2017 Keller Sweet Wines a Small Vintage with Unforgettable Wines 2017 Keller Sweet Wines A small vintage with unforgettable wines With the 2015’s, Keller won the best sweet AND best dry riesling of Germany (with 100/100 for each) in the 2017 Gault Millau. Two vintages later, 2017 is possibly even better for the sweet wines! Some of these wines are made in exceptionally tiny quantities, as little as 20 litres! Whilst many batches were only 60 litres in total! SMALLEST VINTAGE IN LIVING MEMORY DUE TO FROST & HAIL - KELLER IS DOWN 50-60%. PUT YOUR WISH-LIST IN NOW FOR BEST POSSIBLE CHANCE OF RECEIVING FULL ORDER. ORDERS WILL NOT BE NOT INVOICED UNTIL STOCK ARRIVES “A small but amazing, perfect vintage...I think that it has the raciness and minerality of 2004 with nobility of 2001 for the dry wines. The sweet wines have the purity and focused perfectly- shrivelled raisin character of 2015. There is more extract than there is in the 2016’s. For the sweet wines there is nearly no botrytis, but what is there is very “pure”, with many perfectly clean, dried raisins making the wines crystal clear, racy and noble. Focused, high acid styles for the long term, but with sexy fruit that also provides immediate pleasure.” - Klaus Peter Keller "Rieslings from the finest producers are stellar, with Keller as usual a standout."- Jancis Robinson, MW, Financial Times 2017 "The Keller’s always go to the limit when it comes to choosing quality over an easy life." - Julia Harding MW, JancisRobinson.com, 2017 "Keller is the face of a new Germany. His wines are precise, rousing and blasting conventions." - Antonio Galloni, Forbes Magazine 2017 "The wines of Keller are amongst the most sought after worldwide." - Fine Moselle wines, January 2018 “‘Genius’ of the world, 2017. Keller is the undisputed best supplier for German top-quality wines." - Gault Millau, 2017 "It is hard to believe what Keller creates, in a cellar each vintage." - Fine The Wine Magazine, December 2017 2017 Rieslaner Auslese 375ml From 60 year old vines: “A Keller Rieslaner Auslese 1971 was the wine my mother and father drank at their first date (my mother was also a young wine student) . My mother (who comes from Mosel and only knows Riesling) was so fascinated by the wine that she immediately fell in Love with Klaus (she did not tell him for sure!), and the Rieslaner variety. After their first meeting they went out twice, then my mother started a vintage in South Africa, Klaus flew after her to SA and only 3 weeks later they got married and my grandparents face turned pale when they both came back and Klaus said; “ let me introduce my wife Hedwig to you”. They must have looked very shocked, but this all can happen when you drink Rieslaner! “This 2017 Rieslaner Auslese is from a small vineyard that my father bought my mother as a Christmas gift in 1991. My mother was never been interested in jewels etc .... so her dream was to make a Rieslaner from old vines – and the vines at that time were 35yo already and produced fantastic quality. When in mid 90s our Rieslaner won in a blind tasting against Chateau d´Yquem, there was even a little Rieslaner hype. The fruit is a bit more exotic than Riesling (more mango, passionfruit, pineapple), racy acidity, very fresh, pure and with focused complex flavours.” - K.P. Keller 2017 Rieslaner Trockenbeerenauslese 375ml THE FOLLOWING WINES ARE AVAILABLE APPROX. OCTOBER THIS YEAR 2017 Nierstein Riesling Hipping Kabinett 750ml This steep red slate “Grand Cru” site often makes classic Kabinetts. In fact the 2016 was one of Keller’s “VDP auction wines” and it all sold for AUD $358 per bottle (inc. Au taxes)! Made from non-botrytis grapes, but so minerally, steely and bursting with tropical and citrus fruits. With a little sweetness, crisp finish and beautiful minerality, this is precision balanced perfection. 2017 Westhofen Riesling AbtsE Spatlese 8.5% alc 750ml A classic spätlese from this low yielding limestone rock site. 2017 Westhofen Riesling Auslese 8% alc 375ml This wine is from botrytised grapes grown in Morstein and AbtsE. A very mineral wine, chalky fruit, brilliant acidity, with a lot of beautiful botrytis sweetness with racy acidity and a lot of energy. “Like a butterfly it dances on your tongue and it’s not often we have a pure sweet wine with this level of botrytis and such high quality for this ‘restaurant pouring’ price.” - K.P. Keller 2017 Westhofen Kirchpiel Riesling Auslese 8% alc 750 ml Amazing value for a classic non-botrytis auslese. A great comparison to the wine above, less honey, less glycerol and more cirtrus. The same perfect passionfruit and mineral notes. 2017 Dalsheim Hubacker Riesling Auslese 8% alc 750 ml 2017 Westhofen AbtsE Riesling Auslese 8% alc 750 ml “In Jancis’ tasting of vintage 2017 this was one of her favourite wines. Such pure botrytis in good quantity at this price is not very often in our cellars." - K.P. Keller 2017 Nierstein Hipping Riesling Beerenauslese 7.5% alc 375ml 2017 Dalsheim Hubacker Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese GK 7.5% alc. 375ml 2017 Westhofen AbtsE Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese GK 7% alc. 375ml .

