Automated Excess Baggage Mask Description Automatically displayed when free allowance exceeded or when another carriers charge may apply. Collect charges or override. Overview Excess baggage mask will automatically display when checking a bag that exceeds the free baggage allowance or when another carriers charge may apply. Below are a list of applicable override codes and reasons that you may select to use. Policy The excess baggage mask will be automatically displayed when a passenger checks more baggage than allowed by their ticket type, fare, class of service, AAdvantage status, ticket purchase date, or other qualifier. When the mask is automatically displayed, the boarding pass and bag tag will be inhibited until the mask is completed or the override option is selected and completed. When the mask is automatically displayed by ACS, the override option will be located below the flight routing information as follows: WAIVE EXCESS BAGGAGE CHARGES - OVERRIDE MASK When the override option is selected with an X, a new override screen will appear, similar to T-REX reissue/change fee overrides. More reasons can exist that are displayable in the mask. Agents can display the Override Reason Code Table with the entry MIXBO*. Any of the reason codes in the table can be entered in the mask Override Screen, even if they don't appear. PNR Documented with Baggage Override Data Effective July 17, 2014: When a baggage charge has been waived, the baggage data will be documented in the Remarks field of the PNR. Tier on ONE/AS Most Significant Carrier: Temporarily used to support the AS/oneworld tier member exceptions in the following conditions: • When AS is the Most Significant Carrier (MSC), bags 1 & 2 will be waived for AA/AS Tier customers OW • When a oneworld partner (AB, AY, BA, CX, IB, JL, LA, MH, QF, QR, RJ, S7, US) is the MSC we will waive bags 1 & 2 for AA/OW Tier customers (*Only 1 bag is waived for GLD/RBY for tickets issued on/after April 8, 2014) *Specify the MSC in remarks. I.E. OW – US MSC or OW – AS MSC Military Bag: Used for military bags. Personal Travel – • Active U.S. Military are allowed 3 bags (50lbs/62in) without a charge • Dependents – no military allowance (only fare allowance) MB On orders – • Active U.S. Military are allowed 5 bags (100lbs/126in) without a charge • Dependents – active U.S. military allowance and not required to travel with active military Most Generous: When a passenger is traveling in First or Business in one direction and coach in another when the baggage rules of AA apply, we give the First/Business class allowance for the whole itinerary (AA/BA/IB/JL/US). Use the F/J override code to give the most generous allowance. FJ • When an LFBU has been processed, the most generous rule only applies to the journey, not the whole itinerary. Previously Collected: Use when a customer has already paid the excess bag fee to AA or US only for the following scenarios: • Can be used for co-terminals following international and domestic stopover rules Example: DFW-LGA-JFK-LHR • VMPD (Virtual Miscellaneous Paid Document) – similar to an EMD or MCO, agents would enter the form number of the VMPD from the receipt • Printer Jam/Fail to Print PC • Use this code when you have already collected the baggage charges through the MISC6 mask • Used for large groups with only one payment (collect up front for all bags then check bags) *Specify the Original Excess Baggage Coupon (EXB) number in remarks *Do not use the passenger ticket number WCHR/INF EQP/Assist: Medical Assistive devices will include anything that is medically necessary for the customer to travel, including wheelchairs, scooters, crutches, walkers, canes, etc. WC • Baby strollers and child safety seats are also included in this category. Ski Boots/Skis: Archery, Fishing, Hockey, Lacrosse, Scuba without a tank, Ski, Snowboard, and Windsurfing all allow 2 bags for the price of one SK *Specify the sports item being checked in remarks Recheck/Reroute/IT: The reroute waiver will only be applied when another carrier routes a customer to AA/US and that customer’s original itinerary contained international segments resulting in an international baggage allowance but AA was only given the new domestic routing RC Example: UA reroutes a customer with original routing of IAH-ORD-FRA to IAH-DFW-ORD-FRA and AA only sees IAH-DFW-ORD segments – the customer is still entitled to the international baggage allowance. OA reroute waiver would apply Example: AS reroutes a customer with original routing of SEA-SAN to SEA-PHX-SAN on US/AA and the customer brings the bag to the ticket counter to check, bag fees apply Bags that arrive from an international destination and the customer bypasses the re-check desk to recheck the bag at the ticket counter does not require a new tag if the bag is properly tagged All bags that are transferred rampside will not be charged For connecting oneworld bags, it has been agreed upon by all oneworld carriers that passengers will not be charged mid-point if either the bags were checked incorrectly (short-checked) or a charge was not previously collected. *Specify flight number and carrier code in remarks Bags Pooled With-Name: • When PNRs originally booked together have been divided for reasons internal only to AA, agents may override the charge. Exemptions apply for companions of AAdvantage Platinum and Executive Platinum, and oneworld Sapphire and Emerald, AAdvantage Gold, and oneworld Ruby members only when booked in the same PNR as the member. PL • Exemptions do not apply when these customers are booked in a corporate or group PNR. Enter the two-letter code of the Most Significant Carrier IB (MSC) in the (Explain/Doc NBR/Name) field *Agents should not use this code When a passenger returns from security with a prohibited item, it can be added to a checked bag if it is retrievable. If not, checking the item as a new bag is subject to applicable baggage charges. They no longer qualify for general waiver. .
