The Township of Manitouwadge is accepting applications for the position of Public Works Superintendent The Township of Manitouwadge is a Northern community, nestled in the Canadian Shield, located 450km West of Sault Ste. Marie and 400km East of Thunder Bay, Ontario, serving a population of approximately 1,800 residents. We are currently seeking applications for a motivated and skilled professional, to assume the role of Public Works Superintendent. Reporting to the CAO/Clerk-Treasurer, the successful candidate will be proficient at leading a team and provide ongoing performance management, leadership and direction to supervisory and support staff. The Public Works Superintendent will be responsible for administering and directing the Public Works Department in all areas of construction, maintenance and long term planning of public roads, storm water management, municipal drains, transportation infrastructure, municipal water and sewer operations and municipal cemeteries. Project management experience is an essential skill necessary for this position. Sound financial knowledge will be required to prepare and analyze annual operating and capital budgets based on trends and future requirements. This position will offer advice and guidance to Council on the development of plans, priorities and policies for designated areas within the Public Works department. Qualifications: • Community College Diploma in a related field; Civil Engineering Technology (CET) designation is preferred, with a minimum 5 years of experience (preferably municipal) in a supervisor/management role; • Road management knowledge through a Certified Roads Supervisor (CRS) designation (senior level) or ability to obtain. • Knowledge of relevant legislation including, WSIB, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Highway Traffic Act etc. • Completion of the Drainage Superintendent Course through OMAFRA would be considered an asset; • Proficiency in the use of computer applications such as GIS and Microsoft Office software applications are required. • Excellent supervisory experience in a unionized environment • To oversee compliance of all water and wastewater systems with all governing regulatory conditions and requirements.