  • How to Buy Eiswein Dessert Wine
How to Buy Eiswein Dessert Wine Eiswein is a sweet dessert wine that originated in Germany. This "late harvest" wine is traditionally pressed from grapes that are harvested after they freeze on the vine. "Eiswein" literally means "ice wine," and is called so on some labels. If you want to buy eiswein, know the country and the method that produced the bottle to find the best available "ice wine" for your budget. Does this Spark an idea? Instructions 1. o 1 Locate a local wine store or look on line for wine sellers who carry eiswein. o 2 Look for a bottle that fits your price range. German and Austrian Eisweins, which follow established methods of harvest and production, are the European gold standard. However, many less expensive, but still excellent, ice wines come from Austria, New Zealand, Slovenia, Canada and the United States. Not all producers let grapes freeze naturally before harvesting them at night. This time-honored and labor-intensive method of production, as well as the loss of all but a few drops of juice, explains the higher price of traditionally produced ice wine. Some vintners pick the grapes and then artificially freeze them before pressing. Manage Cellar, Share Tasting Notes Free, powerful, and easy to use! o 3 Pick a colorful and fragrant bouquet. Eiswein is distinguished by the contrast between its fragrant sweetness and acidity. A great eiswein is both rich and fresh. Young eisweins have tropical fruit, peach or berry overtones. Older eisweins suggest caramel or honey. Colors can range from white to rose.

  • Bernkasteler Kurfürstlay Riesling Spätlese 2011 Region: Mosel, Germany
Bernkasteler Kurfürstlay Riesling Spätlese 2011 Region: Mosel, Germany Varietal: 100% Riesling Vineyard: This wine comes from the renowned vineyards of “Bernkasteler Kurfürstlay” in the middle Mo- sel Valley. In German, Kurfürstlay can be bro- ken down to kur (chosen), furst (Prince) and lay (slate) meaning that the vineyard site was the choice of a Prince’s. 2011 Vintage: We had an exceptional warm spring which was the reason for the earliest budding and grape bloom since notations of these dates! The con- sequence was a margin of vegetation of about 3 weeks. The summer was marked by rainy and constantly changing weather. Terrible hail on August 26th was again a reason for scepti- sicm and let us assume the worst. After all the great damage in the villages, the damage in the vineyards was comparatively low. After that, we had a beautiful late summer. At the end and apart from the hail, everything was perfect: an early budding and bloom and rain always at the right time! So we started harvest at the end of September. We had 4 weeks without any rain and this gave us some time to preharvest all of our Riesling vineyards and sort out the raisins from the bunches and the good from the best grapes. This was very time consuming in the 70% steep sloped parcels. Now the harvest is history and we have all quality levels, from Kabinett up to Trockenbeerenauslese. The wines were bottled at the beginning of May and show great promise. Flavor: Late harvested and hand-picked. Elegant and luscious wine with lively acidity, rich body and a lot of fruit.

Reviewed by Stephan Reinhardt, Issue Date 31th of January 2020, The Wine Advocate EVA FRICKE SCHLOSSBERG Riesling I Rating QbA 94P From party ungrafted vines that are at least 80 years old, the 2018 Lorcher Schlossberg Riesling is fascinatingly pure, fresh and flinty on the spicy, almost peppery and crunchy nose with its intense lemon, lime zest, herbal, radish, mustard and sweet fennel seed as well as floral notes. What lovey fruit concentration! Lush and generous on the palate, this is a beautifully intense and elegant, rich and persistently salty Riesling with a very long and linear finish. A great wine! 11.5% alcohol. Tasted from AP 8 19 in June 2019. EVA FRICKE SCHLOSSBERG Spätlese I Rating 94P The 2018 Lorcher Schlossberg Riesling Spätlese is coolish, precise and flinty on the more reductive and lime-scented nose than its Klosterberg sibling. Lush yet crystalline and salty-piquant on the palate, this is a generous, enormously lush and super sexy Spätlese with succulent fruit that covers your palate. There are 90 grams of residual sugar, but there is nothing left but gorgeously ripe Riesling fruit from rocky slate. A fabulous Spätlese bottled with 8% alcohol. Tasted from AP 9 19. You can drink it now, but don't be sad if there is nothing left in 20+ years. EVA FRICKE KLOSTERBERG Riesling I Rating Auslese 94P From 100% healthy but late-picked grapes (3rd week of October) Fricke's 2018 Kiedricher Klosterberg Riesling Auslese is precise and piquant on the nose, wonderfully concentrated, with lemon, grapefruit and woodruff aromas as well as super ripe white-seed fruit aromas.

RHEINGAU VDP.GUTSWEIN RIESLING KABINETT TROCKEN Weingut Robert Weil, founded 1875, is run today by Wilhelm Weil, the fourth generation of the founding family. The founder of the estate, Dr. Robert Weil, purchased his first vineyards on the Kiedricher Berg in 1867, at a time when he was still a German professor at the Sorbonne in Paris. With the approach of the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71, he was forced to leave France. He settled in Wiesbaden, where he worked as a journalist, and Kiedrich, where he expanded his vineyard holdings by acquiring the best sites on the Kiedricher Berg. Thanks to his unwavering commitment to quality-oriented viticulture, his foresight, and his willingness to invest in the estate, it developed quickly and its wines were soon celebrated in international circles. Spätlese and Auslese wines from Weingut Robert Weil graced the table of many European imperial and royal houses as the white counterparts of the Bordeaux reds. Today, the estate’s 90 ha (222 acres) of vineyards are planted 100% with Riesling. Throughout its history the estate has always focused on the Riesling grape and adhered to strict, quality-ori- ented practices in the vineyard – such as stringent pruning to control yields and selective harvesting by hand – and in the cellar, where the wines are vinified as gently as possible. This unwavering and uncompromising quality management is central to Weingut Robert Weil’s unbroken streak of producing wines at every Prädikat classification, up to and including Trockenbeerenauslese, for every vintage since 1989. The estate’s dedication to Riesling since 1875 has led numerous observers of the international wine world to regard Weingut Robert Weil, with its “château character”, as a worldwide symbol of German Riesling culture.
