The Great North Run is the most iconic North East half marathon with thousands of runners supporting charities This special newsletter is an urgent call out for people attending the Great North Run to get involved by giving the runners encouragement So if you are going to attend then lend a hand – or more importantly your VOICE Wave a flag or give a cheer – just let the runners know your here! BRITISH RED CROSS We are expecting a team of 100 runners to take part in this iconic half marathon for British Cross and we need you to come help us make their day extra special! Our team of runners are fundraising for Red Cross and we hope to raise £90,000 to support our work. Are you cheerful, enthusiastic and looking to be part of the buzz of this event? If so this is the volunteer role for you. Volunteer roles would involve joining us at our cheer or point helping our runners to power through those miles or welcoming them back at our Charity tent after the race. You’d be joining the Events team for one of the highlights of the fundraising calendar. If you are interested please contact Julia by email [email protected] or on 0344 412 2877 SCOPE #TeamScope – Event Day Volunteer Key skills you'll gain · Experience in events logistics · Experience as part of a fundraising team Why we need you The streets of Newcastle will once again come alive on Sunday 8 September in the 2019 Great North Run. We're creating the ultimate cheering team and are looking for enthusiastic, friendly and outgoing people to join us at our cheerpoint. Your role will help boost our fantastic runners on to the finish line and make them feel super proud of what an amazing thing they’re doing for disabled people and their families. We’ll have music, banners, flags and you’ll get a free Scope t-shirt. Mile 8 in Simonside, South Shields (near Bede Metro Station) Sunday 8 September 2019, 11.30am – 3pm (approximate timings) It would be fantastic if you’re able to volunteer for the full shift, but if you can’t then we’d be grateful for any time you’re able to give. How we will support you We will ensure you have sufficient travel plans to and from the event, as well as some information about the event logistics and what we'd like you to do. On the day, we will be on hand to support you, answer any questions and ensure you are getting the most from your day out. What we are looking for We're looking for volunteers who are enthusiastic, friendly and ready to be the loudest and proudest cheerers on the course! No experience necessary. [email protected] 020 7619 7270 DIABETES UK We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to support us in with cheering our amazing team of 550 runners along at the Great North Run on 8th September. Our cheer points are: - At mile 3.6 which is on Abbotsford Road, NE10 OEU and we need cheers from 10.30am to 1pm. - At mile 10.5 which is on Prince Edward Road, NE34 5QT and we need cheerers from 11.30am to 3pm (by the finish line). This is a fun day out with an amazing festival atmosphere. This is one off and very flexible – if you can give 2 hours, great, if you would like to stay for longer – amazing! There is no previous experience needed and volunteers need only bring themselves, their loudest cheering voice and their enthusiasm. Our minimum age is 18. With hundreds of lifesaving runners taking part in this world famous half marathon, our #TeamAN runners need all the support and motivation they can get to reach the finish line. We have a reputation for being some of the loudest and proudest cheerers on the course, so the louder you are the better! Anthony Nolan is the charity that makes lifesaving connections between people with blood cancer and incredible strangers ready to donate their stem cells. We’re saving lives right now. Three lives a day, in fact. But we can’t do it without you. Without you, there is no cure. With your support we can give #TeamAN a fantastic race day experience. You will receive your own Anthony Nolan t-shirt to wear on the day and other fun cheering goodies! We will have cheer squads at two locations along the half marathon course on Sunday 8th September 2019. You can be based at either mile 4 (near Heworth Roundabout) or mile 8 (close to Bede Metro station). We would need you to be available between 10.30am and 2.30pm, or for as long as you’re able to stay and cheer with us. Join our Great North Run volunteer team on Sunday 8th September 2019 and unite with our runners in the fight against dementia! You'll be cheering runners aboard the top deck of our cheer bus as they take on the famous Great North Run! Just for a few hours! We're flexible and any time you can give really will help. By cheering on our team from our cheer bus you will play a vital role on the day and will be supporting the amazing work our team of runners are doing for Alzheimer’s Society, and for all those that are affected by dementia. This is a great opportunity to meet new people, have fun and help maximise the fundraising from our runners in the fight against dementia. We have over 500 amazing participants running between Newcastle upon Tyne and South Shields. Come join us in cheering on our runners and make it a day to remember for our runners! However, please be aware roads will be closed so plan your route in advance. If you arrive early enough, parking will be available next to the Little Chef, just off the roundabout although you will not be able to exit from here until the roads reopen. Ensure you arrive at your cheering location between 9.30 am – 10.00 am Note: This section of the route closes at 9:45am when the bus will pull into position.
