Workshop List 2021 Welcome to our 2021 workshop list. The classes and workshops in this list have been graded for experience level as fol- lows:  No previous quilting experience  Familiar with basic techniques and terminology  Have attended several quilting classes/workshops Summer Sale Thurs 19th - Sat 21st August 9:30am - 4pm Double points days Come in on these dates and everything you purchase will earn you double points on your privilege card. Workshops Weds 27th and Thurs 28th Jan 10am - 4pm £50 Easy layer cake with Sarah Soward 

Join Sarah in making a quilt using a layer cake with 40 x 10” squares. Super easy and fun to make.

Sat 30th Jan 10am - 4pm £35 Xmas wreath with Sarah Soward  So let’s talk about Christmas in January. We are going to make this easy but very effective wreath quilt. Maybe a wreath is not just for Christmas? Friday 26th Feb 10am - 4pm £30 Jelly roll bag with Sarah Soward  This bag is a total must have now we are trying to not use carrier bags. From your jelly roll you will be able to make 3 bags, the bags are big enough to take a board, cutter, ruler if you would like to use them for workshops. Thurs 11th Mar 10am - 4pm £35 Curved flower cushion/wall hanging  with Sarah Soward This simple way of curved piecing will get you hooked and also make your friends think you are very clever with curves. Sat 13th and Sun 14th Mar 10am - 4pm £60 Tilda fun with Sarah Soward  Squares, triangles, strips and a little planning is what’s required to make this optical illusion quilt. Use fat 1/4s from your stash or pick a range that all tone together. Not suitable for beginners, rotary cutting and machine piecing.

Sat 20th Mar 10am - 4pm £35 Sewing mat with Terry Summerfield  Add some colour to your sewing room or sewing space by using a favourite charm pack to make this sewing machine mat. Mat can be sized to fit most machines, has useful storage pockets and is non slip. We may also get to sew some coordinating accessories if time allows.

Tues 23rd Mar 10am - 4pm £35 Beginners cushion with Sarah Soward  Ever wanted to give patchwork ago, well don’t be afraid come and join us to make a simple but very affective patchwork cushion. Tues 30th Mar 9.30-12.30 or 1-4 £20 Corded coasters with Sarah Soward 

A little something for you to make that will give your table a unique look, also very easy to make for gifts. Using some cord and fabric let’s twist away under the sewing machine until you have the size you wish. Fri 9th Apr 10am - 4pm £40 Notebook cover with Sarah Soward  We will be using decorative stitches on your machine as well as some hand stitching to make a cover for a note book. You won’t finish all the hand stitching on the day but will have instructions on how to com-

plete the cover at home. You will be amazed at the results and will want to give them as gifts, if you can bear to part with them.

Thurs 22nd Apr 10am - 4pm £35 Sashiko cushion with Sarah Soward  Enjoy hand sewing while making this stunning form of quilting. You will be able to use stencils that will allow you to design your own cushion. Saturday 24th Apr 10am - 4pm £40 Get to know your sewing machine with Sarah Soward Scared of your machine? not sure how to use some of the feet? Then this is for you! I will cover machine appliqué and quilting along with the pre-programmed stitches on your machine Mon 24th May 10am - 4pm £35 Sashiko cushion with Sarah Soward 

Enjoy hand sewing while making this stunning form of quilting. You will be able to use stencils that will allow you to design your own cushion.

Friday 28th May 10am - 4pm £75 Orange peel with Gillian Travis 

Price includes £15 for all size plastic templates

This course is for quilters who like the appearance of orange peel quilts but find making it in the traditional way too difficult. This is an alternative method.

Saturday 29th May 10am - 4pm £60 Improv with Gillian Travis 

On this course I will teach a few quick and easy innovative methods using rotary cutters. Choosing the colours and using fabulous mod- ern looking fabrics available is the key to success. It is unlikely that students will get to the quilting stage as just making the top will proba- bly take all day. The finished pieces can be used to make quilts, wall hangings or many other items.

Sun 30th May 10am - 4pm £68 Indian glam and bling with Gillian Travis  Price includes £8 for kit Using beautiful brightly coloured sari silk strips, ribbons, embroidered braids and some sparkly sequins and we are almost guaranteed a good day. Use the above (all provided in a kit) to weave, and layer, adding machine stitching to make a richly decorated fabric that could be made into bags or book covers. The weaving is easy to do, (made easier with the use of steam a seam), and makes a very rich new fabric which is further enhanced with sequins, braids and machine stitch. Saturday 5th June 10am - 4pm £40 Free motion machine day with Sarah Soward  So you have the basics and you want to improve on your machine skills. We will be working very hard on our free motion skills, as well as machine appliqué. It will be like doodling with your sewing machine. Monday 28th June 11am - 3pm £17 Binding fun day with Sarah Soward  This is going to be a fun day for you to try out different types of binding, so that your masterpiece will have that special finish.

