In this lesson we will come to know about spiritual component of physical education and Yog. Spirituality is the basic and subtle dimension of personality as is a root for the tree. When spiritual awareness grows, thoughts, concepts and values also change. So in this lesson we are going to study the concept of spirituality and how to transform this in our life. Mantra chanting is very ancient technique to maintain inner strength and tranquillity. So Raj Yog and Mantra vibration will also be the focussed in this lesson. We are also going to discuss how one can develop inner awareness and its importance. Without spiritual aspect life is incomplete and it is yogic philosophy which first purifies body discipline, mind and growing in spiritual life. The concept of Ashtang Yog or Raj Yog is very practical for Poorn swasthya (complete health). At last we will also know about the concept of meditation. Introduction to Hatha Yoga CLASS-VI 3 Notes INTRODUCTION TO HATHA YOGA Hatha yoga is an ancient spiritual yogic practice. The word 'Hatha' is composed of two syllables 'Ha' and 'Tha' which denote the 'Pingala' and the 'Ida', the vital and the mental, the solar and the lunar energies in the human system. It is the science of creating a harmony between these two energies within us so as to help us to achieve a higher consciousness in life. Classical Hatha yoga has five limbs, which are; ¾ Shatkarma:This is the six purificatory or cleansing practices, namely; • Neti • Dhauti • Basti • Nauli • Kapalbhati • Trataka OBE-Bharatiya Jnana Parampara 39 Introduction to Hatha Yoga CLASS-VI ¾ Asana: This is the physical postures. It is to gain steadiness of body and mind, freedom from disease and the lightness of limbs. Notes ¾ Pranayama: This brings the purification of the Nadis, The experience of the Pranic field, increase in the quantum of Prana and eventually leads the mind into meditation. ¾ Mudra: This is a gesture which controls and channelize the Prana (life force) in a particular way. ¾ Bandha: This means to lock or to stop. In the practice of a Bandha, the energy flow to a particular area of the body is blocked. The Concept of Existence (Bhava) in Early Buddhism Pranab Barua, Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University, Thailand The Asian Conference on Ethics, Religion & Philosophy 2021 Official Conference Proceedings Abstract The transition in Dependent Origination (paṭiccasamuppāda) between clinging (upādāna) and birth (jāti) is often misunderstood. This article explores the early Buddhist philosophical perspective of the relationship between death and re-birth in the process of following bhava (uppatti-bhava) and existing bhava (kamma-bhava). It additionally analyzes the process of re- birth (punabbhava) through the karmic processes on the psycho-cosmological level of becoming, specifically how kamma-bhava leads to re-becoming in a new birth. The philosophical perspective is established on the basis of the Mahātaṇhāsaṅkhaya-Sutta, the Mahāvedalla-Sutta, the Bhava-Sutta (1) and (2), the Cūḷakammavibhaṅga-Sutta, the Kutuhalasala-Sutta as well as commentary from the Visuddhimagga. Further, G.A. Somaratne’s article Punabbhava and Jātisaṃsāra in Early Buddhism, Bhava and Vibhava in Early Buddhism and Bhikkhu Bodhi’s Does Rebirth Make Sense? provide scholarly perspective for understanding the process of re-birth. This analysis will help to clarify common misconceptions of Tilmann Vetter and Lambert Schmithausen about the role of consciousness and kamma during the process of death and rebirth. Specifically, the paper addresses the role of the re-birth consciousness (paṭisandhi-viññāṇa), death consciousness (cūti-viññāṇa), life continuum consciousness (bhavaṅga-viññāṇa) and present consciousness (pavatti-viññāṇa) in the context of the three natures of existence and the results of action (kamma-vipāka) in future existences. Introduction Ask anyone who ever met His Holiness Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche about his qualities and you will probably get a similar description. He had a most unusual physical presence. His body was grand and stable like a mountain, yet a soft, yielding, and vibrant energy seemed to flow through him unobstructedly, like a river. Most striking was the unceasing quality of his teaching. There was no break in his speech: as he inhaled he taught and as he exhaled he taught. An unending stream of people came to see him each day, yet his compas- sionate activities and his longing to serve others never diminished. How does someone with so many people under his care generate such deep reservoirs of energy? For us to truly understand the wonder and mystery of his activity we will have to study and practice the Dharma. His Holiness, without a doubt, embodied all the great tradi- tions of the rime, or non-sectarian, movement and demonstrated this as a living experience, manifesting an example of enlightened activity for all to see. He has, with great kindness, passed many of these teachings on to us either directly or through our own teachers. Now is the time to put them to use. The prayers in this book have been compiled for the cenntenial celebrations of His Holiness’ birth in the United States. This year Rinpoche graciously returns to us as a promising young man of 17 years. -

Usually done from seated, it can be applied to a variety of poses. • Inhale through the nose. • Exhale through the mouth, making a "ha" sound. while and sticking out the tongue and crossing the eyes • Inhale, returning to a neutral face, Repeat 3-5x 3 Swana (Panting Breath) Panting in tandem with a pumping movement of the abdomen - good preparation for Kaphalbhati/Bhastrika • Inhale & Exhale full through both nostrils • Inhale through open mouth & as you exhale pant like a dog with the tongue handing out for 10-20 cycles • Inhale hold the breath in • Release and take several normalizing breaths Kapalabhati: Skull Polishing Intended to create alertness & mental clarity while purifying the energy body • Forceful exhale, expelling breath rapidly • Inhalation of it’s own accord • Expel the air in a steady rhythm 4 Bhastrika: Bellows Breath Similar to Kapalabhati, with a change of emphasis of bringing control to both the inhale & exhale. -

Marma points are important vital places in the body, that are the ‘seats of life’ (Prana - the vital life force). As any injury to these parts may lead to severe pain, disability, loss of function, loss of sensation, or death, therefore, they hold an important place in the science of surgery, wherein they are considered ‘Shalya Vishayardha’ (half of the entire science of surgery). The ancient scriptures have strictly directed against causing any injury to these vital spots. However, recent researches have attempted the stimulation of Marma points for theraputic benefits, with encouraging outcomes. In view of these mutually conflicting, importance applications of Marma Science, the present study was undertaken for its in-depth study. Part-1 of this study presented the information about different aspects of Marma Science in various ancient / classical Indian scriptures. Part-2 gave a detailed description of the number of marmas, their location, structures involved, classification, effect of trauma, etc., as per classical texts, as well as correlation with modern science.
