There is T no automatic return to the old normal. Change is in the air. In church we pray for a very specific change very regularly when we pray: Thy kingdom come. The second line from the Lord’s Prayer, a prayer that echoes in the back of many minds. For Christians the prayer is part of every formal act of worship. The first thing we ask: Your kingdom, dear God on earth: but what, exactly are we asking for? The next line gives us a big clue: ‘as it is in heaven’. -

The church celebrations, Holy Week, Easter, Ascension Day, Pentecost, Trinity and of course Christmas. They still happened but without the pomp and ceremony that we have become used to. Perhaps the pandemic has enabled us to go back to the sacredness of our church festivals and allowed us to engage with them in a more spiritual way. I’ve also missed my family and friends. The gatherings we would normally have during the year just haven’t happened. -

Throughout the games and various formats the teams showed amazing depth, from the School boys, university boys to older boys. As with previous seasons we gave some of the larger league clubs a demonstration in the art of village cricket. There were some stand out performances with the bat from Morris and Sloan at the top of the order, and great middle order hitting and game management from the likes of Jasper Piper, Will Simpson and new boy Ben Browning. Notable mention must also go to Jonesy Jnr who notched up his maiden half century for the club, and outscored his old man for what will be the first of many seasons to come. The Bowling attack was once again driven by the ever dependable Smith and Bradney, taking close to fifty wickets between them and more often than not laying the foundation for victory. -

KELLY'S DIRECTORY OF KENT AND SUSSEX 1915 TENTERDEN PAGES REPRODUCED TENTERDEN is a municipal borough, market town, a limb of the Cinque Port and liberty of Rye (Sussex) and the head of a union and country court district and parish, giving its name to the hundred, in the Southern division of the county, lathe of Scray and in the rural deanery of West Charing and archdeaconry of Maidstone, with a station, within two minutes’ walk of the centre of the town, on the Kent and East Sussex Railway, which is connected with the South Eastern and Chatham railway at Robertsbridge and Headcorn. The town is 7 miles west-by-north from Appledore station on the Rye and Hastings branch and 9 south-east from Headcorn station on the main line of the South Eastern and Chatham railway, 18 south-east from Maidstone, 12 south-west from Ashford, 8 south-west from Cranbrook, 10 north-west from Rye and 53 from London. The borough includes part of Stone-cum-Ebony. The town is lighted with gas supplied by a company, established in 1838, and has a good supply of water procured from springs, pipes for the supply of water to the town having been laid down by the Cranbrook Water Co. Tenterden possesses all the privileges of the Cinque Ports and received a charter of incorporation from Henry VI, and a new charter was granted 42 Elizabeth (1599-1600): it is a member of the ancient town of Rye and at the time of its annexation by Henry VI, the sea flowed up to the parish at Small Hythe. -

Outline Application Submission – Broadway Slip, Pluckley Road, Charing, Kent Design and Access Statement Introduction This document forms part of the outline application submission for the development of the land adjacent to The Old Corn Store, now otherwise known as Broadway Slip, to provide three new dwellings consisting of 2No. detached, three-bedroom chalet bungalows and 1No. two storey detached four-bedroom. The existing site is a dense tree lined strip of land positioned between The Old Corn Store and the Grade II listed Broadway Cottages. The vast majority of these trees are located outside of the site boundary and are believed to either be owned by the Local Authority or the land owners around the site. Existing Site The application site is located on Pluckley Road, Charing, approximately 0.5 miles from the centre of the village. The site is clearly defined with timber post and wire/mesh fencing to all four boundaries and measures approximately 2300 sqm in area. Site access for maintenance is via an existing temporary gate serviced by a drop kerb. The site boundary/gates in this location are set back approximately 4.9m from the edge of Pluckley Road. 1.0 Site Location Plan The application site, which was formerly part of the gardens to The Old Corn Store, has become scrub land in more recent years and is disused by the owners and can reasonably be defined as an infill site with clear definition of the residential curtilages of the adjacent properties continuing across the rear of the proposed development site. 1 Broadway cottages to the north-east of the site are a pair of Grade II listed late 18 th century – early 19 th century cottages, finished with timber weatherboarding and a hipped clay tile roof.
