Everybody is talking about E-Mobility and the heart of Porsche E-Mobility is the car. The plug-in hybrid or rather E-Hybrid is based on a high-voltage lithium-ion battery that can be charged from the mains and thanks to its considerably greater energy content, the electric range is significantly longer. As intelligent as the new E-Hybrid technology is, an innovative car concept is of no value if it ends with the car. E-Mobility therefore includes the infrastructure: an optimally integrated vehicle charge port, practical charging equipment and intelligent charging options, to use at home and on the road. PORSCHE UNIVERSAL CHARGER (AC) The standard Porsche Universal Charger (AC) establishes a secure connection between different electrical sockets and your car. Charging normally starts automatically when it is plugged in. The Porsche Universal Charger (AC) can be easily stowed in the transport case for use on road. PORSCHEWILLOUGHBY.COM.AU - 11 RESTORATION

The Exclusive Body Werks bare metal re-spray process is in many ways clinical from start to finish. Staff use gloves to prevent any sweat or salt transference from the hands; stopping any chance of bubbling paintwork down the track. The car is chemically paint stripped and cleaned with a 1985 dioxidine. The galvanized metal gets 2 prime coats rubbed back with 240 grit sandpaper, followed by 3 coats of primer and is rubbed back again and finished with 800. Then the fun part starts with 3 coats of Glasurit 90 Line Waterborne basecoat, followed by 3 coats of high solid clear PORSCHE coat. It is then lightly baked for 90 minutes at 60 degrees. At this stage the re-sprayed shell goes back to Cavaco Motors for the 911 TARGA engine to be put back in. David has completed the top end rebuild, and Back with Rob Scheeren - Automotive Photographer installed the engine with the reconditioned gearbox. He also organised for all the tinwork and the alternator shroud and fan to be re-sprayed, and his 911 Targa restoration. We find the rebuilding so it looks as fantastic under the hood as it will on the outside. To finish process underway and at this stage the car is just a it off, all the metallic gold engine decals under the hood have also been shell. No engine, no glass, no and dismantled as replaced to give it that new factory look. much as is required for the bare metal re-spray. Back to Exclusive Body Werks for the re-assembly of the car, 3 days of sanding back the clear coat and various levels of polishing and paint Part 2 protection. In the ‘flat and comp’ process, the car gets rubbed back with very fine 2000 sandpaper and finished with ultrafine 4000 grit paper. The polishing then starts. Finally a coat of wax and nano paint protection is applied and the process is complete, sealing in all the waxes and polishes. Ron Goodman (top right) also lent a hand to the finishing touches. His dedication and attention to detail are embodied in this car. The finish is like glass, so silky smooth and incredibly clean. A new paint job from these guys has to be seen (and felt) to be believed! The seats and parcel shelf have been completed and reinstalled, using leather sourced from Germany. The colour matching, stitching and attention to detail is superb and exact to factory specifications.

Before Some smaller touches: I opted for a black Carrera script to be added as it gives the car a little more appeal and is also time appropriate. Also the aftermarket Pioneer CD/Stereo needed to be replaced. I found a period correct Blaupunkt ‘New York’ cassette deck in Queensland via eBay. It came new in the box with an amplifier, all the books and cables, the original owner having bought it for a restoration that didn’t happen. No sooner was the car back on the road, than it was ready to share a spot with the newly released 991 Targa, in the showroom at Porsche Centre Willoughby. I quite like how Porsche have incorporated the same ‘hoop’ style from previous Targa models into the current car and added some modern technology that opens and closes the roof with the touch

This meant driving on some open roads and drives that I really enjoy doing on Sunday mornings with the early classic cars in the Porsche Club. The car completed its first track day back at Sydney Motorsport Park and performed very well; the driver however could lift his game to get the best out of it. I plan to show the car in the PCNSW Concours d’Elegance in October.
