Further instructions/protocol for the virtual meet will be given on July 1st.

End of Season Banquet: Sunday July 25th (exact time TBD) at Summer Hill Pool Practices: Practices groups will be determined by the # of registered swimmers as of May 31st. The reason is due to the 2021 CMSL Covid Policy (attached at end of this info packet) that require 5 swimmers per lane for practice for a 25-yard pool. We cannot pre-determine the timeslots for the swimmers ahead of time like previous years due to the limitation guidelines provided by CMSL. You will be informed on June 1st which of the 3 timeslots your swimmer will be assigned to once the coaches know who will be joining the team this season. Thank you for your understanding. Tues/Thurs Evening Practices are intended for those swimmers that cannot make morning practice; every attempt should be made to attend morning practice.

Division: This year we will compete in Division VI of the Central Maryland Swim League. Joining us in Division VI will be Atholton, Freedom Crofton Village, and Springdale swim teams. This year, we will be swimming VIRTUAL Dual-Meets (2) & a Tri-Meet (1). For more information about the league, check out the CMSL website (https://www.teamunify.com/Home.jsp?team=reccmsl).

Swim Team On-Line Registration: Official registration will be done on-line via Jot Forms to sign up your swimmer. Additional forms will be required: Code of Conduct, Photo Release Waiver, etc. https://form.jotform.com/211153957325152

To be a member of the swim team: 1) All swimmers must be able to swim one length of the pool without assistance to participate 2) Summer Hill Swim Team on-line registration form(s) must be completed 3) Family must be a member in good standing of the Summer Hill Pool 4) Parents are required to sign up as a volunteer for the virtual home meets (min 2 assignments per child). All steps are required before swimmers can begin practicing or competing in meets. The swim team participation fee this year is $100 per swimmer for the season. There is a maximum charge of $250 per family. All 15 and older swimmers are required to pay only $20 to cover the AAU fee as a thank you for your previous years of commitment to the team. The fees for swimmers include team league dues, special insurance required by the league, ribbons, equipment, coaches, end of the year dinner, pancake , officials, CMSL dues and computer programs, etc. Fees are not refundable.

Checks should be made payable to Summer Hill Swim Team and sent to: Heidi Bowen 13805 Summer Hill Drive, Phoenix, MD 21131

Virtual Home Meets: All meets will be virtual. Please review the 2021 CMSL Covid Policy (attached at end of info packet) for more information. Separate protocol/instructions will be provided on July 1st.

Meet Lineup: Lineups are completed on Thursday prior to the meet. The coaches will make every effort to allow swimmers to swim the strokes they request. However, this is a team sport and coaches will need to place swimmers where needed to meet the needs of the team. Lineups are very challenging. A lot of thought and effort goes into making the lineups competitive. Swimmers are allowed to swim a max of 3 individual events + a relay or 4 individual events with no relay in any swim meet.

Volunteers: Swim team is a family commitment. Volunteering at swim meets is mandatory! It takes many volunteers to make the team and the swim meets run smoothly. When you register your child for swim team, you must also choose your home-virtual volunteer assignments. Parents are required to volunteer for at least two (2) assignments per swimmer due to Covid (in a normal summer season, the volunteer requirement is 3 assignments per swimmer) during the swim meet season. There is no experience required, except if you’ll be running the computer to enter the times during the meet or if you are interested in being a Stroke & Turn judge. Please be prepared to sign up for your volunteer commitment (via Signup Genius). Swim Meet volunteer jobs include but are not limited to: Timers/Back up Timer, Card Runners, Stroke & Turn Judges (training required), Clerk of Course, Table worker, Heat Winner Prize distributor, Concession, Announcer, Computer (training required), Setup/Teardown, etc.

We are also in need of another set of volunteers to Lead and Organize additional swim team activities/events, including the Donuts & Decoration breakfast (7/9), End of Season team Banquet (7/25), and the Pancake Breakfast (TBD). If you are interested in leading with any of these events, please contact [email protected]. If you volunteer to LEAD these events, this will count towards one (1) of your mandatory swim-meet volunteer requirements.

Swim Big & Little Program (Leader: Mairin Ludwig): To continue to strengthen our great Stingray community, we will be pairing older swimmers (Big – 13 to 18yo) with younger swimmers (Little – 12 & Under) to help build community across the various age groups. It’s wonderful to have friendships with swimmers similar in age, but it’s also wonderful to have relationships with other swimmers across all ages. The Bigs will provide support to their Littles to promote team comradery, confidence, self-esteem, and trust to make positive impact in and out of the pool.

Swim Team Suits: Since the swim meets are virtual this year, we will not require anyone to purchase a team suit. Any one-piece (female) or jammer/brief (male) competition suit is acceptable. Swimmer may use the competition suit for practices during the 2021 season.

Team Photo: This year we will have Irvin Simon Photography come to our pool to take a team photo and while they are here, they will also take individual shots of your child/children. They always look great and it is a nice way to start off the season so please try to make it to the team photo! Team photo will be on Wednesday June 30th at 9.00am.

Swim Lessons: Swim Team should not take the place of swim lessons. We offer lessons specifically designed to help our Stingrays. Please see one of the coaches directly if you are interested in swim lessons for your child. Individual lessons are offered at $15 per half-hour.

Swimming is a skill: Swimming is a skill and not a game. For that reason, practice is a very important part of perfecting those skills. Daily attendance is strongly encouraged. All swimmers must be able to swim one length of the pool without assistance to participate on the Summer Hill Swim Team. If a coach feels a child is not safely able to participate on the swim team, we will ask for that child to obtain lessons and participate later in the season. Children may join the team throughout the season once AAU registration is complete.

Safety: Children must listen and follow the coaches’ instructions. If a coach feels a child’s safety is in jeopardy, the child will be removed from the water. At no time during practices, should there be pushing or shoving into the pool. Any swimmer under 13 is REQUIRED to have a parent present at the full duration of the practice(s).

Because there are no lifeguards on duty during swim practice, the pool is closed to the general membership. ONLY swim team members are allowed in the water when it is their scheduled practice time under the Coaches’ supervision. Siblings of swim team members not practicing, or siblings not registered as a swim team member, but are at pool during practice hours, are not permitted in the water, including the baby pool, until a lifeguard is on duty.

Communication: There will be a file folder for each team family on the table outside the locker rooms. Check these and your email account for information from the coaches or to leave the coaches a note. Awards, notices and ribbons from each meet will be placed in your file so please check regularly. The swim team email (monitored by team manager) is [email protected]. We are also be sending communications through Team Snap. Signing up your swimmer for swim meets will be done through this tool, please make an account if you do not have one already.

Vacations: The lineup for each week’s meet is done on the Thursday before the meet. According to league rules, we are bound by our lineup, so it is nearly impossible to shift things around on Saturday morning. Please take a minute before the season starts to see which meets you will not be able to attend and be sure to indicate those dates on the Team Snap website. Please do not verbally tell or email a coach or team manager. Swimmers will be included in the lineup for each meet unless Team Snap log indicates the swimmer is not available to swim. If you are in the lineup and are unable to attend due to illness or other emergency, please try to notify the coaches Saturday morning prior to 7am so that spot can be given to a child who is participating, and we don’t scratch their entry.

Team Manager Contact: For additional information, please call or text the Team Manager, D’Jeanne Yerrick 484-686-7767 or via email at [email protected], as she will be monitoring the email account frequently.

Coaches: Head Coach – Catherine Waite (7/8 Age Group and 13&Over) Sr Coach – Mason Roth (9/10 and 11/12 Age Groups) Jr Coach – Mairin Ludwig (6&Under Age Group and Big/Little Leader)
