The town is 7 miles west-by-north from Appledore station on the Rye and Hastings branch and 9 south-east from Headcorn station on the main line of the South Eastern and Chatham railway, 18 south-east from Maidstone, 12 south-west from Ashford, 8 south-west from Cranbrook, 10 north-west from Rye and 53 from London. The borough includes part of Stone-cum-Ebony. The town is lighted with gas supplied by a company, established in 1838, and has a good supply of water procured from springs, pipes for the supply of water to the town having been laid down by the Cranbrook Water Co.     Outline Application Submission – Broadway Slip, Pluckley Road, Charing, Kent Design and Access Statement Introduction This document forms part of the outline application submission for the development of the land adjacent to The Old Corn Store, now otherwise known as Broadway Slip, to provide three new dwellings consisting of 2No. detached, three-bedroom chalet bungalows and 1No. two storey detached four-bedroom. The existing site is a dense tree lined strip of land positioned between The Old Corn Store and the Grade II listed Broadway Cottages. The vast majority of these trees are located outside of the site boundary and are believed to either be owned by the Local Authority or the land owners around the site. Existing Site The application site is located on Pluckley Road, Charing, approximately 0.5 miles from the centre of the village. The site is clearly defined with timber post and wire/mesh fencing to all four boundaries and measures approximately 2300 sqm in area. Site access for maintenance is via an existing temporary gate serviced by a drop kerb. The site boundary/gates in this location are set back approximately 4.9m from the edge of Pluckley Road. 1.0 Site Location Plan The application site, which was formerly part of the gardens to The Old Corn Store, has become scrub land in more recent years and is disused by the owners and can reasonably be defined as an infill site with clear definition of the residential curtilages of the adjacent properties continuing across the rear of the proposed development site. 1 Broadway cottages to the north-east of the site are a pair of Grade II listed late 18 th century – early 19 th century cottages, finished with timber weatherboarding and a hipped clay tile roof.

K.A.MMELL, M.A., EECTOE OF HIGH HALDEN. THE following Notes may serve as a short supplement to the "Architectural History of High. Halden Church," by the Rev. G. M, Livett, !\S.AV printed in this Volume :— Previous to the restoration of the Church in the year 1868, the Churchwardens' Accounts record the following additions and alterations to the fabric. In 1786 a dial which is still in existence was bought. In 1836 a vestry-room was built in the angle between the chancel and south chapel, at an expense of £6B 3s. 5d. It was demolished in 1868, In 1847 the clock of the old Chnrch at Frittenden was bought. This clock was restored at the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria. In 1849 the Rural Deans were " much gratified .... by the scraping of the Pillars aud arches, which affords good hope that those that remain will be completed." In the year 1868 a sum of £3000 became available uuder the will of the widow of the Rev. Evelyn Levett Sutton (Rector 1806—25). It was left to be expended for the "spiritual good" of the parish, and it was decided to restore the Church and build a parochial school. Both these works were carried out under the direction of the late Mr. G. B. Street. I have been able fco gather the following information from per- sons who remember the Church before this restoration.

    Archaeologia Cantiana Vol. 16 1886 BETHERSDEN, ITS CHURCH, AND MONU- MENTAL INSCRIPTIONS. BY THE REV. A. J. PEARMAN, M.A. (FOEMBELT VIOAE OF BETHEESDEN.) THE parish church of Bethersden is a lofty and spacious building, standing in a good situation at the west end of the village. It follows very much a local type, and consists of nave, with north and south aisles; chancel, with north and south chapels, belonging to the Frid and Lovelace estates; vestry; south porch; and western tower, which contains a clock and peal of six bells. A seventh bell is placed on the exterior of the tower. No mention is made of Bethersden in Domesday Boole, but Archbishop Hubert about the year 1194 confirmed " ecclesiam S. Margaretse de Beatrichesdenne cum bosco et decimis et cum capella de Hecchisdenne "* to the Priory of * HECCHISDENNE, or Etchden, lies at the north-eastern extremity of the parish. Hasted says that in Henry III.'s reign " one William de Hacchesden had some claim to the possession of'it." 12 Richard II. (1389) Thomas Try vet, Chivaler, and Elizabeth his wife, held in " Beterisdenne " a certain tenement called " Heithesdenne," a memher of the manor of Boughton Aluph, as of the Honour of Boulogne. Four years afterwards it was the property of Thomas, Earl of Stafford. It now belongs to Lord Hothfield. The house has no remains of antiquity, but the moat is still to be seen, and is partially filled with water. There may be also noticed the trunks of some aged oaks; one in particular must have been a fine tree centuries ago.

    CABINET –Agenda item 14 9TH OCTOBER 2014 MOBILE HOMES ACT 2013 – CHARGING POLICY Further to the previous Meeting of the Cabinet held on the 4th September 2014, there is a need to report back on the issue of the Annual Monitoring Fee under the Mobile Homes Act 2013. At the September Meeting the Cabinet agreed that the Park Homes Policy Working Group be asked to discuss the Annual Monitoring Fee and come back to the Cabinet with a recommended final fee. At its meeting on 24th September 2014, the Park Homes Policy Working Group recommended that the Annual Monitoring Fee should be £40 per pitch, with an exception for individual owner occupied sites. It also recommended that the fee be implemented from 1st September 2015 and would be reviewed every three years. A copy of the original report to Cabinet has been appended to this update for information. Recommended: That (i) the Cabinet recommend to Council that the Annual Monitoring Fee be set at £40 per pitch, with an exception for individual owner occupied sites (ii) the Annual Monitoring Fee be charged starting on 1 September 2015.
