He was President of the Assembly of Serbian People in Bosnia and Herzegovina ("Bosnian Serb Assembly") from 24 October 1991 until at least November 1995. He was a member of the National Security Council of the Bosnian Serb Republic and from the beginning of June 1992 until 17 December 1992, he was a member of the expanded Presidency of the Bosnian Serb Republic. 2. Biljana PLAVSIC, daughter of Svetislav, was born on 7 July 1930 in Tuzla, Tuzla municipality, Bosnia and Herzegovina. She was a leading member of the SDS from the period of its establishment in Bosnia and Herzegovina.     Seismic strengthening of historical stone masonry structures in Bosnia Herzegovina M. Hrasnica & S. Medic Faculty of Civil Engineering University of Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina SUMMARY: Bosnia Herzegovina is situated in a seismically active region of south-eastern Europe where peak ground accelerations could reach 0.30-0.35 g. Robust and durable stone masonry buildings, which constitute an important part of cultural heritage, can be very vulnerable to earthquake motion. Design and construction procedures for rehabilitation and strengthening of two mosques dating from the Ottoman period are presented. The analyzed structures were heavily damaged in the 1969 earthquake, renovated afterwards and then completely blasted in 1993 during war time. Traditional and contemporary materials were used for retrofit of all bearing elements comprising domes, drums, squinches, pendentives, arches, walls, minarets and foundations. In the course of reconstruction, special attention was paid to seismic requirements of slender minarets susceptible to lateral loads. Static and response spectrum analysis were performed using beam, solid and shell finite elements. The challenge for structural engineer was to find equilibrium between aesthetical and structural demands. Keywords: stone masonry, seismic strengthening, historical buildings 1. INTRODUCTION Earthquakes can be considered to be some of the most dangerous phenomena occurring in nature. The risk of destroying life and material assets in some parts of the world is very high, and special care has to be paid to adequate earthquake resistant design. In this paper we focus on historical buildings belonging to national cultural heritage of Bosnia and Herzegovina made of robust and durable stone masonry. The country is situated in a seismically active region of South-East Europe and it is divided in seismic zones with peak ground acceleration PGA ranging from 0.1–0.2 g for 475 years return period (zone VII – VIII according to MCS or EMS-98 scale) in the most parts of the country to PGA of 0.30-0.35 g (approx.

    1 Report on Anti-Muslim hatred and Discrimination for 2019 By the Commission for Freedom of Religion of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina Introduction Bosnia and Herzegovina generally has a sound legal basis for the protection of the human rights and elimination of discrimination. However, difficulties arise in the application of laws, often due to lack of harmonization or complex state setup and its structure, as well as due to lack of awareness and knowledge of legal options as well as sometimes quite specific religious needs. Nevertheless, the Commission warns against inappropriate iconography, festivities, celebrations and other discriminatory content in public sectors and institutions, especially in Republika Srpska. It was noticed that excessive, inappropriate presence of iconography in public sectors and institutions puts members of other religious beliefs into an unfavorable and discriminatory position. Patron saint celebrations (krsna slava), religious ritual programs in which Muslims are also subjected to, endangers their right to freedom of religion and beliefs, and this is especially visible in public schools. A large number of cities and municipalities in the RS celebrate one Orthodox holiday as a municipal day. These days are celebrated as public holidays. An Orthodox religious holiday, Savior's Day (Spasovdan) is the patron saint of the city of Banja Luka. This holiday is celebrated by the city of Banja Luka together with the Serbian Orthodox Church every year on June 6. The celebration begins with the performance of the holy religious liturgy and is usually part of a wider event organized by the city of Banja Luka called "Spring in Banja Luka".1 The patron saint of Zvornik is Saint Paraskeva (Sveta Petka Trnova), who is considered the protector of the city.

Riedlmayer (Harvard University) Barely a decade ago, in March 1992, the people of Bosnia voted for independence. In a national plebiscite, with close to two thirds of the electorate participating, voters cast their ballots almost unanimously in favor of an independent, democratic, and pluralistic Bosnia. As Bosnia's National Assembly met in the capital city of Sarajevo after the vote, more than 100,000 citizens­­­Muslims, Christians, and others­­­rallied in front of the Parliament building, holding signs and shouting in unison: "Mi smo za mir!"­­­"We are for peace!" The shouts for peace were silenced by gunshots, as Serb nationalist gunmen, concealed on the upper floors of the Holiday Inn across the street, opened fire on the crowd, killing and wounding dozens of people as they ran for cover. The date was 6 April, 1992. In the days and months that followed, the Serb­led Yugoslav People’s Army systematically bombarded Sarajevo from prepared positions on the mountains overlooking the city. Snipers with telescopic sights picked off civilians as they ran down the streets of the capital in search of food, water and shelter. [1] Thus began the assault on Bosnia­Herzegovina. From the beginning, it was characterized by two features that had little to do with legitimate military objectives: The mass expulsion of civilians driven from their homes, robbed, raped and murdered for being of the "wrong" ethnicity and religion, and The deliberate targeting and destruction of cultural, religious and historic landmarks by nationalist extremists.
