INTRODUCTION The economic model of ‘self-management’ in the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (henceforth Yugoslavia), which was instituted in the 1950s after conflict with the USSR and lasted until the 1990s (Praščević, 2019), was considered a ‘special case’ (Child & Czegledy, 1996), even though several Eastern European countries followed a similar pattern of economic and social development from the late 1960s.
