Darina MARTYKÁNOVÁ 125 OTTOMAN ENGINEERS: THE REDEFINITION OF EXPERT IDENTITIES DURING THE REIGN OF ABDÜLHAMID II AND THE EARLY YEARS OF THE SECOND CONSTITUTIONAL PERIOD I n 1907, Mustafa Şevki, a young engineer who worked in the Public Works (nafıa) provincial administration of Prishtina, was approached by two young army officers who proposed him to join the Committee of Union and Progress (İttihatveTerakkiCemiyeti, CUP).1 The CUP was a secret organisation that channelled the opposition against the autocratic rule of the sultan Abdülhamid II. Its ranks were full of Muslim (and some non-Muslim) students, officers and civil servants educated in “new-style” schools. Its members were united by their concern for the fate of the Ottoman Empire and their conviction was that the Empire could not be saved and restored to its former glory by using old ways and measures. Çağdaş mimarlık tarihimizin açılış yıllarına olduğu kadar, yaşandığı çağın toplumsal yapısına da ışık tutabilecek nitelikte görülen mimarın bu renkli yaşam öyküsünün günümüze aktarılması, bu araştırmanın amacı olarak saptanmıştır. ölümünün üzerinden kısa sayılabilecek bir süre geçmiş olmasına karşın, Kemalettin Bey'in yaşamı üzerindeki bu çalışmanın en güç yönünü kaynak araştırmaları oluşturmuştur. Yaşadığı dönemde, toplum içinde tanınmış bir kişi olduğu halde, hakkında pek az yazılı belge bulunması, kendisini yakından tanıyan kişilerin çoğunun Ölmüş olmaları, eldeki az sayıdaki belgenin ise eski yazıyla yazılmış olmaları, kaynak araştırmalarında karşılaşılan güçlüklere neden olarak gösterilebilir. Mimarın yaşadığı yıllarda, ya da Ölümünden sonra, kendisinin mimarlık görüşlerini açıklayan, yapıtlarım inceleyen, yaşam Öyküsünü veren pek az yazılı kaynak bulunmaktadır. -

Bu konuda yerli, yabancı çeşitli araştırmacılar tarafından kitap, makale ve tezler yazılmıştır. Ancak bölge için inşası düşünülen Hicâz Demiryolu Müdiriyyet-i ‘Umûmiyyesi Binası Projesi hiç gündeme gelmemiştir. Vakıflar Genel Müdürlüğü arşivinde yer alan özgün çizimlere ve 6000’e yakın BOA belgelerinin taranmasının ardından, Hicaz hattı ve Müdüriyyeti ile ilgili tarihsel ve siyasal gelişmeler ele alınarak “Hicaz Müdüriyyet-i Umumiye Binası Projesi” makalede konu edinilmiştir. İmparatoluğun desteklediği ve Milli Mi- mari döneminin özelliklerini yansıtan yüksek nitelikli bu projenin plan ve cephe özellikleri, kapsamlı olarak ilk defa gün ışığına çıkarılarak çizimlerdeki mimari yaklaşım karşılaştırmalı değerlendirmelerle ortaya konulmuştur. Makalenin asıl amacı, Evkaf Ser mimarı Kemaleddin Bey yönetiminde tasarlanan, İnşaat ve Tamirat Müdür ve Mimarı Ali Talat Bey’in onayladığı ve Mukbil Kemal’in mimar olarak görev aldığı “Hicâz Demiryolu Müdiriyyet-i ‘Umûmiyyesi Binâsı Projesi” olarak adlandırılan çizimlerin incelenmesiyle alana yeni bir açılım sağlamak ve yeni araştırma ve değerlendirmelere ışık tutmaktır. 318 MİMAR KEMALEDDİN VE HARİKZEDEGÂN (TAYYARE) APARTMANLARI ÜZERİNE BİR DENEME Hasan Basri KARTAL Asiye Nisa KARTAL** Özet Osmanlı Devleti’nin yıkılma dönemine denk gelen yıllarda, 1870 yılında doğmuş Mimar Kemaleddin’in İstanbul’da yapmış olduğu son eserleri arasında yer alan, 1918 Fatih yangınında evleri yanıp kül olan yangından zarar görenler için yaptığı Harikzedegân (Tayyare) Apartmanları hem mimari kurgusu ile hem de yapısal özellikleri ile Türk Mimarlık Tarihi içerisinde farklı bir yere oturmaktadır. Planlama anlayışı bakımından Geliş Tarihi: 27.09.2020 geleneksel Türk Evi’nden biraz farklı bir kurgu içerisinde ele alınmış, Kabul Tarihi: 19.11.2020 servis mekânları ortak kullanıma uygun olacak şekilde çözülmüş, bu haliyle apartmanlaşmanın İstanbul Tarihi Yarımada’daki öncüsü olmuştur. Atıf Bilgisi: Hars Akademi Ayrıca Türk Mimarlık Tarihi içerisinde Harikzedegan Kat evleri betonarme Uluslararası Hakemli Kültür- yapım sisteminin bütünüyle yapıya uygulandığı en erken örneklerinden Sanat-Mimarlık Dergisi biridir. Bu bağlamda bu makalenin amacı öncelikle Mimar Kemaleddin’in Osmanlı-Türk Mimarisi içerisindeki konumunun ve mimarlık alanındaki Sayı: 6 katkılarının tespit edilmesi ve daha sonra Harikzedegan Apartmanları’nın Sayfa: 318-341 Mimar Kemaleddin ile