The study was conducted in collaboration with Roslagsvatten AB, a Swedish water utility, about Margretelund wastewater treatment plant’s dissolved air flotation process. The study was held during a period of 20 weeks in the spring of 2021, corresponding to 30 ECTS. There are a lot of people I am thankful for helping me through this master thesis, and especially my supervisor at Luleå university of technology (LTU), Inga Herrmann, for helping me sort through all my ideas and thoughts and encourage me during these 20 weeks. I wish to both congratulate and thank my fellow classmates from LTU, and all the discussions we have had together, through both high and lows. I would also like to direct a special thank you to my supervisor from Roslagsvatten, Daniel Zetterström, for helping me with everything and anything on-site during the thesis and always came with a good answer no matter the question. Homelessness has increased substantially in Sweden in the last decade with an emphasis on structural homelessness. Further, municipalities have the responsibility to house a certain number of newly arrived immigrants under the Settlement Act. Many municipalities have had difficulties in meeting the acute housing need, as well as its costs, and have started to look at new types of housing solutions. Initiatives of the civil society and private developers have been encouraged. This paper investigates three civil society and private housing developments and how they might contribute to socially and economically sustainable housing solutions for households in or on the verge to homelessness. In order to operationalize social and economic sustainability in relation to these local projects, a definition and an analytical set of questions have been developed based on the literature and project data. It is concluded that all three projects are socially and economically sustainable at the outset, but that certain traits of the project set-ups make them more uncertain in the longer run. The concept of sustainability proved fruitful in analysing the projects, but in many cases, non-physical factors will be person dependent and therefore difficult to generalise. -

The five visions created were examined as regards measures that decision makers at other levels in society need to take in order to make local adaptation possible. Dependencies on other levels in society are strong regarding supply of water and treatment of sewage, energy supply and cooling, the built environment and care for the elderly, showing the strong integration of organisations at various levels in Swedish society. Barriers to adaptation relate not only to how global companies, government agencies and regional authorities act, but also to the degree of privatisation in municipalities, where poor skills in public procurement pose a barrier to adaptation. ß 2013 Elsevier Ltd. We are differently organized, we have varying legislation and our coastlines differ as well as our response capacities. Only one thing is common for all – no country alone is capable of protecting all their valuable coastlines in case of a major oil spill. There is a well-established international cooperation both within HELCOM and the Copenhagen Agreement regarding offshore oil spill response. However, when it comes to shoreline oil spill response the Baltic Sea countries are lacking a platform for exchanging experiences and knowledge. This is the background for the EnSaCo project and the BOILEX exercise. The number of stakeholders involved in a shoreline oil spill response is far larger than the ones operating at sea which leads to a more complicated operation. This complexity is present also in shoreline exercises. BOILEX was no exception; we combined a theoretical table top with practical field exercises both on-shore and offshore. The exercise included 81 different organizations from 8 countries. HELCOM will include shoreline oil spills and oiled wildlife response in their overall response in the near future.
