“I care for...Europe” - Tarcento – Villanova delle Grotte Tarcento, a city 20 km far from north to Udine, located in a very interesting landscape, surrounded by morainic hills and in the middle of city goes the Torre stream. On the north the view is closed by the Prealpi Giulie (Julian Prealps). Tarcento was known as “the Friuli Pearl” because of its liberty villas and its beautiful walks, but was very devasted by the earthquake in 1976; the reconstruction could save the smallest part of the original old town. In the north of Tarcento it is the village “Villanova Caves”, municipality of Lusevera, in the middle of Julian Prealps; it is known for the “New Cave” gallery, which was discovered on 1925 and which gives the opportunity to know in depth of the local karst phenomenology. 27 – 04 SEPTEMBER Camp Structure and Activities The provided activities are about: - “Active citizenship” actions: working activities - Other events: workshops – public conference – sightseeing of surroundings Active citizenship actions - working activities – Villanova caves area: garbage collection and cutting bushes in collaboration with volunteers of the GELGV association – Bernadia Mountain: cutting bushes and garbage collection in the Bernadia Fort area, according to the instructions of the association “Knowledge and Protection of the Environment of Friuli” Other events – 3 workshops about the basic principles of participatory democracy, sustainable development and environmental law; – Final public conference “I Care for Europe” with presentation of all camps activities and final round table about European citizenship. – Mapping about local natural and cultural values and accessibility to sustainable tourism services. – Sightseeing of Nature Park Julian Prealps, Aquileia and Cividale del Friuli cities (UNESCO World heritages), Villanova caves. Accomodation Participants will live at base camp in a public hostel of the Municipality of Lusevera in the village “Villanova Caves”; it has parking places, several rooms and sharing bathrooms; most of meals and cleaning work will be done all together. Costs The Camp is co-funded by contributes of Volunteers; the fee is fixed at 250,00 €: costs of accommodation, food, local transports, expenditures of organization and insurance are included in the fee. The arrival to Tarcento is at participant’s expense and we will help to reduce its cost by car-sharing or public transport. Documents It is sufficient identification card or personal passport to enter into Italy from EU and almost all European Countries not EU. For the minors, who could come without parents, it will be necessary to prepare some documents which will be sent at the arrival of their registration form. Times devoted to sightseeing of local natural and cultural values -Julian Prealps Nature Park: the regional Park was founded on 1996 and it is about 100kmq, included in the Municipalities of Chiusaforte, Lusevera, Moggio Udinese, Resia, Resiutta and Venzone, all in Udine Province. The main characteristic of the Park is an extraordinary biodiversity thanks to the contact of mediterranean, illyrian and alpine "biogeographic" areas. There are more than 1200 flowers species within almost sixty are endemic; furthermore as animal the Park is also very rich: among all are present also bears and lynxes. The integrity of this area is the base for the request to participate in the UNESCO MAB "Man and the Biosphere" Program. Sella Carnizza (photo:Marco Di Lenardo) -Aquileia: it was founded by Romans on the year 181 b.C., on the righ bank of Natisone river and it became outpost to protect the territory and to expand Roman Empire in North-East direction; during Augustus era became the capital of Venetia and Histria Provinces and one of the most important towm of the Roman Empire. In the Archaeological Museum are lot of very precious signs, jewels, glasses and traces which shows its high artistic and cultural level. It is "Unesco World Heritage" from 1998. -Cividale del Friuli: It was founded by Romans and named "Forum Iulii" during their expansiont to the Alp regions and to the East: it was built on a natural "terrace" on the Natisone river, in a place between the plan and the Alps, where during the protohistory there were just some human settlements. It became very important during the Longobard Kingdom and is part of serial sites of "Longobards in Italy. (photo:Itineraria) -Villanova Caves: The caves system is open to public visit from the entrance near the village of Villanova to the so-called "New Cave" which was discovered on 1925; it is the biggest "contact cave" known in Europe and open to the public visit; the most impressive and most interesting part of the whole cave is the New Cave because it is developed inside a water resistant and not soluble rock.
