Summary Dymchurch, St Mary’s Bay and Romney Sands are popular destinations along the Shepway coastline for holidaymakers and day-trippers. Their attractive beaches, holiday parks and various other attractions have drawn in visitors and holidaymakers for a number of years and continue to do so today. The history of these areas is largely linked to the complex natural history of the Romney Marsh and the reclamation of land from the sea that has occurred over a number of centuries. The Romney Marsh today is now rich in heritage and natural biodiversity that constitutes a distinctive local landscape. The growth in seaside tourism and leisure time during the nineteenth century resulted in a rise in coastal resort towns along the Shepway coastline and by the twentieth century Dymchurch, St Mary’s Bay and Romney Sands all had popular holiday camps that were easily accessible by the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway that was opened in 1927. All of these areas continue today as popular seaside destinations and boast attractive beaches as well as a number of valuable heritage assets that relate to its history of smuggling, farming and defence of the coast. -

The project is located on the San Bernardino National Forest (SBNF) surrounding the community of Angelus Oaks, in San Bernardino County, California. The proposed treatments are designed to maintain the effectiveness of the fuel reduction treatments developed during the Angelus Oaks Community Defense Project of 2004 and to protect Angelus Oaks and the surrounding areas from wildfire. Proposed treatments would be accomplished through a combination of manual and prescribed fire (pile and broadcast burning with hand-firing methods) treatments to maintain and remove understory hazardous fuels. Non-native Spanish broom will also be removed using mechanical removal and cut-and-daub application method of glyphosate herbicide. Design Criteria are proposed as needed, to minimize impacts to wildlife and other resources. -

A further recording dated 16th October 1996 is also included towards the end of this transcript. Roy Fowler suggests this was as a result of his regular lunches with Roy Ward Baker, at which they decided that some matters covered needed further detail. [DS 2017] Interviewer Roy Fowler [RF]. This transcript is not verbatim. SIDE 1 TAPE 1 RF: When and where were you born? RWB: London in 1916 in Hornsey. RF: Did your family have any connection with the business you ultimately entered? RWB: None whatsoever, no history of it in the family. RF: Was it an ambition on your part or was it an accidental entry eventually into films? How did you come into the business? RWB: I was fairly lucky in that I knew exactly what I wanted to do or at least I thought I did. At the age of something like fourteen I’d had rather a chequered upbringing in an educa- tional sense and lived in a lot of different places. I had been taken to see silent movies when I was a child It was obviously premature because usually I was carried out in scream- ing hysterics. There was one famous one called The Chess Player which was very dramatic and German and all that. I had no feeling for films. I had seen one or two Charlie Chaplin films which people showed at children's parties in those days on a 16mm projector. -
