This festival traditional falls on the ninth day of the month of Chaitra in the Hindu Calen- dar and marks the end of the nine-day Chaitra-navratri cel- ebrations. At some places, the festival lasts the whole nine days of the Navratas. It is celebrated with elaborate bhajans, , and distribu- tion of Prasad after the puja and aarti. As always, Ekta Man- dir kept with their tradition of celebrating the festival on the day it falls and on April 1, 2012 held celebrations at the man- dir in Phoenix. In addition to celebrating with the traditional rituals, they also took special care to incorporate children into their celebrations – teach- ing them our heritage, history, and making them a part of the celebrations in a fun and edu- cational manner.

After his en- chanting evening concert, Jaswinder Singh came to the mandir as a visitor on April 8th and then hosted a spe- cial bhajan program at the mandir on April 11, 2012. He had the audience clapping to his soulful bhajans, which included traditional bhajans and aartis. While the entire evening was heartwarming, the most heartfelt composi- tion of the night, which you could clearly tell was also his personal favorite, was a composition by his father, Kuldip Singh, for the movie Ankush released in 1986. The lyr- ics that begin with “Itni Shakti hame de na daata mann ka vishwaas kamzor ho naa, Hum chale nek raaste pe humse bhuulkar bhii koi bhuul ho naa” and translated mean “Give me such strength oh Lord that the belief in my heart and mind shall not fall weak, I shall walk on the path of good and shall not commit a mistake even by accident” are a beautiful composition that both strengthen the mind and soul. It was an enchanting and soul-stirring evening and Jaswinder Singh’s kindness and dedication to such worthy, religious causes can be seen in this kind gesture. We wish him continued success as an artist and devotee.
