The Structural Geology of North Hadeland
The structural geology of north Hadeland CHRISTOPHER KEITH MORLEY Morley, C. K.: The structural geology of north Hadeland. Norsk Geologisk Tidsskrift, Vol. 67, pp. 39- 49. Oslo 1987. ISSN 0029-1%X. The Cambro-Middle Ordovician sequence of north Hadeland is deformed by numerous, hinterland dipping imbricate faults. The imbricates fan off a low-angle detachment that separates deformed Lower Palaeozoic rocks from undeformed Precambrian basement and a thin veneer of Cambrian shales. Deformation evolved by an early layer-parallel shortening event indicated by thrust-wedging and pressure dissolution cleavage followed by the main imbrication and folding event. A balanced cross-section through north Hadeland shows an estimated shortening of 60% in a NNW-SSE direction. The deformation style in north Hadeland contrasts sharply with broad folds in Middle Ordovician-Silurian rocks in south Hadeland. Hence a bed-parallel detachment in Middle Ordovician shales between the two areas needs to be inferred. C. K. Morley, Amoco Production Company, Africa and Middle EastRegion, P. O. Box 3092, 501 West/ake Park Boulevard, Houston, Texas 77079, USA. The Hadeland area is situated in the Oslo region or sedimentary overburden on the Osen-Røa where Cambrian to Silurian age sedimentary thrust sheet, i.e. 3-6 km depth. rocks have been folded and thrusted above a Deformation post-dates deposition of the Rin Jura-type detachment horizon (Strand 1960). The gerike Sandstone (Wenlock-Downtonian?), but detachment is actually the Osen-Røa thrust which pre-dates deposition of sediments of Carbon was ramped through the late Precambrian clastics iferous age (Asker Group) in the Asker-Baerum of the Sparagmite region in the Mjøsa area to the area. -

The two upper sub-zones of the Lower Didymograptus Beds (3 b) appear in limestone-trilobite facies at Heramb, Ringsaker, Nor way. The layers at Heramb correspond to the Planilim:bata Limestone, or part of it, and the beds are correlated with corresponding deposits elsewhere in Scandinavia. The 3 b sediments are deposited in a more or less closed basin on the Scandinavian Foreland. In this basin the different facies of the 3 b sediments have a dtstinct distl'libution. The trilobites from the upper sub zones of 3 b at Heramb are described, among them three new trilobite species: Megalaspis Tingsakerensis sp. n. Ptychopyge herambensis sp. n. mi-noT sp. n. Prior to the War of 1812, an Indian runner was dispatched with a war belt of wampum with a request for the Dakotas and Chippewas to meet at the big bend of the Wisconsin River (Portage). While camped on the banks of the Lemonweir, the runner dreamed that he had lost his belt of wampum at his last sleeping place. On waking in the morning, he found his dream to be a reality and he hastened back to retrieve the belt. During the 1820's, the French-Canadian fur traders called the river, La memoire - the memory. The Lemonweir rises in the extensive swamps and marshes in Monroe County. -

DOVRE On historic paths among wild reindeer and alpine plants 2° 3° Dovre National Park Dovre National Park A sense of history over the National Park The Dovre National Park consists of plateaus and hiker-friendly, rounded summits that reach 1700 metres. Most of the park is above the tree line. The landscape around the highest peaks has an arctic character with remnants of permafrost. The park boasts numerous alpine plants, both common and rarer ones. The bird life is also varied and rich. The park is part of a larger area where wild reindeer roam. For some years, the reindeer have been used as an environmental indicator of the current state of the Norwegian mountains. ”United and loyal until the mountains of Dovre crumble”, the constitutional assembly at Eidsvoll declared in 1814. The expression alludes to some thing unshakeable, and symbolises unity and concord. Dovre and Dovrefjell holds a key posi- tion as a national rallying point and a mark of ultra-Norwegianism. Several famous poets and musicians, like Henrik Ibsen, Edvard Grieg and Aasmund Olavsson Vinje, have derived inspiration from this area. Henrik Ibsen’s ”Peer Gynt” with Edvard Grieg’s incidental music to the Hall of the Mountain King has made the massif a symbol famed far beyond the boundaries of Norway. Guided Tours
Guided Tours The History of Maihaugen Anders Sandvig, the founder of Maihaugen, came to Lillehammer as a young dentist in 1885. He had contracted a serious lung disease and thought he only had a few months left to live. The climate in the town was considered to be good for people with lung disease and he gradually recovered completely. He died in 1950 at the age of 88. As a dentist, Sandvig was responsible for all of Gudbrandsdalen. On his travels, he began to collect objects from the old farming culture that was in the process of disappearing. Nordiska Museet in Stockholm was buying old objects in Gudbrandsdalen at this time. Sandvig thought it was important for the old objects not to disappear from Norway. He not only collected precious, special objects. Everyday objects were just as interesting. He also bought old buildings and reerected them in his own garden in the centre of Lillehammer. This gave him the space to exhibit the objects. The collection was moved to Maihaugen in 1904. Today the museum has nearly 200 historical buildings in three departments: Bygda – a village in Gudbrandsdalen from the 18th-19th centuries Byen - Lillehammer in the early 20th century Boligfeltet – homes from nearly every decade of the 20th century Garmo Stave Church The church was traditionally the village's meeting place, for services and for gatherings in front of it. Torgeir Gamle built the church on Garmo farm in Lom in return for King Olav Haraldsson, later called Olav den Hellige (Olav the Holy), giving him the Tesse fishing lake.