başlayan ve günümüze uzanan hikâyesinin Yıl: 2020 serimlemesini yapmaktır. This period is one of the most important periods for application of the shrine monuments. This shrine is one of the most important shrines in the Timurids period and probably is one of the known historical monuments of Balkh and also plays a role of mosque which is called a kind of shrine mosque. Research method of this paper is historical – documentary and its analysis method is descriptive –analytical. So, all types of decorations and architectural physical elements of this monument are studied and results from magnificence are given. Key words: shrine, Abu Nasr Parsa , Balkh , Timurids period , Iran , Afghanistan Introduction Shrine monument for the Iranian great men has been considered more than other Islamic countries because the Iranians respected for their saints and great men and sanctified them and constructed shrines for eternizing names of these great men , humanitarians and famous people. -
Mimar Kemaleddin (1870 İstanbul-1927 İstanbul)
Mimar Kemaleddin (1870 İstanbul-1927 İstanbul) Architect Kemaleddin was born in 1870 in Istanbul. Due to his father's duty he went to Crete and learnt French and Arabic during his stay there. Having returned to Istanbul, he improved his foreign language skills. After high school, he was enrolled at the School of Engineering and graduated from this school in 1891 with first rank. During his education, with his outstanding talent, he drew the attention of German Architect Prof. Jasmund, who was lecturing at the same school, and became an assistant there. Architect Kemaleddin held this position for four years, during which time he also opened his private office and began designing his early works. In 1895, the Government sent him to Berlin for further studies in architecture. He studied architecture at Charlottenburg Technische Hochschule in Berlin for two years and worked in architectures' offices for a while. Back in Turkey, Architect Kemaleddin was appointed as a lecturer in the fields of architecture and civil engineering at the School of Engineering. It was during this period that his ideas on national architecture started to blossom. He produced his major works in architecture between 1909 and 1919. Founding the first trade association in 1908 under the name of "Ottoman Association of Architects and Engineers", Architect Kemaleddin worked as the Construction and Reparation Manager at the Ministry of Foundations. During this period, when he was involved with the restoration of historical buildings and the design of new ones, he found the opportunity to examine the principles of Ottoman architecture, develop his own style and form his own thoughts on national architecture. -

Aragon Dr. Katherine Pratt Ewing © 2012 Rachana Rao Umashankar ALL RIGHTS RESERVED ii ABSTRACT RACHANA RAO UMASHANKAR: Defending Sufism, Defining Islam: Asserting Islamic identity in India (Under the direction of Dr. James L. Peacock and Dr. Lauren G. Leve) Based on thirteen months of intensive fieldwork at two primary sites in India, this dissertation describes how adherents of shrine-based Sufism assert their identity as Indian Muslims in the contexts of public debates over religion and belonging in India, and of reformist critiques of their Islamic beliefs and practices. Faced with opposition to their mode of Islam from reformist Muslim groups, and the challenges to their sense of national identity as members of a religious minority in India, I argue that adherents of shrine-based Sufism claim the sacred space of the Sufi shrine as a venue where both the core values of Islam and of India are given form and reproduced. For these adherents, contemporary shrine-based Sufism is a dynamic and creative force that manifests essential aspects of Islam that are also fundamental Indian values, and which are critical to the health of the nation today. The dissertation reveals that contested identities and internal religious debates can only be understood and interpreted within the broader framework of national and global debates over Islam and over the place of Islam in the Indian polity that shape them.