Fri 2nd and Sat 3rd July 10am - 4pm £60 Strips galore with Sarah Soward  There will be 3 different quilts to choose from. The first one is made with 1 jelly roll and then a background fabric. The other two use 2 jelly rolls (one white on white and one patterned) so the choice is yours. All 3 quilts are made in the same way so if you are unsure which one to choose, you can wait until the day to make your deci- sion. You can make the blocks in different ways to get a different quilt. Requires machine piecing and rotary cutting.

Thurs 8th - Sun 11th July 10am - 4pm £65 Bargello goes large with Sarah Soward  This Bargello is for people that have already done Bargello with us before. It’s 4 days of cutting and sewing and when finished, your Bargello will measure a whopping 98” square. And boy will it look fabulous. Definitely NOT suitable for beginners. Thurs 15th and Fri 16th July 10am - 4pm £60 or Thursday 22nd and Friday 23rd July Bargello with Sarah Soward  Bargello is amazing. It’s truly addictive and I feel that it should come with a health warning. If you haven’t done Bargello before then we start with an easy wave pattern to get you into it. If you have done Bargello with us before then you can move onto the Heart Bargello.

Sat 24th and Sun 25th July 10am - 4pm £60 Charming layer cake with Terry Summerfield  This can be made in 2 sizes, single bed size or cot quilt size, easily adaptable to make cushions as well. Take a layer cake and a charm pack, cleverly stitch them, grab your rotary cutter and see what hap- pens. The cot quilt uses a charm pack and a mini charm pack. Mon 26th July 10am - 4pm £35 Scrappy happy days with Sarah Soward  Raid that fabric stash or buy new, if you prefer. You will need to do cutting before the class. This pattern is very simple, however it looks way more difficult. Thurs 5th and Fri 6th Aug 10am - 4pm £60 Fake Bargello with Sarah Soward  Fat quarters and background, a fake Bargello is what you get. It’s so easy. Sat 4th and Sun 5th Sept 10am - 4pm £50 Jelly roll tree with Sarah Soward  Let me show you how to make a Tree using a Jelly Roll and background fabric. This quilt will look good on any wall or sofa. Sunday 7th Nov 10am - 4pm £65 Sunset colour with Pat Archibald 

Colour is often a stumbling block for many quilters. Bring a picture of your favourite sunset and we will evaluate, explore and use the colours in different ways to produce a dynamic abstract piece of work full of at- mosphere and colourful energy. At the end of the workshop students will have a greater understanding of the main types of colour schemes; complementary, analogous and triadic, and how to use these to effect in their work.

Mon 22nd Nov 11am - 3pm £17 Fabric postcards with Sarah Soward  Create postcards, labels or gift tags. All you need is a little imagina- tion and I will give you plenty of ideas. A great way to create small works of art using up the fabric scraps, embellishments and threads you have in your stash. Machine needed.

Thurs 25th Nov 10am - 4pm £40 Notebook cover with Sarah Soward  We will be using decorative stitches on your machine as well as some hand stitching to make a cover for a note book. Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th 10am - 4pm £60 Carpenters star with Terry Summerfield  This is a pre-cut perfect workshop, can be made in 2 sizes so if you have enough bed Quilts you can make a wall hanging. Uses either a layer cake for the bed quilt or a charm pack for the wall hanging.

Tuesday 9.30am - 12.30pm £60 Block Fun with Sarah Soward  20th Apr 25th May 29th June 20th July 24th Aug 28th Sept 12th Oct If you are an absolute beginner and fancy doing a bit of patchwork then this is the class for you. You get to make different blocks and piece them together by hand or machine. Learn to quilt the blocks then make and put on the binding. Tuesday 1pm - 4pm £75 Stained glass sampler with Sarah Soward  9th Mar 20th Apr 25th May 29th June 20th July 24th Aug 28th Sept 12th Oct 23rd Nov Completely stunning and amazing to make, this foundation pieced stained glass quilt would look awesome on a wall as well as a bed. Machine pieced and rotary cutting. Tuesday 9.30am - 12.30pm £65 Princess quilt with Sarah Soward  Another great chance to make this princess quilt. It's ‘Quilt as you go’ so you are never working on a larger piece until you start joining it together. Lots of different techniques from foundation piecing to bonded appliqué and pieced blocks. Hand and machine sewing 4th May No June 6th July 3rd Aug 14th Sept No Oct 9th Nov No Dec 11th Jan 22 8th Feb 22 If you are an absolute beginner and fancy doing a bit of patchwork

