The Exclusiveness of Privacy ANCIENT FARMHOUSE IN THE WOODS. THE EXCLUSIVENESS OF PRIVACY A villa with 7 hectares of land, all surrounded by further hundreds of hectares of forest: The castle of Celsa and the Villa Cetinale are nothing but the homes of your neighbors. Nature and history close to the wonderful city of Siena. Among the many fantastic farmhouses in the green hills of the province of Siena, this is certainly the most exclusive, not for luxury or refinement, but simply thanks to the nature that surrounds it and for the discretion that guarantees. Just looking at the satellite photos it’s clear how this property, surrounded by greenery, enjoys peace, intimacy, absolute privacy. But in spite of his intimacy, this location so reserved doesn’t means that property is far from everything. The characteristic villages of Ancaiano, Santa Colomba, Carpineto are less than 2 km away and are reachable in five minutes using good roads. The Municipality of Sovicille is less than 4 km away, the wonderful ancient village of Monteriggioni, or D'Else valley are only 9 km away. Also Siena is very close and can be reached in less than 20 minutes. The property borders Villa Cetinale, a magnificent residence whose baroque landscaped garden is one of the most important in Italy. It was built in 1670 by Cardinal Flavio Chigi and is now owned by an English parliamentarian of the House of Lords who after restoring it also allows the visit to the public. A little further there is the wonderful Celsa Castle, dating back to the thirteenth century, also rich in history, charm and secrets. The property for sale dates back to 1860, and consists of a large main villa of over 350 square meters of residential area on two levels and in a very good state of maintenance. There are 4 large rooms, a kitchen, two large and characteristic halls, as well as other additional spaces. Also in the main building there are a magnificent balcony, a large veranda, a cellar and a shed for agricultural tools. BALCONY FARMHOUSE There is also another building on two levels 120 square meters wide. It has a structure and roof totally renovated, and stonemade walls are very charming. This is currently used as a storage tool, but can easily be transformed into a second detached house. GARDEN Around we still have many surprises: a freshwater fish tank, a stone limonaia, a well, large paved spaces and other agricultural accessories for animals. Along with the villa are for sale about 2 hectares of olive grove with 600 olive trees in production, 3 hectares of lawn, orchard and vegetable garden, 2 hectares of forest and a small vineyard. In total 7 hectares of property well distributed. PROPRIETÀ The place is ideal for starting an agricultural or agritourism too, but certainly, for those who can afford it, is the most exclusive and charming farmhouse for whom is looking for nature and privacy. KITCHEN BEDROOM ROOMS LOUNGE AREA LOUNGE AREA ENTRANCE To the east of the wonderful and historic city of Siena, hills are covered with lush oaks and holm oaks: is the Montagnola Senese, an area of inestimable historical and natural value, otherwise officially recognized with SCI (Site of Community Interest) The Montagnola Senese is a concentration of castles, churches, hermitages and other architectural beauties that no one would imagine to meet. It is covered by extensive forests and vegetation of high natural value and landscape and offers refuge to countless vulnerable animal species, rare or even endangered. You can meet birds of prey such as the Biancone, the Kestrel and the Sparviero, amphibians such as the spotted Triton and the Italian crested Triton. These woods are the cradle and now they are the last refuge of an ancient swine race, the Cinta Senese, which still grazes in these woods nourishing of acorns. South of the Alto Merse Nature Reserve But the particular shape of the territory means that in this area you can also admire phenomena of karst origin such as caves, sinkholes and canyons The territory of Sovicille has preserved the original beauty of its landscape. To the south, where the Merse River is crossed, there is the Nature Reserve of Alto Merse, which protects the rich and varied terrestrial and fluvial fauna. In the Middle Ages, Sovicille was a borderland, animated first by the disputes between the bishopric of Siena and that of Volterra and then by the conflict between the Sienese State and the noble family of Ardengheschi, whose domains extended from Maremma to a few miles from Siena. The economic prosperity it enjoyed at the time is evidenced by the large number of medieval settlements that survive there: castles, villages, churches, farms, farmhouses now isolated, but once part of a village. The historic center of Sovicille is placed on a relief at the foot of the Montagnola and is enclosed by a fifteenth- century circle of walls, in the twelfth century was also the seat of a castle owned by the bishop of Siena. A short distance away is the ancient Pieve di Ponte allo Spino, one of the most interesting rural churches of the Romanesque age in Tuscany: in the courtyard next to it, The remains of a thirteenth-century cloister and the Sienese-style mullioned windows of a building in which the bishops spent their holiday are still visible. Also to visit, the Ethnographic Museum of the forest of Orgia, dedicated to the theme of the forest as an environment and resource in the economy and sharecropping life. Siena is located in the heart of Tuscany and surrounded by hills, is one of the most beautiful medieval cities in Italy. It still represents the model of medieval city and for this reason it was included, in 1995, in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The heart of the city is the famous Piazza del Campo, with its particular shell shape, in which is held the famous Palio di Siena, a passionate horse race that takes place every year whose origins date back to the seventeenth century. According to legend, Siena was founded by Senio, son of Remo, founder with his brother Romolo, of Rome itself. In 1287 the Government of the Nine brought the city to a unique splendour and magnificence. The Palazzo Pubblico, the Torre del Mangia, the Duomo are just some of the many examples WEFINDPROPERTIESINITALY.COM In Italy there is everything, and everything in Italy is more fascinating than elsewhere! • Val D'orcia 1
VAL D’ORCIA Sweet round-shaped hills, changing colour according to the season, low valleys along the Orcia river, parish churches and restored farms here and there, often hiding in a forest of cypresses. Such are the characteristics making the charm of Val d’Orcia incomparable, an extraordinary synthesis between nature, art and deeply rooted traditions. This beautiful area of Tuscany is under the authority of the Val d’Orcia Park, instituted to maintain and develop the heritage of a region to promote its typical produce. The fertile countryside of Val d’Orcia, cultivated with respect and wisdom, produces excellent wines, olive oil and high quality cereals. The landscape is deeply marked by man’s intervention aiming to enrich the natural beauty with sobre religious and civilian works of art. It is difficult to explain with words the serene charm emanating from the lands of Val d’Orcia in the spring, when the hills turn green, in the summer when the yellow colour of sunflowers and wheat fields dominates the area, in the beautiful fragrance of a variety of plants. In the south of Bagno Vignoni, olive groves, vineyards and cultivated fields are replaced by a Mediterranean bushland while in the Mount Amiata area opens out a thick forest of chestnut and beech groves. Mother Nature, especially generous with the Val d’Orcia’s people, did not forget to create thermal springs for rest and care. The Via Francigena goes through Val d'Orcia near the small village of Bagno Vignoni, visited by famous people and pilgrims. Already inhabited in the Etruscan period, the Val d’Orcia keeps architectural vestiges from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.

