Pippaciné Pieter van Huystee Film Contact: Ms.Sophia Talamas Contact: Ms.Curien Kroon Interviews & Press, Worldwide Interviews & Press, Holland Email: [email protected] Email: [email protected] http://shadoman-film.com SHADO’MAN Shot in Freetown, Sierra Leone 87 min, feature length documentary Available on DCP Original language Krio Subtitles English, French or Dutch LOGLINE A community of friends, each facing severe physical and psychological challenges, survives on the nocturnal streets of Freetown, Sierra Leone. The film delves deep into their life, telling a story of humanity and dignity in a world that otherwise offers little consolation. SYNOPSIS A bitter logic lies in the fact that those whom the society does not care to see are living by night. At the junction of Lightfoot-Boston and Wilberforce in downtown Freetown, Sierra Leone the streets of the city are covered in darkness. Only a few street lamps and flares of light from passing cars and motorcycles sporadically illuminate the Dantesque scenery. This is where a group of friends live. They call themselves the Freetown Streetboys, even though some women are among them. They each face enormous physical and psychological challenges. From early childhood when they endured the neglect and scorn of their parents until the present day, their life has been one of social abandonment by the world around them. With no place but the bleak and sleepless streets of the capital city, they are condemned to a life of begging. Shado’man is a cinematic journey undertaken by the filmmaker together with the ‘Streetboys’: Suley, Lama, David, Alfred, Shero and Sarah. -

Ed Van Der Elsken Archives 1
ED VAN DER ELSKEN ARCHIVES 1 NOBUYOSHI ARAKI LOVE ON THE LEFT EYE In collaboration with Taka Ishii Gallery 06.09. - 18.10.2014 For the opening exhibition of Ed van der Elsken Archives, we are pleased to present Love on the Left Eye featuring work from Nobuyoshi Araki’s (1940, Tokyo, JP) publication of the same title alongside works from Ed van der Elsken’s Love on the Left Bank. Almost identically titled to the photography book that brought Van der Elsken to prominence, Love on the Left Eye can be seen as an homage to the Dutch pho- tographer as well as a return to Araki’s early inspirations. Araki made the photographs that form Love on the Left Nobuyoshi Araki, Love on the Left Eye, 2014 Eye, with the vision from his right eye obscured due to a retinal artery obstruction. Shot on slide film, Araki used black magic marker to block out the right side of each image, before printing the photographs. The images thus show Araki’s vision, both as an artist and as an individual confronted by his mortality (having recently also recovered from pros- tate cancer). Araki came into contact with Love on the Left Bank in his twenties and took photo- graphs of women in poses inspired by the ones found in Van der Elsken’s book. At this late stage in his career and facing the prospect of loosing all sight from his right eye, we thus find Araki go- ing back to his early influences. “Death comes towards us all, you know,” he says. -
Landscaping with Native Plants by Stephen L
SHORT-SEASON, HIGH-ALTITUDE GARDENING BULLETIN 862 Landscaping with native plants by Stephen L. Love, Kathy Noble, Jo Ann Robbins, Bob Wilson, and Tony McCammon INTRODUCTION There are many reasons to consider a native plant landscape in Idaho’s short- season, high-altitude regions, including water savings, decreased mainte- nance, healthy and adapted plants, and a desire to create a local theme CONTENTS around your home. Ed Van Der Elsken “Love” & Other Stories Howard Greenberg Gallery
For Immediate Release Ed van der Elsken “Love” & Other Stories Howard Greenberg Gallery March 22 – May 5, 2018 Vali Myers in Saint Germain des Pres, Paris, 1951 Gelatin silver print; printed c.1980 Image size: 10 1/4 x 10 3/8 inches Paper size: 14 x 11 inches NEW YORK – An exhibition of work by Ed van der Elsken, known as the “enfant terrible” of Dutch photography, will be on view at Howard Greenberg Gallery from March 22 through May 5, 2018. “Love” & Other Stories will focus on the celebrated street photographer’s work from the 1950s and 60s documenting the social culture around him in Amsterdam, Paris, and Tokyo. An opening reception will be held on Thursday, March 22, from 6-8 p.m. With a confident, gritty, and unconventional style, van der Elsken’s confrontational portraits of young love, alienation, and counterculture bohemian life paved the way for late 20th century photographers such as Larry Clark, Nan Goldin, and Wolfgang Tillmans. He is best known for his iconic photography book, Love on the Left Bank, 1954, acclaimed for expanding the boundaries of documentary photography. His work was most recently seen last year in a retrospective exhibition at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, which traveled to the Jeu de Paume in Paris and the Fundación Mapfre in Madrid. Ed van der Elsken (1925-1990) was “a man who would have liked to have transplanted a camera into his head to permanently record the world around him” noted Beatrix Ruf, the director of the Stedelijk Museum and Marta Gili, the director of the Jeu de Paume wrote in his retrospective exhibition catalogue. -
