Press Release BHILWARA SUR SANGAM 2018 Bhilwara Sur Sangam, a rare initiative on promoting Indian classical music by LNJ Bhilwara Group, enters 7th edition New Delhi, April 22, 2018:One of Delhi’s most prestigious annual classical Indian music shows, Bhilwara Sur Sangam this year saw top artists including Padma Shri Pandit Venkatesh Kumar (Hindustani Classical Vocalist), Pandit Ajay Shankar Prasanna (Flute), Ustad Shujaat Hussain Khan (Sitar), ShriAbhishek Borkar (Sarod), perform and enthrall the audience. Organised every year by LNJ Bhilwara Group, Bhilwara Sur Sangam completed its 7th year this year and like every time left the audience spellbound by the ragas and jugalbandi of artists. This year the Sur Sangam was dedicated to Ganasarswati Kishori Amonkar, who incidentally performed her last stage show in this program in 2017. Shri Ravi Jhunjhunwala, Chairman, LNJ Bhilwara Group, and key architect of this cultural show, said, “Bhilwara Sur Sangam is our modest endeavor to spread the rich heritage of Indian classical music traditions. It is indeed heartening that in its seven years of existence many legendary artists of diverse classical traditions and genres have performed on this platform, and helped us reiterate the pride of our great classical traditions.” Started in 2012, this classical musical fest has over the years featured exceptional and legendary artists including Pt. Jasraj, Pt. Hari Prasad Chaurasia, Ustad Shahid Pravez Khan, Ustad Rashid Khan, Pt. Ulhas Kashalkar, Ustad Shujaat Husain Khan, Gaansaraswati Kishori Amonkar, Dr N Rajam, Pt. Kumar Bose, Pt. Anindo Chatterjee, Pt. Ajoy Chakraborty, Sushri Kaushiki Chakraborty, Dr Ashwani Bhide Deshpande, to name a few. -

This dissertation examines the relationship between these policy concerns in the case of Bangalore and looks deeply into the role of information technology providers in advocating for greater local government financial transparency and accountability through financial management information system projects. -

Raag•Rang Presents A Lecture•Demonstation on the Indian Harmonium By Dr. Kedar Naphade Accompanied By Dr. Amod Dandawate on Tabla Dr. Kedar Naphade received preliminary training in Hindustani Classical Music from his grandfather, Shri Dadasaheb Naphade and from Shri Arvind Gajendragadkar. For over 15 years, he has been a leading disciple of Pt. Tulsidas Borkar, arguably the most acclaimed harmonium player in India today. Kedar has also had the privilege of training from Smt. Padmavati Shaligram•Gokhale, a veteran singer of the Atrauli•Jaipur gharana. She played a pivotal role in his musical development and sowed in him the seed that developed into a passionate love for the vocal art form. As such, like his guru, Kedar's music derives inspiration from the stylistic genius and dexterous wizardry of P. Madhukar as well as the character of the traditional hindustani vocal art form. In addition to classical music, Kedar also plays the semi•classical forms of Marathi Natyasangeet (Stage Music), Bhajans, Thumri, Dhun etc. Kedar has performed harmonium solo and has accompanied vocalists at numerous concerts in India, Europe and in the U.S. including prestigious festivals and venues such as the Alladiya Khan Smruti Samaroha, Dadar Matunga Cultural Center in Mumbai, The Lincoln Center in New York, The Smithsonian Institute in Washington D.C etc. He has also been featured on NPR. He has shared the stage with luminaries such as his guru Smt. Padmavati Shaligram•Gokhale, Pt. Jasraj, Smt. Veena Sahasrabuddhe, Pt. Ulhas Kashalkar, Smt. Prabha Atre, Smt. Laxmi Shankar, Pt. Dr. RANJANI RAMACHANDRAN Hindustani Classical Vocalist, Assistant Professor, Department of Hindusthani Classical Music, Sangit Bhavana, Visva Bharati, Santiniketan Email (Official): [email protected] Dr. Ranjani Ramachandran is a well known khayal vocalist of the Gwalior and Jaipur gharana having trained under eminent gurus including Padmashree Pandit Ulhas Kashalkar, Vidushi Veena Sahasrabuddhe and Pandit Kashinath Bodas. Ranjani also received guidance from Vidushi Girija Devi, acquiring a rich repertoire of Thumri, Dadra, Chaiti and Kajri. She has performed in prestigious platforms in India and abroad. Her research interests include music analysis, archiving and interdisciplinary studies. An ex- scholar of the prestigious ITC Sangeet Research Academy, she is a recipient of many awards including the Charles Wallace Research grant from the UK and has been a long time collaborator with ethnomusicologists at the Durham University in UK. She is currently working as an Assistant professor and teaches vocal music at the Department of Hindustani classical music in Sangit Bhavana at Visva Bharati University, Santiniketan, West Bengal. Ranjani is a Doctorate in vocal music. Her doctoral thesis focused on studying the stylistic diversity within the Gwalior Gharana through analysis of recordings of a few Gwalior Gharana vocalists from the 20th Century.
