Bancroft played underage cricket for WA in U17s and U19s and debut in first grade for Willetton Cricket Club as a 17-year-old where he made his first First Grade ton in the opening round of the 2010/11 season. In 2012 Bancroft made his domestic one-day debut against Tasmania and a week after that, played his first Sheffield Shield game against Victoria. 2012 also saw Bancroft selected in the Australian under-19 World Cup team ahead of the Queensland-based tournament where he was Australia’s second highest run scorer. The 2014/15 season was Bancroft’s coming of age in which he made three tons, including his first double hundred, at an average of 47. After an incredible batting display against the Aussie bowling attack at Hurstville Oval and a double ton a week later against South Australia, Bancroft was selected in the 2017/18 Ashes, which saw him post an unbeaten 82 in his second innings in Brisbane and play all five Tests in that series. Bancroft received a 9-month ban from international and domestic cricket in Australia for his part in the ball tampering scandal in South Africa in 2018. Upon his return, Bancroft found form for the Perth Scorchers in the BBL, Western Australia in Shield Cricket, and Durham in English County cricket which saw him named in Australia’s squad for the 2019 Ashes series in England in which he played the opening two Test matches. Bancroft’s interests outside of cricket are golf, yoga and meditation. On the back of these interests he has started a business with some other professional cricketers called Gritfull which is about making a difference to young people through positive wellbeing activities.     DECIDE: How to Manage the Risk in Your Decision Making Beware milestones Having convinced you to improve your measurement of what really matters in your organisation so that you can make better decisions, I must provide a word of caution. Sometimes when we introduce new measures we actually hurt decision making. Take the effect that milestones have on people. Milestones as the name infers are solid markers of progress on a journey. You have either made the milestone or you have fallen short. There is no better example of the effect of milestones on decision making than from sport. Take the game of cricket. If you don’t know cricket all you need to focus in on is one number, 100. That number represents a century of runs by a batsman in one innings and is a massive milestone. Careers are judged on the number of centuries a batsman scores. A batsman plays the game to score runs by hitting a ball sent toward him at varying speeds of up to 100.2 miles per hour (161.3 kilometres per hour) by a bowler from 22 yards (20 metres) away. The 100.2 mph delivery, officially the fastest ball ever recorded, was delivered by Shoaib Akhtar of Pakistan. Shoaib was nicknamed the Rawalpindi Express! Needless to say, scoring runs is not dead easy. A great batting average in cricket at the highest levels is 40 plus and you are among the elite when you have an average over 50. Then there is Australia’s great Don Bradman who had an average of 99.94 with his next nearest rivals being South Africa’s Graeme Pollock with 60.97 and England’s Herb Sutcliffe with 60.63.

    Mathematical Models for Cricket Team Selection Hamish Thorburn Dr Michael Forbes The University of Queensland 26/02/2015 1 1 Abstract An attempt was made to try and select the Australian Test Cricket Team for then-upcoming series against India in December-January 2014-2015. Data was collected pertaining to 37 Australian cricket players, relating to both recent form (the 12 months prior to commencement of the project) and career form across multiple formats of the game. The team was selected using a mixed-integer- programming (MIP) model, after processing the statistics collected to create usable parameters for the model. It was found that the team selected by the MIP model shared only 5 of the 11 players with the actual team selected by the Australian Board of Selectors to compete in the series. When altering parameters of the model, it was found that the batting diversity of the team could be doubled while only losing 0.008 of the available talent of selected players. The reduced costs were calculated to determine how close unselected players were to being selected, and what they would have to increase their batting/bowling averages to be considered for selection. Finally, we compared the ICC player ratings to our calculated batting and bowling indices, to try to determine the optimal weighting between the different statistics. It was found that batting average was most important in batting performance (but was more important in test matches than one-day matches) and that bowling average and economy were equally important in bowling performance. 2 Introduction 2.1 The Game of Cricket Cricket is a sport composing of opposing teams of 11 players each side.

From Ithe day I joined the International Cricket Council (ICC)’s elite panel in 2008, two years after I stood in my first international at the Oval, I trained for every game, and in particular Test matches, in pretty much the same way and certainly with a bit more professionalism than when I played for England back in the 1980s when warm-ups usually consisted of a few laps of the outfield and some stretches with the physio Bernard Thomas, who was the equivalent of a modern-day strength and conditioning coach back then. Two days before the game started, I would go down to the ground, dump my gear in the umpires’ 17 GUNNER: MY LIFE IN CRICKET room, wander over to the nets and stand at one end during each team’s practice and just observe. When you think about it, it’s an obvious thing to do.     Sussex Sharks v. Australia Tourist Match The 1st Central County Ground, Hove. Friday 8th June 2018. Sussex put up a brave fight against the new-look Aussies - but couldn't prevent the tourists claiming the spoils to kick off their visit to England with victory on a wonderful day of cricket at Hove. But the Sharks lost too many wickets at key times - including two fairly needless run-outs - to give up their hopes of handing the tourists a losing start to their visit. It was Australia's first game on a tour that will see them play five ODIs and one T20 against England in a series starting next Wednesday. Sussex had sold every one of their 6,000 seats for the game, while it was also a chance for Jason Gillespie's team to put behind them the disappointment of failing to qualify for the knockout stages of the Royal London One-Day Cup. All eyes were on the Australians, who have not been seen too much in public since the ball- tampering scandal that rocked the cricket world. The saga has robbed the team of captain Steve Smith and vice-captain David Warner - both banned for a year - and opener Cameron Bancroft, suspended for nine months. It's also seen Darren Lehmann depart as coach to be replaced by Justin Langer, and apart from this being his first match at the helm, it was also a first chance for English cricket fans to see how the Australians were evolving ahead of next year's World Cup and home Ashes series.
