Sport, Made Light the Rules Have Changed, the Essence Hasn’T The Redline Magazine 3|2016 SPORT, MADE LIGHT THE RULES HAVE CHANGED, THE ESSENCE HASN’T. THE NEW CONCEPT OF SPORT ACCORDING TO DUCATI WELCOME TO DUCATI DUCATISTI FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD CELEBRATE 90 YEARS OF HISTORY TOGETHER The 90th anniversary year has brought many great satisfactions, from the sales results to the success of the World Ducati Week which surpassed all expectations, and a return to victory in the MotoGP. We have celebrated in lots of different ways: the complete refurbishment of the Ducati Museum, the round-the-world journey with the Multistrada 1200 Enduro touching on symbolic places in our history and a photo-book celebrating the style of our motorcycles. Ducati is continuing to grow – both in the hearts of our fans and in the increased product range. Such growth wouldn’t have been so substantial without the participation of all the Ducatisti, including the company employees, the competitors on the racetracks and our customers and fans all over the world These are people who represent our brand with pride and enthusiasm and who, each in their own different way, contribute to the attainment of a common goal. It’s thanks to them that Ducati is so popular today and we wanted to celebrate this important anniversary together with them. Ducati 330 SX Passion beyond the borders. www.alpensrl.com 3 The anniversary celebrations also bring to mind the people transmission brought the company the technical impetus Brothers Bruno, Adriano and Marcello Cavalieri Ducati, founders of who have become symbols of the company over these first it needed to develop increasingly sophisticated products. the “Società Scientifica Radio Brevetti Ducati” company in 1926. 90 years, and without whom Ducati wouldn’t have become The company’s initial growth was pretty rapid but it’s the company it is today. First and foremost the founders improbable that anybody at the time would have thought - brothers Bruno, Adriano and Marcello Cavalieri Ducati. that such a small company which worked in the fields They founded the company under the name of “Società of electronics, optics and mechanics, would have been Scientifica Radio Brevetti Ducati” in 1926. The passion transformed into one of the most famous and winning and research of Adriano in the field of physics and radio motorcycle producers in the whole world. 4 5 On the subject of winning, the memory of our return to victory in the MotoGP thanks to the double at the Zeltweg racetrack in Austria with Andrea Iannone and Andrea Dovizioso taking first and second place is a remarkable one. It was an intense, deserved and gratifying moment which demonstrated the effort and commitment made by everyone at Ducati Corse in order that our motorcycles and our riders are on a par with the best riders in the world. In Austria we were able to show our potential, putting all the hard work and effort made at Ducati Corse to go use. This result was obtained thanks to the commitment of the whole team, who are continuing to work hard to carry on in this direction. The Ducati Corse racing team celebrates Andrea Iannone and Andrea Dovizioso, first and second on the podium at Zeltweg. 6 7 Back to the 90th anniversary celebrations, we decided to mark this ninety year landmark at the World Ducati Week, together with the community of Ducatisti. Three unforgettable days, thanks to the fans who swarmed to the Misano racetrack, the dozens of initiatives and the presence of the current and past riders who have made the history of our brand so great. The World Ducati Week is an event that has reached remarkable proportions, both in terms of the number of attendees and for the wealth of contents. Thanks to the event Ducatisti from all over the world have the opportunity to set their enthusiasm free, unlock their passion and grow their sense of belonging. A special atmosphere pervaded the busy programme which got all the attendees involved, whether in the paddock, on the track or beyond the racetrack, from early morning until late at night. There were a great many exciting and moving moments but what made the 2016 WDW so special and unforgettable were perhaps the smiles, expressions of the people who celebrated with us at this magnificent Ducati party. Next on the agenda is the Milan motorcycle exhibition with a preview of the new models for 2017 and work will commence for the coming year with all that we have in store for our fans. Thank you everyone. Viva Ducati, viva the Ducatisti. The new layout includes iconic motorcycles that have contexts within which they were developed. 20 production motorcycles are on display, divided between four different rooms; made the Ducati story what it is; they are presented at the museum together with a series of artistic installations inspired by 17 of them have never been displayed before. 16 17 THE NEW MUSEUM LIST OF THE MOTORCYCLES ON DISPLAY: Cucciolo 1946, 1946 - Ducati 60, 1949 - Cucciolo Competizione, 1950 - 851 SBK 1990, 1990 - 888 SBK 1991, 1991 - 900 Superlight, 1992 - 888 SBK1992, 1992 - 900 Monster, 1993 - Supermono, 1993 Ducati 125 Sport, 1956 - Ducati Gran Sport 125 “ Marianna “, 1956 - Siluro, 1956 - Ducati 175 T, 1957 - Ducati 175 F3, 957 - - 916, 1994 - 916 SBK 1994, 1994 - 916 SBK 1996, 1996 - 996 Imola 2001 Bayliss, 2001 - 999 Neil Hodgson, 2003 - Desmosedici Ducati 125 Desmo, 1959 - Ducati 250 Bicilindrico Desmo, 1960 - Scambler 450, 1971 - 750 GT, 1971 - 500 GP, 1971 - 750 Imola MotoGP 2003, 2003 - Desmosedici RR, 2006 - Desmosedici MotoGP 2007 Stoner, 2007 - 1098 R Bayliss Portimao, 2008 - 1098, 1972, 1972 - 750 SS Desmo 1975 Franco Uncini, 1975 - 900 TT 1978 Mike Hailwood, 1978 - 500 Pantah, 1979 - 600 TT2, 1980 - 2009 - Desmosedici MotoGP 2010 Stoner, 2010 - 1198 Carlos Checa, 2011 - Superleggera, 2014 - Scrambler 800 Icon, 2015 - 750 F1, 1986 - Paso 750, 1986 - 750 F1 Marco Lucchinelli BOT 1986, 1986 - 851 Tricolore, 1988 - Cagiva Elefant Parigi Dakar, 1990 - Multistrada 1200, 2010 - 2012 18 19 THE NEW MUSEUM Ducati’s 90th anniversary will also be celebrated with the publication of a photo book which illustrates the Ducati story via the bikes that have made it such a huge success. PRESS INFORMATION MICHELIN COMBAT THE ARAGÓN HEAT AS MARQUEZ TRIUMPHS Michelin witnessed its range of MotoGP™ tyres produce a strong performance during today’s Gran Premio Movistar de Aragón from the MotorLand Aragón circuit in Spain as the heat rose on raceday before Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda) took victory. Temperatures soared to their highest point of the weekend as the riders lined up on the grid, causing many teams to make last minute changes to their chosen selection of MICHELIN Power Slicks, in readiness to combat the heat. As the race began the track thermometer was reading 45°C - higher than it has ever been at the Aragón circuit for a MotoGP event - and following all the changes, five of the six tyre compounds were now featured in different combinations throughout the field. Jorge Lorenzo (Ducati Team) was on pole after an exciting qualifying session on Saturday, which saw him take the first grid spot in the very last moment of the session, unfortunately for the Spaniard his race was short-lived as he crashed out on the first corner. This immediately handed the lead to his team-mate Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team), a position he held for the next 13-laps, before coming under pressure from Marquez. The pair then duelled out the remaining 10-laps of the 23-lap race, with the lead frequently changing hands as they pushed the Michelin tyres to the limit on a track that now had diminished grip levels due to the increased heat. Marquez was using a hard front and soft rear pairing, whilst Dovizioso had gone for a hard/hard combination and the two battled it out for the final laps as the characteristics of their respective bikes gave them the opportunity to use different tyres, but still extract maximum performance.
