MARRI CHENNA REDDY Jakkula Koteswara Rao Research Scholar Department of History Osmania University, Hyderabad, 500007, Telangana Abstract In this chapter researcher presented the autobioghraphy of the Dr.M.Chenna Reddy. The researcher collected information from published and unpublished data. Keywords: Early life, Minister in Hyderabad, MLA in Andhra Pradesh, Minister in Andhra Pradesh, Spice concern and then, Second term as Chief Minister, Governor of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, The end of the journey 1.1. Introduction The few leaders who have played a significant role in shaping the destiny of United Andhra Pradesh, Dr.Marri Chennareddy, with his political career of over five decades, will undoubtedly stand out as a noble man, though checked. He came from a humble lower middle class farming family, grew up eloquent in the fascinating story of a state minister, a Union cabinet minister and a governor of several states and twice rose to the positions of Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. Either way, Dr.Marri Chenna Reddy is one of the supreme national leaders, a brilliant politician who has rendered great service in the political, economic, social and cultural spheres. This is a brief description of Dr.Marri Chenna Reddy’s centenary celebrations. Dr.Marri Chennareddy, the only son of Marri Lakshmireddy and Sankaramma, was born on January 13. 1919 Dr.Marri Chenna Reddy’s home life was always happy and harmonious. Uncle’s daughter was married to Sri Savitri Devisree Kerayanareddy. Savitri Devi, popularly known as ‘Amma’, inspired the whole family. She was spiritually inclined and a great source of courage and inspiration to Dr.Marri Chenna Reddy. Dr.Marri Chenna Reddy is blessed with three sons and a daughter. Eldest son Krishna Reddy died in 1961 at the age of 21. At that young age he was elected Sarpanch of Marpalli village in his home district Vikarabad. Now the eldest son Ravindra Reddy is an active member of the Rotary organization, owns various community service projects and runs his own printing business as well as serving as Rotary District-315 District Governor. Volume XIV, Issue VI, JUNE 2021 Page No: 111 JAC : A Journal Of Composition Theory ISSN : 0731-6755 1.2. Early life Dr.Marri Chenna Reddy was born on 13 January 1919 in Pada Mangalaram village in Hyderabad State at present in Moinabad zone of Rangareddy district Telangana State. He now hails from Siripuram village in Vikarabad district. Chandrareddy, the only son of Lakshmana Reddy and Sankaramma, loved school education under the supervision of his uncle, lawyer Shri P. Srinivas Reddy. Even at the tender age of 9, he developed a secret desire to study medicine and take part in the freedom struggle. Even at the age of 10, Mahatma Gandhi’s determination was further strengthened when he heard Vivek Vardhan address a public meeting on the college grounds in Hyderabad. During his student days, Chennareddy set up a discussion society and a library in which he became secretary. Collected books on Ramayana, Mahabharata and other mythological stories and gave them to the members to read and digest the benefits of devotion. This early grinding in our great legends made Chennareddy a great follower of the noble ideals dictated by the epic characters. He began to win all the exams he took, including M. Laurels B.B.S. After graduating from Osmania Medical College, Chennareddy set up two clinics and set up his own medical practice. However, for his growing practice, the Nizam could not do justice to his desire to promote the cause of the people in the struggle against oppression at the same time. Therefore, he abandoned his medical practice and drowned in the turbulent waters of public life. He never looked back after that. First, it is the front-runner of the Andhra Mahasabha - the state branch of the Indian National Congress, of which he is the general secretary. At the Hyderabad State Congress Conference in 1946, Dr.Marri Chenna Reddy effectively demonstrated his organizational prowess at just 27 years of age. He wants the fight against truth to be fought on a Gandhian basis. Dr.Marri Chenna Reddy sometimes went to Delhi to meet Mahatma Gandhi and sought his blessings in the people’s struggle against the fact that Hyderabad wanted to be an independent nation. 1.3. Minister in Hyderabad, MLA in Andhra Pradesh The first general election held in 1952, Dr.Marri Chenna Reddy was elected to the Hyderabad Legislative Assembly from the Vikarabad double member constituency. B. Ramakrishna Rao experienced his first experience as a minister soon after being appointed as the youngest minister at the age of 33 with cabinet rank in the cabinet. He entrusted his own portfolio of civil supplies (agriculture) and agriculture - because he was confident that he Volume XIV, Issue VI, JUNE 2021 Page No: 112 JAC : A Journal Of Composition Theory ISSN : 0731-6755 could successfully solve the most difficult matter. The food supply position at that time was very dangerous, but the insight he implemented and the practical approach he followed to solve the problem set a record, which is still envied by every politician and administrator. He founded the Hyderabad Farmers’ Forum in 1953 and served as its president. The forum publishes a monthly agricultural magazine called “Kisan” with a circulation of over 10,000 in English, Telugu, Marathi and Kannada. In fact, the magazine was published by the Department of Agriculture at a huge cost of Rs 1.20 lakh without any regularity. Dr.Marri Chenna Reddy made a revolutionary change by handing over only Rs.10,000 to an unofficial organization with financial assistance. During his tenure as Minister of Food and Agriculture, Dr.Marri Chenna Reddy was a member of the Indian delegation to the International Conference of Agricultural Producers in Rome in 1953 and the Deputy Leader of the Indian delegation to the FAO Conference in Rome in 1955. He used this opportunity to visit 13 European countries, including France, West Germany, England, and Switzerland, to study their agricultural and industrial economies... which helped to create many reforms that would benefit the agrarian community. Then the use of fertilizers is unusual. Dr.Marri Chenna Reddy introduced a scheme under which any farmer who is a reliable cultivator with the certification of a village officer can avail the loan on the advice of the farm authorities. The farmer surrendered to the government under the levy system, excluding money owed at the time of payment for the food grains produced. In addition to making farmers more aware of fertilizers in the process, fertilizer consumption and food production have increased exponentially. This is one of the many measures introduced by Dr.Marri Chenna Reddy. 