Get Started With OverDrive

You will need to: Create an Adobe ID Download the Overdrive Media Console for audio , videos and music Download the for e-books

Create an Adobe ID To create an Adobe ID, go to https://www.adobe.com/account/sign- in.adobedotcom.html and complete the application.

OverDrive Media Console Starting at ctdl.lib.overdrive.com, click on OverDrive Media Console on the left column, under “Digital Software”. On the right hand side, make sure that the correct device is selected (Windows, Mac, or your type of mobile phone). Click the “Download Now” button underneath this list and it will walk you through installation.

Adobe Digital Editions Starting at ctdl.lib.overdrive.com, click on Adobe Digital Editions on the left column, under “Digital Software”. Click the “Download Adobe Digital Editions” button. Scroll down and click the “Install” button and it will walk you through installation.

OverDrive has lots of help built in! Go to the Digital Help link in the left column for assistance with getting started and using OverDrive, OverDrive Media Console, and Adobe Digital Editions.

There are several ways to search for materials. Search through the Buda Public Library’s catalog Search through the Central Texas Digital Library (CTDL) catalog

Through the Buda Public Library’s catalog - Sign in to the catalog with your card number and phone number Search for an item, just like you would search for a physical item. If the item is in OverDrive, it will say _OverDrive in the Location column and OverDrive /eAudioBook/Music/Video before the title. Click on the title to bring up the record. Click “Download this item”. That will take you to the CTDL page for that item. or…

After you sign in to your account, scroll down and click the OverDrive link to go to the CTDL catalog.

Through the CTDL catalog- Go to ctdl.lib.overdrive.com and sign in with your card number and phone number. You can search for an item by keyword or browse by format and subject using the menus on the left column.

Contact Buda Public Library for more help! 512-295-5899 or [email protected] Checking Out OverDrive Materials Reserve a title: If an item is currently checked out, you can reserve it. Click the “Place a Reserve” link and enter your email address. OverDrive will email you when the item is available. You will have three days to return to the OverDrive site to download it. Get it by clicking on “My Account” in the green bar. Next, click “My Reserves”. You can check out the item from there.

Click the “Add to Cart” link. From there, you may continue browsing or go to checkout. You can have 5 items out at one time. When you’re ready to check out, click “Proceed to Checkout”. If you’re sure, click “Confirm check out”. Next, click the “Download” button to start the download. If you are asked if you want to Open or Save the item, select Open. This will open the item in either Adobe Digital Editions (for e-books) or OverDrive Media Console.

Transferring to Your Device Once you have checked out an e- and downloaded it to your computer, you can transfer it to your e-reader.

 Plug your e-reader in to your computer to transfer e-books to it.  Open Adobe Digital Editions.  Select the 'Library View' icon (in the upper left corner).  The Adobe Digital Editions library is displayed.  Click on the Adobe eBook you want to transfer.  Drag the Adobe eBook to the eBook device icon in the left pane of Adobe Digital Editions.  The 'Copy Documents' dialog box is displayed and the title is transferred.  When transfer is complete the 'Copy Documents' dialog box closes. Disconnect the eBook device and enjoy the eBook on-the-go.

Transfer an audio book to a supported portable device using the Transfer Wizard in OverDrive Media Console.

 If you have not already done so, verify that the permissions on the title allow you to transfer the title to your supported portable device (publishers may opt to disable this functionality for certain devices).  Connect your portable player to your computer.  In OverDrive Media Console, highlight a title and click the 'Transfer' button. The Transfer Wizard is displayed.  Verify that the correct title is displayed on the first screen of the Transfer Wizard and click 'Next'. The Transfer Wizard searches for a connected portable device. If your device is not detected, the Transfer Wizard will display a message stating

If your device is detected the 'Confirm' screen is displayed.  In the 'Confirm' dialog box, select the Part(s) you want to transfer by checking the box(es) next to the Part name(s).  Click 'Next' to begin transferring the file(s) to your device. When the transfer is complete, the Transfer Wizard displays a 'Success' message.  Click 'Finish' to exit the Transfer Wizard. Disconnect your portable device.

Circulation Guidelines 5 items can be checked out on an account 3 items can be reserved All items are checked out for 14 days. There are no renewals. If your check out time is up, the item will return to the library. If no one else has reserved it, you may check it out and download it again.

Return Early If you finish with an item you have checked out early, you can return it. This will help speed up holds list and also allow you to check out more items. Open Adobe Digital Editions. Select “Library” from the upper-left corner. Right-click on the title you'd like to return. Click “Return Borrowed Item.” A dialog will appear asking if you're sure you want to return the item. Click “Return” to confirm.

Return MP3 Audio Books Early Because of OverDrive’s agreements with publishers, only MP3 audiobooks can be returned early. Other formats just have to wait until the check-out period is over. Select the title you would like to return. You can select more than one audiobook by holding down the “Ctrl” on your keyboard and clicking on each title. Click the “Delete” button to display the return and delete options. Click “Return/Delete” to both return the MP3 audiobook and delete it from your computer.