  • SWE PIEDMONT Vs TUSCANY BACKGROUNDER
SWE PIEDMONT vs TUSCANY BACKGROUNDER ITALY Italy is a spirited, thriving, ancient enigma that unveils, yet hides, many faces. Invading Phoenicians, Greeks, Cathaginians, as well as native Etruscans and Romans left their imprints as did the Saracens, Visigoths, Normans, Austrian and Germans who succeeded them. As one of the world's top industrial nations, Italy offers a unique marriage of past and present, tradition blended with modern technology -- as exemplified by the Banfi winery and vineyard estate in Montalcino. Italy is 760 miles long and approximately 100 miles wide (150 at its widest point), an area of 116,303 square miles -- the combined area of Georgia and Florida. It is subdivided into 20 regions, and inhabited by more than 60 million people. Italy's climate is temperate, as it is surrounded on three sides by the sea, and protected from icy northern winds by the majestic sweep of alpine ranges. Winters are fairly mild, and summers are pleasant and enjoyable. NORTHWESTERN ITALY The northwest sector of Italy includes the greater part of the arc of the Alps and Apennines, from which the land slopes toward the Po River. The area is divided into five regions: Valle d'Aosta, Piedmont, Liguria, Lombardy and Emilia-Romagna. Like the topography, soil and climate, the types of wine produced in these areas vary considerably from one region to another. This part of Italy is extremely prosperous, since it includes the so-called industrial triangle, made up of the cities of Milan, Turin and Genoa, as well as the rich agricultural lands of the Po River and its tributaries.

MAPPING NATURAL TERROIR UNITS USING A MULTIVARIATE APPROACH AND LEGACY DATA Simone Prioria*, Roberto Barbettia, Giovanni L’Abatea, Pierluigi Bucellia, Paolo Storchib, Edoardo A.C. Costantinia a Consiglio per la Ricerca e la Sperimentazione in Agricoltura, CRA-ABP, Research Center of Agrobiology and Pedology, Firenze, Italy. / b Consiglio per la Ricerca e la Sperimentazione in Agricoltura, CRA-VIC, Research Unit of Viticulture, Arezzo, Italy. *Corresponding author: Priori. E-mail: [email protected] Abstract This work aimed at setting up a multivariate and geostatistical methodology to map natural terroir units of the viticultural areas at the province scale (1:125,000). The methodology was based upon the creation of a GIS storing all the viticultural and oenological legacy data of experimental vineyards (1989-2009), the long term climate data, the digital elevation model, the soilscapes (land systems) and the legacy data of the soil profiles. The environmental parameters related to viticulture, selected by an explorative PCA, were: elevation, mean annual temperature, mean soil temperature, annual precipitation, clay, sand and gravel content of soils, soil water availability, redoximorphic features and rooting depth. The selected variables, spatialized by means of geostatistical methods, were used for a k-means clustering aimed to map the Natural Terroir Units (NTU). The vineyard of the province of Siena was subdivided into 9 NTU. Both the historical DOCG (Chianti Classico, Brunello di Montalcino and Nobile di Montepulciano) and the others DOC were mainly characterized by three or four NTU, whereas the wider Chianti and Chianti Colli senesi DOCG was mainly constituted by seven NTU. Keywords: GIS, kriging, PCA, clustering, soils, Sangiovese, wine, Tuscany, Italy.

The Commission reserves specifically its rights to apply for patents or to obtain other protection for matter open intellectual or industrial protection. iii Technical Note Identifying and Obtaining Soil for Metal-Detector Testing Tom Bloodworth, Antonio Logreco (JRC Ispra/IPSC/SERAC Unit) August 2004 Abstract Metal detectors are basic tools used in humanitarian demining throughout the world. Because of the importance of these instruments, a document has been produced with broad international support that standardizes the testing of metal detectors.
