As such, we have decided to celebrate the return of the upcoming Cup season with a series of emails diving deep into New Zealand’s history in the America’s Cup. Over the next few months, we’ll take you on a journey into the past and back again, with an in-depth insider’s view of Team New Zealand’s triumphs and disasters. TE KAHU - THE HAWK With the team’s recent reveal of their new custom designed and built test boat, ‘Te Kãhu’, we thought this the perfect chance to take a look at this new boat, its purpose and what exactly it means for the team. With a hydraulic system on-board that utilises Hydraulink hoses and fittings, this is a project very near to our hearts and we’re incredibly proud to have contributed to the build of this ground-breaking yacht. Purpose-built by ETNZ’s dedicated team of over 30 skilled boat builders, Te Kãhu was created to allow the sailing crew to continue their on-wa- ter development program without delay, whilst Te Aihe is packed up and shipped to Europe in preparation for the first of the America’s Cup World Series events beginning in April. While the series’ rules on test yachts dictated that this boat be limited to a length of 12m or less in comparison to Te Aihe’s larger 20.7 metre hull, don’t be fooled by her size – Te Kãhu is every bit as technologically advanced as Te Aihe. -

Emirates Team New Zealand were the first to officially reveal their boat at an early morning naming cere- mony on September 6. Resplendent in the team’s familiar red, black and grey livery, the Kiwi AC75 was given the Maori nam e ‘Te Aihe’ (Dolphin). Meanwhile, the Americans somewhat broke with protocol by carrying out a series of un -announced test sails and were the first team to foil their AC75 on the water prior to a formal launch ceremony on Friday September 14 when their dark blue boat was given t he name ‘Defiant’. But it was not just the paint jobs that differentiated the first two boats of this 36th America’s Cup cycle – as it quickly became apparent that the New Zealand and American hull designs were also strikingly differ- ent.On first compar ison the two teams’ differing interpretations of the AC75 design rule are especially obvi- ous in the shape of the hull and the appendages. While the New Zealanders have opted for a bow section that is – for want of a better word – ‘pointy’, the Americans h ave gone a totally different route with a bulbous bow that some have described as ‘scow -like’ – although true scow bows are prohibited in the AC75 design rule. -

LEGISLATIVE ANALYST REPORT: COSTS AND BENEFITS OF HOSTING THE 34TH AMERICA’S CUP IN SAN FRANCISCO EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The America’s Cup is the premier sailing event in the world. Hosting the 34th America’s Cup in San Francisco, an event reported to be the third largest in all of sports behind the Olympics and the World Cup, would make San Francisco one of only seven cities in the world to have hosted an America’s Cup. In addition to the prestige of such an event, hosting the America’s Cup would also bring significant economic benefits to the region. The Budget and Legislative Analyst wants to make it very clear that the disclosures made in this report, pertaining to the estimated costs and benefits to the City and County of San Francisco, are not for the purpose of determining whether the America’s Cup should be held in San Francisco. We clearly recognize the importance and prestige of hosting such an event in San Francisco. However, it is the responsibility of the Budget and Legislative Analyst to report the facts to the Board of Supervisors. On February 14, 2010, at the 33rd America’s Cup in Valencia, Spain, BMW Oracle, a sailing syndicate (or team) based out of the Golden Gate Yacht Club in San Francisco, defeated the defending syndicate to become the winner of the 33rd America’s Cup. Under the rules governing the America’s Cup, the winner of the America’s Cup is entitled to select the race format, date, and location of the next race. -

Australian Special Regulations Part 1 apply as for a Category 7 event. The Rules of the S80 Association of WA (except as any of these are altered by the Sailing Instructions) Each participating yacht club Sailing Instructions as listed in item 7.0. 2.0 ADVERTISING 2.1 As boats are supplied by the competitors the advertising category of the S80 Class shall apply. 2.2 Boats shall not be permitted the right to protest for breaches of any rules regarding advertising. (Amends RRS 60.1). 3.0 ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY 3.1 The series is open to boats of the S80 class that have skippers who are: a) Owners of S80 yachts who are skipper financial members of the S80 Yacht Association of WA, or b) Non-owners of S80 yachts who are alternate skipper financial members of the S80 Yacht Association of WA, or c) Other non-owners of S80 yachts as the committee of the S80 Yacht Association of WA in their absolute discretion may determine. -

2 September 13 The Protocol Governing the 34th America’s Cup Incorporating Amendments 1 through 19 Page 1 of 43 2 September 13 (i) The Golden Gate Yacht Club (ii) Club Nautico di Roma BACKGROUND The Golden Gate Yacht Club, having won the 33rd America’s Cup, holds the silver cup known as the “America’s Cup” in accordance with the terms of a Deed of Gift dated 24 October 1887. The Golden Gate Yacht Club has received and accepted a notice of challenge from Club Nautico di Roma in accordance with the Deed of Gift. The Golden Gate Yacht Club and Club Nautico di Roma now record in this Protocol the arrangements they have mutually agreed in accordance with the terms of the Deed of Gift. AGREED AS FOLLOWS PART A INTERPRETATION 1. In the interpretation of this Protocol: 1.1. (a) AC45 Class Rule means the class rule for the yachts to be used in regattas prior to the implementation of the AC72 Class Rule and in other regattas that do not form part of the Event (such as youth regattas), including all amendments, interpretations and rulings. (b) AC45 Yacht means a yacht that complies with the AC45 Class Rule. (c) AC72 Yacht means a yacht that complies or could comply with the AC72 Class Rule. (d) AC72 Class Rule means the type, specifications and construction rules of the yachts to be used in the Event in accordance with this Protocol. (e) ACPI means America’s Cup Properties Incorporated, a company incorporated in the State of New York, United States of America, the holder of America’s Cup trade mark registrations and the licensor of those trade marks. -

12 METRE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2019 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Barby MacGowan, Media Pro International, +1 (401) 849-0220 or SallyAnne Santos, ITMA, +1 (401) 847-0112 A Sailing Spectacle Like No Other 12 Metre World Championship Set for Newport in July NEWPORT, RI (November 6, 2018) – With a little over eight months to go, Ida Lewis Yacht Club, the International Twelve Metre Association (ITMA) America’s Fleet and the 12 Metre Yacht Club are gearing up for the largest-ever gathering of historic 12 Metre yachts in the U.S. at the 2019 12 Metre World Championship. Scheduled for July 8-13, the regatta will host 24 teams from seven countries, and the fleet will include Italian Patrizio Bertelli’s US-12 Nyala, which is the defending 12 Metre World Champion, and five yachts that have successfully defended the America’s Cup: US-16 Columbia (1958), US-17 Weatherly (1962), US-22 Intrepid(1967 & 1970), US-26 Courageous (1974 & 1977) and US-30 Freedom (1980). 12 Metres racing in Barcelona during the 2014 12 Metre World Championship. Over the last two years, there has been an emphasis on developing new teams, training for the worlds and getting these iconic yachts into the best possible condition for competition.” Making the trip to Newport from overseas are teams from the Northern Europe and Southern Europe Fleets.
