043 MEASURING OUR PROGRESS HOW HAVE WE ARRIVED AT THE TARGET FOR MANCHESTER?

In December 2008, the UK Committee on Climate Change (CCC) recommended the fi rst three legally binding carbon budgets for the whole of the UK, putting the country on a track to meeting a national reduction in emissions of 80% by 2050. To calculate targets for Manchester to correspond to these UK reduction projections, these carbon budgets were scaled, by sector, to the Manchester city level by the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research based on the make-up of Manchester’s fuel. This gave us our target of 41%, based on a reduction pathway as shown below¹.
