CHAPTER 13 || THE FIELD AND THE KNOWER OF THE FIELD || I cherish God Ganesha, who is identical with my Self. Then I bow at the feet of my Master, who is the abode of all lores. Whoever thinks of him, masters the art of poetic composition and holds the lores at the tip of his tongue. He possesses such a sweet eloquence, that it surpasses nectar and the nine sentiments take recourse to all his words. The exegesis discloses its secrets and explains the different doctrines. When our mind meditates upon the feet of the Master, then their meaning dawns upon us, the lucky ones (1-5). Bowing to the feet of his Master, Jnanadeva says that the Lord of Lakshmi, father of god Brahma, spoke thus, The blessed Lord said: 1. This body, O son of Kunti (Arjuna) is called the Field, He who knows this - him the knowers thereof call the knower of the Field. O Partha, listen. This body is called the Field and he who knows this, is said to be the Knower of the Field. 2. Know Me as the knower of the Field in all the Fields, O Bharata. The knowledge of the Field and its knower is, in My view, true knowledge. Know ye definitely, that I am the Kshetrajna, who supports the Fields. To know the Field and the knower of the Field, I deem it as the true knowledge. 3. What that Field is, and of what sort, how it has evolved, and what evolves from it, and who (the knower) is and what his powers are, hear that from Me, in brief. -

Chapter X Samudra Mathana the Delineation of the Vedavyasavatara
Chapter X Samudra mathana The delineation of the Vedavyasavatara is the theme of the tenth chapter. However, as a preliminary to it, the samudramathana episode is narrated. The purpose of Vyasavatara was to remove ignorance and confusion caused by the curse of Gautama in respect of the knowledge enshrined in the Vedas, Pancharatra, Itihasapurana, and other sacred pieces of literature. For such an ignorance and confusion Kali was considerably responsible. He arose at the time of the samudramathana along with poison. Not only the personality of Kali was Kali but the ignorance and the confusion caused by him were also Kali. Destroying these was meant to destroy Kali. This was the purpose of Vyasavatara. Therefore, in order to point out that such a Kali had arisen at the time of samudramathana, that episode is narrated in the tenth chapter before the narration of Vyasavatara. The details of samudramathana are well-known. Therefore, only such items that are especially mentioned in Tatparyanirnaya and that have a deep religious significance will be stated here. At the close of the 28th Dvapara Yuga, Chaturmukha Brahma, Shiva, Indra, and other deities approached Lord Vishnu present at Shvetadvipa at the center of Kshirasamudra. They offered prayers to Him and informed Him that due to Durvasa's curse, Indra lost his power and glory and was defeated by the demons. Therefore, they had come to Him seeking protection. As per the instructions of Lord Vishnu, the deities entered into an agreement with the demons through Bali Chakravarthi and attempted to bring the Mandara mountain for samudramathana. -

CHAPTER THREE Rama, Sita, Lakshmana and Hanuman in RAMAYANA Year II Chapter 3-RAMAYANA THE RAMAYANA Introduction Valmiki is known as Adi Kabi, the first poet. He wrote an epic in Sanskrit, the Ramayana, which depicts the life of Rama, the hero of the story. Sage Narada narrated the story of Rama to Valmiki. Ramayana is divided into the following: o Balakanda (Book of Youth) - Boyhood of Rama, o Ayodhya Kanda (Book of Ayodhya) - Life in Ayodhya after Rama and Sita’s wedding, o Aranya Kanda (Book of Forest) – Rama’s forest life and abduction of Sita by Ravana, o Kishkindha Kanda (Book of Holy Monkey Empire) – Rama’s stay in Kishkindha after meeting Hanuman and Sugriva, o Sundara Kanda (Book of Beauty) – Hanuman’s Prank-locating Sita in Ashoka grove, and o Yuddha Kanda (Book of War) – Rama’s victory over Ravana in the war and Rama’s coronation. The period after coronation of Rama is considered in the last book - Uttara Kanda. The feature story Dasaratha was the king of Kosala, an ancient kingdom that was located in present day Uttar Pradesh. Ayodhya was its capital- located on the banks of the river Sarayu. Dasaratha was loved by one and all. His subjects were happy and his kingdom was prosperous. Even though Dasaratha had everything that he desired, he was very sad at heart; he had no children. During the same time, there lived a powerful Rakshasa (demon) king in the island of Sri Lanka (Ceylon), located just south of India. He was called Ravana. He had ten heads.