1.4. Minister in Andhra Pradesh After the 1962 general election, Dr.Marri Chenna Reddy was re-elected to the State Assembly and Chief Minister Dr. Neelam Sanjeevareddy joined the cabinet. He was entrusted with the planning and panchayati raj department. This is a golden age for panchayati raj institutions in the state. As a staunch believer in democratic decentralization, Dr.Marri Chenna Reddy restored the functioning of panchayati raj institutions. Following his enthusiastic exhortations, many people in rural areas donated their land without seeking compensation for the construction of village roads, school buildings and other public works. About 10,000 miles of road was under construction at the time. Dr.Marri Chenna Reddy can always find a way to provide the necessary resources when someone contacts him for any Volume XIV, Issue VI, JUNE 2021 Page No: 113 JAC : A Journal Of Composition Theory ISSN : 0731-6755 development activities anywhere in the state. In 1964, Shri Kasu Brahmanandam Reddy took over as the Chief Minister and Dr.Marri Chenna Reddy handed over the Ministry of Finance and Industries. During this period the state government acquired thousands of acres of land for the establishment of industrial estates. Dr.Marri Chenna Reddy’s foresight has proven to be a great boon to rapidly industrialize the state by creating the infrastructure required for industrial growth. He also played a key role in promoting the industrialization of the state by allocating more funds to the industrial sector and inviting entrepreneurs from outside the state. Dr.Marri Chenna Reddy Brahmanandam Reddy, who was elected to the State Legislative Assembly for the fourth time from Tandur constituency in 1967, continued in the service for a very short time. After being sworn in as the Minister of Finance, Industries and Education within a week, Dr.Marri Chenna Reddy was included in the Indira Gandhi Cabinet as the Minister of Steel, Mines and Metals with Cabinet rank. He has a rare distinction as a member of the Rajya Sabha. He stood as the second state minister to be a Union minister without a ministerial post, with many directly appointed as cabinet ministers. The first is the cabinet of Dr. Jawaharlal Nehru. C. Subramaniam. There have been instances where Chief Ministers have also joined the Union Cabinet as Assistant Ministers. During his tenure as Union Minister, Dr.Marri Chenna Reddy influenced many distances - including changes in the structure of the steel industry. His role as Union Minister in selecting Visakhapatnam for setting up the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant will always be remembered. This happened while setting up steel mills in Salem, Tamil Nadu and Vijayanagar in Karnataka. He resigned from his Union Ministry in April 1968 due to the judgment of the Andhra Pradesh High Court in the election petition. 1.5. Spice concern and then In 1955, the Government of India appointed Justice Fazal Ali as the first Chairman of the State Reorganization Commission, which recommended the reorganization of the states on the basis of language.

  • Discourses of Merit and Agrarian Morality in Telugu Popular Cinema
Communication, Culture & Critique ISSN 1753-9129 ORIGINAL ARTICLE Looking Back at the Land: Discourses of Agrarian Morality in Telugu Popular Cinema and Information Technology Labor Padma Chirumamilla School of Information, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI 48109, USA This article takes Anand Pandian’s notion of “agrarian civility” as a lens through which we can begin to understand the discourses of morality, merit, and exclusivity that color both popular Telugu film and Telugu IT workers’ understanding of their technologically enabled work. Popular Telugu film binds visual qualities of the landscape and depictions of heroic technological proficiency to protagonists’ internal dispositions and moralities. I examine the portrayal of the landscape and of technology in two Telugu films: Dhee … kotti chudu, and Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana, in order to more clearly discern the nature of this agrarian civility and—more importantly for thinking about Telugu IT workers— to make explicit its attribution of morality to “merit” and to technological proficiency. Keywords: Information Technology, Morality, Telugu Cinema, Merit, Agrarian Civility. doi:10.1111/cccr.12144 InachasesceneinthepopularTelugufilmDhee … kotti chudu, anameless gangster—having just killed off his rival’s family—is fleeing to Bangalore from Hyderabad, driving along roads surrounded by rocky, barren outcrops, and shriveled patches of trees. The rival’s boss confronts him unexpectedly on the deserted road, quickly and seemingly instantaneously surrounding him with his own men and vehicles, before killing him in retaliation. The film then quickly moves on to its main character, a rather comedic scam artist, and its main spaces, in the city of Hyderabad.1 This particular stretch of barren landscape—scene to the violence that underlies a significant revenge plot woven into the film’s story—is not returned to.

