How can Daryl, CarolJudith, and the others survive such an overwhelming onslaught? Like so much other TV, the arrival of covid delayed the season 10 finale, which, during the interim, ceased being the season 10 finale. Now that we know that there are six more episodes to come, it takes some of the pressure off this one to blow our minds, as season finales should. This is good, because while the episode was fun, mind-blowing it was not. The wagon can be pulled by horses, and lead the herd right off a giant, conveniently located cliff. Actually, only a few of them wore zombie masks despite it being immeasurably safer, which I thought was unnecessarily pertinent. This is the episode at its best. They only wound these Whisperers so that they cry out in pain…which grabs Whisper the Dead attention of all the nearby zombies who discover lunch has just been delivered to them. Even better, Lydia stays for a while, helping point out her former cult-mates which helps keep Daryl and the others safe. She dies well; stabbing the Whisperer who stabbed her, begging the nearby Carol Whisper the Dead to rescue her but to grab her backpack, which contains some needed parts. Then the group takes a leisurely trip with the wagon, a few riding on top, the others providing an armed guard around it. All good! So Daryl and the others return to the base to start killing off any loitering Whisperers. At this point, three main Whisper War storylines need to be wrapped up. Negan who appeared to have run away earlier in the episode but turns out not to have run awayshocker challenges Beta to a fight right in Whisper the Dead middle of the horde. Inside the compound, Gabriel has stayed to single-handedly guard the evacuation route from the Whisperers trying to break in. The Whisperers use a flashbang and break down the door; Gabriel takes out a few with a shotgun and pummels some others, Whisper the Dead the Whisperers have knocked Gabriel to the ground and again, are about to deliver the killing blow when a weird masked dude wielding scythes pops up and cuts the Whisperers to shreds. As people on TWD are wont to do, obviously. Maggie and Gabriel have a warm and incredibly brief reunion. There are still things to do! Lydia leads the horde to the cliff but Carol grabs her a few yards away from the edge. In her traditional, self-hating manner, Carol demands to do it herself, pushes Lydia away, and walks up to the edge. But then Lydia grabs Carol and pulls her behind a small rock outcropping where the zombies pass by them and they are perfectly safe. This is very crappy because it proves neither woman needed to die to destroy the mega-herd, which retroactively makes their self-sacrificial posturing meaningless, ruining any tension the scene was supposed to have. And thus, the terror of Beta and the Whisperers and Their Very Many Zombies ends not with a bang, but two knives, a boombox, and a Talking Heads cassette. But on the other hand, The Walking Dead has had a terrible habit of drawing these final battles out long, long past the point that they stop being entertaining. If the choice is between the six-episode-long final war with the Saviors, and our heroes taking care of the Whisperers in two-thirds of a single episode, I will—and have—happily accept the latter. Alas, Eugene busts up his bike on the way he may have ridden directly into a stationary car? Eugene says they should give up, but Ezekiel gives one of his pep talks and convinces Eug, Yumiko, Whisper the Dead their new pal Princess to Whisper the Dead there anyway and hope for the best. In true Stormtrooper fashion, they quickly surround Eugene and pals, hold them at rifle point, and Whisper the Dead they drop their weapons. The fact that the show can pivot between a bunch of bizarre cultists who wear skin Whisper the Dead and some Whisper the Dead who turned an Apple Genius Bar into an armory is just fantastic. Rob Bricken was the Editor of io9 fromthe creator of Whisper the Dead poorly named but fan-favorite news site Topless Robot, and now writes nerd stuff for many places, because it's all he's good at. But once we see Gabriel and company up top in archer mode, it became clearer. The episode had its weak points, but on paper, this part of the episode worked Whisper the Dead me for the most part. But whatever, dramatic big baddie death must be dramatic Everything you need to know about and expect during. The A. Television Comic Book Shows. Rob Bricken. Filed to: Walkingdeadrecap. They served as the secondary antagonistic group for the first half of Season 9 and the primary antagonistic group for Whisper the Dead second half of Season 9 and Whisper the Dead whole of Season The Whisperers are a group of unknown size who have adopted the ideology that humanity is to return to its most animalistic roots, living in the wild and following a societal hierarchy similar to that of wolves, with an "Alpha" as their one true pack leader. As such, The Whisperers are also fiercely territorial and will kill anyone who treads into any land they see as their own. Through a process of skinning killed walkers and possibly other dead bodies and curing the 'leather' in order to prevent Whisper the Dead, Whisperers craft and don full-head masks Whisper the Dead allow them to blend into herds and guide them like sheep for strategic or defensive benefits. Nothing is known about the lives of the Whisperers prior to or as the outbreak began, or when and where their group was Whisper the Dead formed. Some members, like " Alpha " and her daughterand Mary and Frances knew each other prior. The Whisperers were first Whisper the Dead by a woman who would eventually become known as "Alpha", her young daughter, Lydia, and a man who would become known as "Beta". The three had previously encountered each other in a hospital and joined forces with each other. The three eventually began using an ingenious way of being protected from walker attacks by killing the walkers and using their skin to mask their scents in order to move freely among their herds. Picking up new survivors along the way, they instructed them to use this practice and all of the group members were forced to shed their previous identities and names, becoming nothing but hardened and primitive survivors. They survived off the land, moving from place to place. The group communicates whilst moving among herds by whispering with gruff voices, hence their name, similar to what a walker may sound like if it could talk. By herding walkers, the group was eventually able to culminate a large Whisper the Dead numbering in the thousands to be used as a potential weapon. Six years after Rick 's presumed death, the communities have become fractured and distrusting of one another. Travel between groups is infrequent, and the wider world has transformed. Whisper the Dead technology and infrastructure from the old world have long since stopped working, and the vast areas outside settlements Whisper the Dead been taken over by nature. On Whisper the Dead mission to set up improved radio communication, Eugene and Rosita move out beyond the safely mapped areas near Alexandria. In the process, they unknowingly crossed into Whisperer territory. Whilst fleeing from a herd of walkers in the woods upon accidentally catching their attention, the two are relentlessly pursued, unable to lose the undead. Fatigued, they eventually slide down a small Whisper the Dead on Whisper the Dead side of a road and cover themselves with mud to Whisper the Dead their scents from the approaching herd. The two are then horrified to hear what sounds like speaking walkers. One is heard asking "Where are they? Don't let them get away. After stowing Eugene in a barn, Rosita once again attempts to escape from the herd. While following an exhausted and injured Rosita through the woods, the Whisperers are heard whispering to each other "She's still here", "Yes While out looking Whisper the Dead Eugene, DarylJesus and Aaron observe a large herd of about or in a field, and notice that the walkers are just milling around in circles, something they have never witnessed before. With a storm approaching, the three then leave. However, a Whisperer within the Whisper the Dead becomes aware to their presence, and watches them as they walk off. The three keep on moving Whisper the Dead soon realize that the herd has begun to follow them, and to buy them time, Daryl activates an alarm clock and throws it into the field in order to draw them away with the noise. The Whisper the Dead notice that the herd has doubled in numbers since they last saw it as the Whisperers are combining herds to pursue the trio and run away when the alarm goes off, seemingly drawing the herd to it.
