Just to you as a BONUS for getting “Go Viral” TABLE OF CONTENTS What Do I Send These Contacts? There isn’t a “One Size Fits All” kind of package to send everyone since you’ll have a different end goal with each person you are contacting. But there are a few basic DO’s and DON’Ts that I will cover Think thoroughly when deciding what to send. For example, if you are trying to get a blog to publish a story about you, you’re probably going to want to send them a press release, information about you, and what makes you interesting! If you’re trying to get College Radio to play your music, you’re probably going to want to send your music and your EPK. A lot of it can be pretty basic but I also put together a few tips and tricks below to help you! Before each section in this book, I also offer video trainings, and extra help to navigate through how to approach these contacts. I would definitely recommend reading these articles as it will greatly increase your chances of getting included in media, blog, playlists and more! DO’s --Do send an EPK if you have one. (See the next article after this one for recommendations on where you can create and host one and what to include in it) If you don’t have one, its recommended that you CREATE ONE. You’ll look more professional and be able to organize your content creatively and efficiently! WATCH MY FREE TRAINING HERE ON HOW TO GET PUBLISHED IN MEDIA --Do make a short introduction of who you are in your email, what kind of music you make, and a short paragraph about you and what makes you different! *****DO send QUALITY content because at the end of the day, you could submit to every single email here, but if you don’t have quality content, and don’t send the right type of material, you won’t gather any interest from the media outlets you are reaching out to. Ultimately, it’s up to them whether they enjoy what they hear and want to consider publishing you or not. DONT’s ****DON”T ever send attachments on emails. Don’t attach your songs or music videos to any emails you send out. The people you are trying to contact may even have an email filter that will block your email so they don’t receive it at all, or if they see that you sent attachment, they’ll know you haven’t done your research on proper submission etiquette and will likely skip it all together. Instead, make sure to send your content in links. For example: Send a soundcloud link if you are submitting a song. Send a youtube link if you are submitting a music video. Send a dropbox link if you are submitting a one-sheet or other information that they can download if they wish to. And don’t worry, all of these sites (Soundcloud, youtube etc) have options for you to put your video or song, unlisted so until you’re ready to release them, only those have the direct link can hear or view them. ****DON’T send them a message like “I’M THE NEXT BIG THING” or “I’M THE HOTTEST RAPPER IN THE WORLD”. It doesn’t leave a unique impression. Instead, focus on making yourself stand out. I was reading a short bio the other day from a band that I loved! In the bio they said, “We may look like a bunch of average guys who would fix your computer or plumbing, but don’t let that fool you!” It was just a fun little way to grab attention and made them stand out from all of the other entries. Keep in mind, media outlets get HUNDREDS of entries so put your best foot forward *****DON’T get discouraged if you only hear back from a fraction of them. They can’t write back everyone simply because they don’t have the time. If you only get a tiny percentage of them to write you back, you are actually doing well!! All you need is ONE great music industry connect to make a huge impact in your music career so focus on that If you are getting no responses at all, I recommend re- evaluating the content you are sending them.
