A few days before there occurred an incident at Alappuzha Railway Station, coming under Trivandrum Division in which a coach attached to a passenger train separated and broken into two parts while the train halted at the railway station. There were 8 passengers in the coach, and because of mere luck they saved themselves without any injury. In the latest event Amritha express from Trivandrum to Palghat derailed near Changanassery. These incidents point to the bad state of coaches attached to the trains running through Kerala. It is said that most of the coaches attached to passenger trains are even old by 25 years. Increasing of the interval period of maintenance of the coaches and the reduction of the number of staff engaged for checking and maintenance of coaches has also worsened the state of coaches. At present the two railway divisions in Kerala, ie. Palakkad and Trivandrum divisions depend on 3 workshops in Tamil Nadu for maintenance of coaches. There is no workshop at present in Kerala for the maintenance of 2500 coaches owned by Palakkad and Trivandrum divisions. It is very difficult to send the coaches to workshops in Tamil Nadu and to wait indefinitely for bringing it back after maintenance.

At the time of his demise, Shri Reddy was a sitting member of the Andhra Pradesh legislative Assembly. He was earlier also a member of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly during 1992 to 1996. Shri B.V.N. Reddy passed away on 12 March, 2017 in Nandyal, Andhra Pradesh at the age of 53. We deeply mourn the loss of Shri B.V.N. Ghani Khan Choudhury Introducing the Railway Budget for 1983-84, on 24 th February 1983 Mr. Speaker, Sir, I rise to present the Revised Estimates for 1982-83 and Budget Estimates for 1983-84 of the Indian Railways. Financial Results Of 1981-82 2. Before doing so, as is customary on such occasions, let me make a brief survey of the financial results of 1981-82. That year closed with a surplus of Rs. 46.59 crores, against Rs. 51.84 crores projected through the Revised Estimates, after meeting in full the current dividend liability of Rs. 356.47 crores to the General Revenues. Gross Traffic Receipts of Rs. 3538.24 crores corresponded closely to the revised estimate of Rs. 3541.80 crores, with a small shortfall of Rs. 3.56 crores. Notwithstanding the heavy post-budgetary increases in costs of inputs, the Ordinary working expenses were controlled at Rs. 18.91 crores above the Revised Estimates. The operating ratio at 89.4 per cent was almost the same as indicated in the Revised Estimates. Freight Operations 3. The House will appreciate the crucial role which Railways play as the basic infrastructural support for the growth of the economy and the disarray in which they had fallen during the couple of years preceding the advent of 1980 when the new Government came into power. More than 21 million people from varied culture & tradition and socio-economic conditions travel by the Indian Railways daily. The conspicuous growth in the Indian economy over the last two decades has increased demand for all transport services, specifically land transport through road and rail. This paper is based on a case study conducted to observe food facility available on the premium train of Indian Railways- —Duronto“ on an important tourism and pilgrim circuit of Jammu .ashmir connecting to ,ndia‘s capital-New Delhi. The findings of this paper highlight how Indian Railway & IRCTC are still lacking behind and not able to provide even basic catering services to the passengers. Today, it has one of the largest rail networks in the world with 65,808 km route kilometers of route length and 7,112 stations. It contributes a cheap and affordable means of transportation to millions of passengers, hence playing a dominant role in the social and the economic development of the country.
