Göteborgsvarvet Half Marathon MEDIA GUIDE 2016 Updated 2016-05-20 GöteborgsVarvet Half Marathon MEDIA GUIDE 2016 A world-class racing event promoting a healthy lifestyle and offering a great atmosphere A sustainable event with many things happening GöteborgsVarvet Half Marathon has chosen to invest in sustainability. The event has received a diplomas for our hard work towards sustainability, been recognized at an awards ceremony of AIMS Green Award 2013 and currently working to receive the international standard ISO-20121, for a sustainable event. Key elements in our work towards sustainability is social engagement, economy, and environment. As a major organizer, we want to be a role model in setting standards and routines that contri- bute to healthy lifestyles for individuals and the society as a whole. Aside from being proud of all the participants in the race I am extra proud of the organization ”HEJA Göteborg” that has running school programs for children in different parts of Gothenburg with our goal to expand the program to other areas. Runners participating in the races are contributing to various athletic clubs, with all the surplus from the races going direct to the athletic clubs and associations. Participants can even contribute to our sus- tainable efforts by recycling all waste, choosing one of the vegetarian alternatives offered in the race area and by choosing the most envi- ronmentally friendly form of transportation to and from the race. All of our 4000 volunteers and race officials will receive vegetarian food. A new addition for this year is that all of the participants can travel via public transportation two extra days during the week of the race. From 19-21 May your confirmation of registration or race bib can be used as valid tickets on all public transportation in Gothenburg. Other exciting news for this year is our focus on the expansion of the GöteborgsVarvet Expo, which is now located at the Swedish Exhibi- tion and Congress Centre in the center of Gothenburg. In addition to all of the exhibitors offering a wide selection of products in sport and fitness there will also be speakers and other activities for the whole family. The Expo is also where the runner will pick up their race bib. The exhibition is open from Thursday to Sunday. I am also proud that this year we have invested more time in deve- loping what we have to offer for the junior runners. On the 21 May, at the same time as the half marathon starts, the premiere for the CityVarvet, a new race for teenagers will start at Götaplatsen. On Sunday we will have a large activity center, Lilla Varvet Fun Zone at Frölundaborg, for the younger children with lots of energy. I look forward to an exciting race. There’s potential for a new record to be set again even this year. On both the men and women’s side there are some well-known international names on the starting line and the top Swedes will be competing for medals in the Swedish Championships in the half marathon. The first race to kick off the week of the GöteborgVarvet Half Marathon is the premier of the TrailVarvet on Tuesday 17 May - a hilly and beautiful 10k in Änggårdsbergen. April 15, 2019 Dear Members of the Media, On behalf of the Boston Athletic Association, principal sponsor John Hancock, and all of our sponsors and supporters, we welcome you to the City of Boston and the 123rd running of the Boston Marathon. As the oldest annually contested marathon in the world, the Boston Marathon represents more than a 26.2-mile footrace. The roads from Hopkinton to Boston have served as a beacon for well over a century, bringing those from all backgrounds together to celebrate the pursuit of athletic excellence. From our early beginnings in 1897 through this year’s 123rd running, the Boston Marathon has been an annual tradition that is on full display every April near and far. We hope that all will be able to savor the spirit of the Boston Marathon, regardless whether you are an athlete or volunteer, spectator or member of the media. Race week will surely not disappoint. The race towards Boylston Street will continue to showcase some of the world’s best athletes. Fronting the charge on Marathon Monday will be a quartet of defending champions who persevered through some of the harshest weather conditions in race history twelve months ago. Desiree Linden, the determined and resilient American who snapped a 33-year USA winless streak in the women’s open division, returns with hopes of keeping her crown. Linden has said that last year’s race was the culmination of more than a decade of trying to tame the beast of Boston – a race course that rewards those who are both patient and daring.
