Riunione pre- viaggio e pernottamento. 2° giorno: 26 settembre 2021 Pallanza – Villa Taranto – Stresa (escursione in barca all’Isola Bella) - Orta San Giulio km 40 In mattinata raggiungiamo Villa Taranto, una vera e propria opera d’arte con migliaia di piante e fiori provenienti da ogni parte del mondo. Ingresso e visita guidata. A seguire raggiungiamo Stresa dove ci imbarchiamo per un’escursione di 2 ore circa sul Lago Maggiore che permetterà di visitare l’Isola Bella. Ingresso al Palazzo Borromeo. McEwen Professor of Music & Lauralyn Kolb, Lecturer in Music (Voice) © Megan Mallen © Markus Bernet Dear Hamilton Alumni, Parents, and Friends, I invite you to discover areas “off-the-beaten” path in northern Italy on this remarkable and exclusive Hamilton Global Adventure. Those of us who sing will rehearse twice and then perform three concerts and participate in two masses. The trip also features wonderful guided excursions, including walks in historic villages with medieval houses and charming alleys, viewing magnificent art and architecture, and many exceptional culinary experiences. To top it off, our travels will take place amid spectacular landscapes, with two beautiful Italian lakes (Orta and Maggiore) and backdrops such as rolling hills of vineyards and the snow-capped Italian Alps. Our group will enjoy all excursions and included meals together, but you may choose to upgrade from comfortable, 3-star hotels to more luxurious 4-star hotels if you wish.     Chronique N° 46 « Estivale » Une des affiches du Film « Au nom de la Rose » La Sacra di San Michele Nous sommes nombreux à avoir vu ce film, traitant de « problèmes » de religion et de sorcellerie au Moyen-Âge, tiré du roman de Roberto Eco. Depuis longtemps je voulais me rendre à ce monastère bénédictin si mystérieux et si désolé où les « copistes » vivaient dans des conditions « particulières » au point de se retrouver entre les mains de l’Inquisition. Cette abbaye, selon le générique, devait se situer dans la région de Suse en Italie, peu éloignée de la frontière française en passant par le col du Mont Cenis si fréquenté dans les siècles passés : Hannibal et Bonaparte, par exemple… De plus j’avais évoqué dans deux chroniques précédentes (la N°2) la « route de l’Ange » et, précisé, dans la N° 15 page 5) traitant de Civitate, en parlant du pape : « Il s’installe au pied du Monte Gargano, sur le chemin du pèlerinage officiel de l’Archange, (via Francigena) ». En effet cette voie, qualifiée de « française », reliait le Mont Saint Michel au Monte Gargano et, en son milieu, se situait « La Sacra di San Michele » étape bénie après le franchissement du col. Les Français, mais surtout les Normands, ne pouvaient manquer de la fréquenter… Profitant de quelques jours dans la région de Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne, la tentation fut si opportune que j’emmenais la famille dans ce pèlerinage de curiosité ! Une première observation remarquable réside dans l’alignement parfait de cinq édifices majeurs dédiés à l’Archange. Du Sud vers le Nord nous relevons : Monte Sant’Angelo (Pouilles), Sacra di San Michele (Piémont), Mont Saint Michel (Normandie), The St Michael’s Mount (Cornouailles England) et Skellig Michael (sur une île au sud-ouest de l’Irlande).

    religions Article Þingeyrar Abbey in Northern Iceland: A Benedictine Powerhouse of Cultural Heritage Gottskálk Jensson Department of Nordic Studies and Linguistics, University of Copenhagen, Njalsgade 136, 2300 Copenhagen, Denmark; [email protected] Abstract: Þingeyrar Abbey was founded in 1133 and dissolved in the wake of the Lutheran Reforma- tion (1550), to virtually disappear with time from the face of the earth. Although highly promising archeological excavations are under way, our material points of access to this important monastic foundation are still only a handful of medieval artifacts. However, throughout its medieval existence Þingeyrar Abbey was an inordinately large producer of Latin and Icelandic literature. We have the names of monastic authors, poets, translators, compilators, and scribes, who engaged creatively with such diverse subjects as Christian hagiography, contemporary history, and Norse mythology, skillfully amalgamating all of this into a coherent, imaginative whole. Thus, Þingeyrar Abbey has a prominent place in the creation and preservation of the Icelandic Eddas and Sagas that have shaped the Northern European cultural memory. Despite the dissolution of monastic libraries and wholesale destruction of Icelandic-Latin manuscripts through a mixture of Protestant zealotry and parchment reuse, philologists have been able to trace a number of surviving codices and fragments back to Þingeyrar Abbey. Ultimately, however, our primary points of access to the fascinating world of this remote Benedictine community remain immaterial, a vast corpus of medieval texts edited on the basis of manuscript copies at unknown degrees of separation from the lost originals.
