DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND RECREATION STATE PARK SYSTEM PURPOSE STATEMENTS Page 1 of 435 Unit/Property Name and Unit Number Admiral William Standley SRA #118 12/1975 - Statement of Purpose Admiral William Standley State Recreation Area - The purpose of Admiral William Standley State Recreation Area is to make possible the public enjoyment of recreational experiences in a natural redwood-Douglas fir forest association on the banks of the South Fork Eel River near and upstream from the town of Branscomb in Mendocino County. Overnight or day use activities for recreational enjoyment by the public may be provided to the extent that there is not impariment of the natural values inherent to the site. The prime recreational values relate to the forest situation and to the South Fork Eel River. 09/1975 - Interpretive Perspectus - Division Approved The purpose of Admiral William Standley State Recreation Area is to make available to the people forever, for their use and enjoyment, a beautiful grove of Coast Redwoods and associated plant and animal life, enhanced by the South Fork of the Eel River in the vicinity of Mud Creek in northern Mendocino County. The function of the Department of Parks and Recreation at Admiral William Standley State Recreation Area is to manage all of the varied resources of the Park, and perpetuate them for the enjoyment of future generations. 07/1959 - Statement of Purpose The preservation of a fine grove of coast redwoods with 3,200 feet of river front and to make available for day use when conditions warrant it. Box 942896 Sacramento, CA 94296 ATTN: Manager, General Plans DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND RECREATION STATE PARK SYSTEM PURPOSE STATEMENTS Page 2 of 435 Unit/Property Name and Unit Number Ahjumawi Lava Springs SP #190 10/2000 - General Plan Policy Committee The purpose of Ahujumawi Lava Springs State Park, in Shasta County, is to preserve and protect a remote and pristine area containing one of the largest systems of freshwater springs in the western United States, springs which percolate through porous lava to sustain the unit's Big Lake and Horr Pond. The unit contains extensive recent volcanic flows, with jagged surfaces, deep faults, lava tubes and cinder cones. The shoreline areas and pond islets support oak, pine and juniper forests, and the slopes support rabbit brush and sagebrush. Cultural features include prehistoric Native American rock fish traps and bedrock mortars, as well as village and ceremonial sites. The unit provides magnificent vistas of Mount Shasta, Mount Lassen, as well as other regional peaks. California State Parks will preserve, protect, restore, interpret and manage the unit's cultural, natural, aesthetic and scenic resources, features and values, making them available to the public for their educational, inspirational and recreational benefits. Particular attention will be given to the protection of the heron rookery which exists on the island. No overnight activities may be permitted for the public on the island. Box 942896 Sacramento, CA 94296 ATTN: Manager, General Plans DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND RECREATION STATE PARK SYSTEM PURPOSE STATEMENTS Page 6 of 435 Unit/Property Name and Unit Number Anderson Marsh SHP #701 01/1988 - General Plan The purpose of Anderson Marsh State Historic Park is to make available to the people for their inspiration, enlightenment, and enjoyment the superlative cultural resources including the archeological setting and southeastern Pomo features; the outstanding wetland habitats and naturally functioning biotic communities; and the historic features, scenic landscape, and recreational opportunities that will supplement the public's enjoyment of the unit in a manner consistent with the Department's preservation and educational objectives and with scientific interest foe the prime archeological and natural values. 01/1988 - Interpretive Perspectus - Division Approved The purpose of the Anderson Marsh State Historic Park is to make available to the people for their inspiration, enlightenment, and enjoyment the superlative cultural resources including the archeological setting and southeastern Pomo features; the outstanding wetland habitats and naturally functioning biotic communities; and the historic features, scenic landscape and recreational opportunities that will supplement the public's enjoyment of the unit in a manner consistent with the preservation and educational objectives for the prime archeological and natural values. The Department shall define and execute a program of resource management to perpetuate the unit's declared values. The Department shall provide recreational facilities and interpretation that make these values available in a manner consistent with their perpetuation. The function of the Division of Beaches and Parks at Angel Island State Park is: to preserve and protect the natural and historical values of Angel Island; to provide appropriate interpretive services and facilities; to defend the geographical isolation of the Island, in order to preserve the unique experience for visitors which is dependent on such isolation; to provide appropriate recreational opportunities for visitors; and to provide such facilities for public services, consistent with the
