Cultural Informations
CULTURAL INFORMATIONS DREŽNIK GRAD The old town Drežnik is the fortress which is situated on the edge of the village Drežnik Grad, municipality of Rakovica, County of Karlovac in Central Croatia. Historical happenings in this area are mostly connected with constant warfare concerning borders and defense from conquerors' incursions, which is why the area had not developed as a market town or a settlement, but rather as a defensive fort, especially Drežnik Grad (Drežnik Castle). This area used to be the seat of the one-time County of Drežnik which was first mentioned in the 11th century. Drežnik frotress (Drežnik Castle) was an integral part of a chain of fortifications to defend against the Turks and Drežnik fortress was repeatedly conquered, ruined and rebuilt. The fortress is located on a cliff above a steep canyon of the river Korana which arose from Plitvice lakes and abruptly turns eastward and forms the present-day border with Bosnia and Herzegovina. Old town Drežnik - made of irregular rectangular shape, stone walls, two square towers and one round tower which is located on the north side of fortress. Until recently, it was almost entirely in ruins. Now, the round tower is completely walled in, while some parts of ruined fortress rising (sticking) from the bushes. PLITVICE LAKES NATIONAL PARK ( www.np-plitvicka-jezera.hr) Croatia's first National park established in 1949 covers 296.85 km2 of breathtaking natural splendor becoming with it the largest among the eight national parks of the country. The park was inscribed on the UNESCO's World Heritage List in 1979, in recognition of its "outstanding natural beauty and undisturbed production of travertine (tufa) through chemical and biological action". -

52 stranice, 12 grafičkih priloga, 11 tablica, 41 bibliografska referenca; izvornik na hrvatskom jeziku Ključne riječi: Historijsko-geografski razvoj, Kordun, Vojna krajina, Domovinski rat Voditelj: Doc. dr. sc. AQUATIKA GUIDE the Story with the River
AQUATIKA GUIDE The story with the river AQUATIKA – FRESHWATER AQUARIUM KARLOVAC is located on the right bank of the Korana river, which comes from Plitvice lakes. The Korana flows into the Kupa in Karlovac, the Kupa flows into the Sava, the Sava into the Danube, and the Danube into the Black Sea. Besides the Black Sea (Danube) basin, some of our rivers flow into the Adriatic Sea and therefore belong to the Adriatic basin. Image 2. The rivers Kupa, Korana, Mrežnica and Dobra meet in Karlovac. THE HOMEMADE TEXTILE Craff INRASTOKE NEAR SLUNJ
Nar. umjel. 28, 1991, sIr. 269-293, A. Muraj, Kucno leksli/no umijet:e u s/unjskim ... THE HOMEMADE TEXTILE CRAFf IN RASTOKE NEAR SLUNJ SUMMARY Home production of textiles was an integral part of the cultural tradition of the inhabitants of the village of Rastoke in times past. Rastoke is located below the Kordun town of Slunj. in central Croatia. Both settlements occupy unusual positions on the very mouth, the delta, of the Slunjcica where it flows into the Korana River. These positions enabled the inhabitants to engage in milling, and with activities complementary to milling. such as rolling of cloth. At the end of the Second World War production of homespun textiles ceased. At the beginning of the Sixties, and particularly in the year 1969, the author carried out field research into this activity. The results of her research, augmented by data from other sources, is published in this paper. The technological and ergological aspects of the entire complex is described. Details are given on primary processing of the textile yarns form linen and hemp (by soaking, removal of woody remnants, and combing), as well as preparation of wool (by cleaning and combing out). This is followed by a description of spinning. bleaching and rewinding of the textile thread. as the preparatory phase of weaving. By use of basic and decorative weaving techniques and a combination of materials, mention is made of the entire range of textile goods which were produced, both by weaving and knitting. Woollen products from Rastoke were also submitted to an additional process in the so-called wet process, to make them more compact. -

Rakovica Municipality
RAKOVICA MUNICIPALITY “Rakovica municipality borders with the National park Plitvice Lakes and has high ecology awareness standards. Regarding the geographical position (mountain region of Croatia with strong and cold winters) efficiency in energy use, especially in space heating, is the top of priority. The MODEL Project is recognized as a delightful opportunity to raise local energy standards and energy efficiency awareness (less financial commitment) through new levels of education and support as a pre-phase for EE project organisation and implementation. Of course, it could and will be a strong pylon to give us directions for future energy plans in the municipality and even in a broader sense.” Mr. Franjo Franjkovic, Mayor of Rakovica municipality www.rakovica.hr Welcome to Rakovica ! Welcome to Rakovica , the continental destination rich in beautiful landscapes and speleological structures, which is situated in the southern part of Karlovac Region, on the half way from Zagreb to the Adriatic Sea. As the city it has been known since the middle Ages. This area was later destroyed by Turkish conquest, but the great change for the better in Rakovica began when the Liberating War against Turkish occupation started. This happened at the end of the 17th century. When finally Turks were banished out of this area, new historical development of Rakovica, as a new founded city, began. That new city was frontier region with Turkish Bosnia, which meant it was a military commune, where citizens had a military obligation to serve on the frontier line. Inhabitants lived mostly of farming, cattle - breeding, retailing, traffic and military salaries.