  • Building New Andhra
BUILDING NEW ANDHRA Progress of the First Plan PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT ANDHRA STATE * m : ‘ T am very glad that our Planning and Development Department is bringing out a brochure on the eve of the Intra-State Seminar. India is marching forward and Andhra has not lagged behind. I find a new activity in all the National Extension Service Blocks, Community Development Blocks, and Community Project Blocks, wherever I have been in the last few months. It is our duty to enliven the people and by harnessing their energy and enthusiasm strike at new targets. In our country there is a tradition of looking to established authority as the great Provider of all comforts. We must break this ring and make the people feel that their individual and co-operative help is needed to build our national life, progress and prosperity. This would mean raising the stan dards of living, creating new sources of wealth, increasing productivity and expanding purchasing power. We require finance. Governmental finances are limited. But if progress has to out-run the limited financial resources, the gap has to be filled by the voluntary labour of the big and the small contributed with purpose and will. Sramadan is the key to future progress and our Community Blocks are our centres whereat it can be pooled and utilized. We will cover the entire Andhra with these blocks in the next five years and let our discussions in the Seminar demarcate the way to fulfil the Second Five-Year Plan. Within our State we have good resources, good order and a tidy social scene.

  • Operation Polo - Hyderabad's Accession to India
Operation Polo - Hyderabad's accession to India Description: History, as we know, is told by the winning side, in the way they'd choose to. During Indian independence, the military action Operation Polo annexed the princely state of Hyderabad to India, against the communists and the Nizam rule. This part of history is often not spoken about as much as we speak of the freedom movement or the partition. Yunus Lasania, in his two-part episode on Operation Polo, tells the story of the Hyderabad rebellion through the people who lived through that time. In this episode, Burgula Narsing Rao, the nephew of the first chief minister of Hyderabad state before the creation of Joint Andhra Pradesh Burgula Ramakrishna Rao shares his memories and view of the Hyderabad rebellion during the last phase of Nizam's rule. Hello everyone! This episode is going to be very special. All the episodes that we will release this month will be important, as they relate with one part of Hyderabad’s history, which is suppressed since independence. In 2017, India celebrated 70 years of its independence. Funnily, the independence day back in 1947 didn’t mean anything to Hyderabad. Hyderabad was a princely state until 1948. It comprised parts of Maharashtra, Karnataka and Telangana, had 16 districts ( 8 in Telangana and 8 in Maharashtra). The present-day Andhra and Rayalaseema areas were with the British. During/after 15 August 1947, most princely states Joined the Indian union, but, Hyderabad was one among the handful that refused to join. The state of Hyderabad was ruled by the last Nizam- Mir Osman Ali Khan.

  • The Demand for a Separate State - K
TELANGANA MOVEMENT The Demand for a Separate State - K. Jayashankar* A Historical Perspective The people of Telangana are once again restive, reiterating their demand for a separate state. The demand of the people of this region for a separate state is not a new development. It was voiced much before the formation of Andhra Pradesh and continues to be raised even thereafter. The reason for the opposition of people of Telangana to join Visalandhra (metamorphosed to Andhra Pradesh) was fear of neglect and injustice in the enlarged state and the reason for their refusal to continue in the present state is the actual experience of becoming victims of neglect and injustice. The States Reorganization Commission (SRC) set up by the government of India in early 50s to examine the question of reorganization of states of the country was, in fact, not in favour of merging the Telangana region with the then Andhra state. After a very careful examination of the issues involved the SRC recommended: “... It will be in the interest of Andhra as well as Telangana if, for the present, the Telangana area is constituted into a separate state which may be known as the Hyderabad state, with provision for its unification with Andhra after the general elections likely to be held in or about 1961, if by two-thirds majority the legislature of the residuary Hyderabad state expresses itself in favour of such unification”. (SRC Report: Para 386) The commission further recommended: “Andhra and Telangana have common interests and we hope these interests will tend to bring the people closer to each other.
