Thank you. Senator Tariq Azeem Khan: Mr. Chairman, thank you very much for giving me the time. Law and Order situation in the country is not hidden from anybody sir, everybody in this House is quite aware about the deteriorating situation that is prevailing in the country at the moment. Unfortunately, no adequate steps are being taken by the government although we do read and hear a lot rhetoric yet very little action has been taken, especially the situation that is prevailing in , the target killing that is going on and it is almost non-stop. This is something that does make us worry a lot because Karachi being a Hub at the moment of the economic activity in the country. Specially the economic activity that is at the moment, in the country, has seen a downward fall.Our business community in Karachi and otherwise in the rest of the country also faces the same situation and this situation canãt be allowed to continue as it is.

So, would you please be kind enough if you could request somebody if he could request the Interior Minister to be present as well, to at least listen to the speeches that have been made and will be made by the members of this House. We have seen a downward movement of foreign direct investment, that almost has died down to nil. In fact, foreign investors are worried even visiting Pakistan. As you are quite aware Mr. Chairman, even the meetings for having an investment in Pakistan, are now taking place in Dubai and elsewhere. People are not even prepared to travel to Pakistan because of the law and order situation. Therefore, it is imperative that an immediate action is taken. We would like to hear from the Interior Minister and the rest of the Government, exactly what steps are being taken to rectify the situation. Sir, I referred in my earlier address that situation especially in Karachi is getting worse by the day. The target killing that I mentioned, worries not only Karachites but also the rest of the country. We have witnessed similar situation in other parts even in the Punjab, the people have come to such a stage where they have now resorted to taking law into their own hands. The situation

7 we saw in Sialkot and Gujranwala is a warning to all of us that if the situation is not corrected, the people will take law into their own hands which will further worsen the situation.