Tuesday 1pm - 4pm £75 Wild Animals with Sarah Soward  4th May No June 6th July 3rd Aug 14th Sept No Oct 9th Nov 11th Jan 22 8th Feb 22 Make this great wild animal quilt. This quilt is based on an Elizabeth Hartman quilt pattern. Included in the workshop is the complete rotary cutter instructions by Elizabeth Hartman as well as foundation pieced patterns to make each block. You are given the choice of method you would like to choose. Wednesday 9.30am - 12.30pm £60 Japanese with Sarah Soward  7th Apr 5th May 23rd June 14th July 11th Aug 15th Sept No Oct 10th Nov This is a ‘quilt as you go’ quilt, so is made in small pieces and then joined together later. This quilt includes fans, dragons, folded flowers and wind socks in an array of techniques. For all skill levels. Can be done by hand or machine. Wednesday 9.30am - 12.30pm or 1pm - 4pm £60 Wait and see with Sarah Soward  21st Apr 26th May 30th June 21st July 25th Aug 29thSept 13th Oct And now for something completely different. With this quilt you will not see the finished quilt until month 5, scary I know. You will be given a list of requirements and this will tell you the sort of fabric that is needed for this workshop .... like light, darks, pattern fabrics and so on..... each month there will be so many blocks to make and piece together. However, you still will not know what the finished quilt will look like.

No matter how much you plead with me, I won’t tell you until month 5...... dare you join the class? Thursday 9.30am - 12.30pm £95 Sashiko quilt with Sarah Soward  8th Apr 6th May 3rd June 1st July No Aug 2nd Sept 14th Oct 11th Nov Make this fabulous Sashiko quilt all stitched by hand. Included in the workshop are all the plastic stencils and a marking pencil required to make this quilt. All you will need is the fabric and the time. Thursday 1pm - 4pm £60 Monsters quilt with Sarah Soward  8th Apr 6th May 3rd June 1st July No Aug 2nd Sept 14th Oct 11th Nov This is a great quilt for any small child, boy or girl or that little mon- ster you have. Use all your crazy fabrics for these wonderful little monsters. Must be able to use a rotary cutter and a sewing machine.

Booking Due to the popularity of our classes and workshops, we ask you for a £10 non-refundable/ non-transferable deposit to secure your place on each class or workshop. Provisional bookings must be paid within 5 days. Full payment must be made 6 weeks prior to the class or workshop commencing. FAIL- URE TO PAY WILL RESULT IN THE LOSS OF YOUR PLACE. We can accept the full payment for class or workshop by credit or debit card. Sewing machine hire Sewing machines are available for hire at a charge of £5 per day. If you need to hire a machine please request one when you book the workshop as only a limited number of machines are available. Thread is not provided. Cancellation If you are unable to attend, please let us know as soon as possible. If you cancel 2 weeks or less before the class or workshop then no money will be refunded. If your cancellation is before the 2 weeks then a refund will be given less the £10 deposit. Please note Children aged 13 and over are able to attend any classes or workshops. Children aged 8 to 12 may attend children's workshops provided they are accompanied by an adult.

It is helpful if you bring your manual, a spare needle and the relevant feet, to any workshops where a sewing machine is required. If you book and pay for a class or workshop but do not attend, then you lose the rights to the pattern for that class or workshop. This does not apply if you miss one due to holiday or illness. Tea, coffee and afternoon cakes are supplied on all workshops. For lunch there are a range of cafés and eating places within easy reach. There is also a Waitrose supermarket nearby. Scrappy Quilt 26th July

If you are interested in having your quilt long armed, please contact us. The first table (on the next page) shows the guide price for long arm quilting with one of our standard patterns. The actual price for quilting may vary by up to £20 dependant on several factors, the most im- portant of which is the complexity of the pattern chosen and the actual dimension of your quilt. The cost of a bespoke pattern, if requested, will be discussed and agreed in advance of quilting. The second table shows the cost of the binding service. This includes making the binding, from your fabric, and attaching the binding to the front of the quilt by machine. The third table shows the cost of hand stitching the binding to the back of the quilt. There is usually a 4-6 week lead time between booking your quilt and the quilt being finished. You cannot book a quilt in before the quilt top is finished. If you are in a hurry for your quilt, we can offer a 2 week lead time, which is offered at the managements discretion. There will however be an additional £50 charge for this service.

We can also supply wadding and extra wide fabrics.
