Just over a year ago, the news reports showed an area suffering from empty store- fronts and dire economic forecasts. Riverdale Avenue is Back!! It now boasts a great variety of shopping options with more shops on the way and with other businesses moving onto the block. What better time to celebrate it, than the time of year with summer’s promise fast approaching! Be sure to check out the displays our merchants have set up outside their store fronts. Look for special offers and deals! There are also special events at some of the stores, as well as art displays set up by local artists and artisans and street performers providing entertainment. The Bronx Culture Trolley will provide shoppers from other neighborhoods with transportation to the festival, making several stops on Broadway including Santa Fe Restaurant, Ibiza Lounge, and Citibank, which has graciously provided funding for the Trolley. Please check out this booklet, produced by the Kingsbridge-Riverdale-Van Cortlandt Development Corporation/KRVC, for the schedule of events, performances and activities. This booklet also contains the Trolley schedule and a full listing of all the businesses in the South Riverdale Avenue shopping and commercial area. Finally, this booklet acknowledges the contributions of the many supporters of this festival listed on the page opposite this one. This event would not have been possible without their support. SRAMA especially thanks Bronx Community Board 8 for the instrumental role the board played in the formation of the Association and in the planning of this event. In addition, Exclusive Properties Sotheby’s International Realty has played an enormous role in the formation of SRAMA, the rebirth of the Avenue and this festival. Enjoy! The Riverdale Art Association was created in 1999, by a small group of artists for the purpose of exhibiting, selling their work and sharing information about art in all its forms. While the founders of RAA met in their homes and became exposed to each others' artistic talents, the members now meet at 7:00 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month at the Atria just south of the Monument on Henry Hudson Parkway East. Meetings now include presentations by local art- ists, peer review of work in progress and general animated discussion. RAA cor- dially welcomes the community to all meetings. Artists and those interested in art from Riverdale and its surrounding area are invited to join the RAA and start enjoying all the benefits the Association brings. RAA has several group exhibits each year at various venues including the Bronx Borough President’s Office, The College of Mount St. Vincent, Manhattan College, The Riverdale Yonkers Society for Ethical Culture, Bronxville, Eastchester, Riverdale Libraries and at the Riverdale Y. It features a colorful array of flow- ers, buildings, animals, abstract art and more created by children in kindergarten through 5th grade. We are also presenting artwork from Students in last Fall's Arts to Grow program at Riverdale Neighbor- hood House (RNH). Arts to Grow, a not-for-profit organization with the mission of providing art pro- grams to underserved urban youth ages 5-22, has collaborated with Riverdale Neighborhood House since 2006.
