boninensis Konishi, 1989, and P. anijimensis sp. nov., are recognized. The former species is widely distributed in the islands, whereas the latter species is found from a single island only, Anijima Island. Although this island appears to be currently well preserved, the recent introduction of green anoles will probably affect the conservation status of many species, including the endemic P. anijimensis sp. nov. A description of the new species, detailed drawings and descriptions of genitalia of both recognized species, an updated key to Japanese Aulacidae, and a brief discussion on the conservation aspects of Aulacidae in the Ogasawara Islands are provided.
