MEMORANDUM Memo. 16-136 TO: Trustees Student Trustees FROM: Jennifer Adams, Director of Education and Secretary of the Board Michael Carson, Chief Financial Officer DATE: 24 June 2016 RE: Student Accommodation Planning Multi-year Plan In response to questions raised by trustees at the 7 June 2016 Committee of the Whole (COW), the following information is provided: Revised Multi-Year Timeline In response to a question regarding phase II of the east review and what elementary schools should be included on the timeline chart, the revised chart is attached with phase II timing to be determined. Centretown Review Boundaries Staff were asked to respond to the scope of the Centretown review area. Although it cannot be said with absolute certainly what schools and areas will be involved, staff believe the following list of areas and schools is a reasonable assumption. The Centretown study would likely include a geography that roughly follows: the Ottawa river to the north; the Rideau River to the east; and Bronson Avenue to the West. Encompassing the following neighbourhoods and schools at a minimum: Lowertown-York Street PS; Sandy Hill - Viscount Alexander PS; Old Ottawa East - Lady Evelyn Alt; Centretown - Elgin Street PS, Centennial PS, Glashan PS, and Richard Phaff Secondary Alternative Program; Glebe - Mutchmor PS and First Avenue PS; and Old Ottawa South - Hopewell PS. School located on the periphery of the above noted areas may also be included for example Cambridge P.S., which is located just west of Bronson Ave and Rockliffe Memo No. 16-136 Information Regarding the Accommodation Review Multi-year Plan Page 1 ParkP.S., which provides the Early French Immersion program for students residing in Lowertown. As noted in the multi-year timeline, it is estimated that the launch of the Centretown review will occur in September 2018. This launch represents the culmination of a great deal of ongoing work that will begin long before the launch of the study with the staff- recommended accommodation plan. Confirmation of the name of the Alta Vista Hunt Club Review Area Staff has re-examined the local review area titles (replicating the City of Ottawa Planning Review Areas and demographic dissemination areas), and the title Alta Vista Hunt Club, while not capturing every neighbourhood, seems appropriate. School Condition/Upcoming Works A listing of upcoming renovations to schools was requested. The school information profile that will be included as an appendix to the staff initiation report, which will be presented to COW on 7 September 2016 will include a five-year listing of upcoming events and a ten-year history of works completed. As this summer’s work is finalized, a schedule will be provided by email next week.
