www.gradeup.co ANSWERS FOR 100+ CA QUESTIONS NDA • UN Environment Programme (UNEP) has released a report titled “Global Climate Litigation Report 2021”. • According to the report Climate litigation cases have spiked in recent years, making the courtroom increasingly relevant to efforts to address climate change around the world. • The report, published by UNEP in cooperation with the Sabin Center for Climate Change Law at Columbia University, shows climate litigation has become more common and more successful worldwide. • As per the report, climate cases have nearly doubled over the last three years. • Increasing climates cases are increasingly compelling the governments and corporate actors to implement their climate commitments. • The cases are also compelling the government to pursue more ambitious climate change mitigation and adaptation goals. • As per the data provided by the report, in 2017 884 cases were brought in 24 countries. While as of 2020, cases have increased to 1,550 filed in 38 countries and the European Union courts. • COVID-19 “performance index” was released by the Australian think- tank, Lowy Institute. • In the index India ranked 86 out of 98 countries, while the United States placed 94 and Brazil at the bottom of the index. • Sri Lanka was the best faring nation in South Asia, ranking 10, while the Maldives was at 25, Pakistan at 69, Nepal at 70, and Bangladesh at 84. • The think-tank said China was not included “due to a lack of publicly available data on testing”. • New Zealand and Vietnam led the list, followed by Taiwan, Thailand and Cyprus in the top five. -

SHRI BIRENDRA PRASAD BAISHYA: We achieved more than seven per cent economic growth in the last year. The credit goes to our strong banking system. Even during the period of global recession our economy had performed much better. This Government has totally failed in controlling price rise and inflation in country. Due to the total failure of the Public Distribution System people suffered a lot. People are suffering very badly in our State and the North-Eastern Region. Still Indo-Bangladesh border is open. One of the important emphasis given is regarding the protocol of the Land Border Agreement between India and Bangladesh. The land of Assam had been given to Bangladesh without consulting us. This Agreement is totally against the spirit of people of Assam. If any person from Arunachal Pradesh goes to visit China, he will not get visa. F NATIONAL UPDATES: 1. Petroleum Minister unveils India’s first long distance CNG bus: Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan unveiled India's first long-distance Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) bus fitted with CNG cylinders at a function in New Delhi. It can travel around one thousand kilometers in a single fill. The first long-range interstate CNG bus will play from Delhi to Dehradun. Mahindra & Mahindra along with Agility Fuel Solutions of USA have partnered with IGL for introducing the new concept of lightweight Type IV composite cylinders in buses. Note: The project has been executed by Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) and has been achieved through the design of Type IV Composite Cylinders in buses, replacing traditional very heavy Type-I Carbon Steel cylinders. 2. Rohtang tunnel in Himachal Pradesh named as Atal tunnel: Prime Minister Narendra Modi named Rohtang passageway in Himachal Pradesh as Atal Tunnel to mark the 95th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The tunnel has been named as a tribute to the former Prime Minister who took the historic decision of constructing this strategic tunnel. The strategic Atal tunnel will change the fortunes of this region and will help in promoting tourism in the region. The 8.8-kilometre-long tunnel is the world's longest tunnel above an altitude of 3,000 metres. After completion of the tunnel, it will provide all-weather connectivity to remote areas of Lahaul and Spiti Valley and reduce the distance between Manali and Leh by 46 Kilometres. It is a 10.5-metre wide single tube bi-lane tunnel with a fire-proof emergency tunnel built into the main tunnel itself. -

1st March 1) National Affairs Union Cabinet approves President’s Rule in Puducherry The Union Cabinet has approved to dissolve the Puducherry Assembly and impose President’s rule in the Union territory, following the resignation of the Chief Minister, V Naryanswamy. The decision was taken as no party claimed to form a government, following which the Lieutenant Governor had recommended President’s Rule. The approval will now be sent to the President, Ramnath Kovind and the legislative assembly of the UT will be dissolved once the President accords his permission. Panama Papers: Rs 20,000 crore in undeclared assets identified Relevant for GS Prelims & Mains Paper III; Economics Panama Papers Panama Papers, the Pulitzer-winning investigation that exposed how the rich and powerful parked and moved their money in and out of global tax havens, has led Indian tax authorities to undeclared assets worth over Rs 20,000 crore so far possibly among the highest for a single batch of cases. — Reply of CBDT Replying to Right To Information (RTI) requests filed by The Indian Express, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) said that till June 2021, undeclared assets totalling Rs 20,078 crore have been identified by them in India and abroad following the investigation. Role of Indian Express The Indian Express was a global partner in Panama Papers, which focused on offshore holdings gleaned from about 11.5 million secret documents obtained from the Panamanian Law firm, Mossack Fonseca. The findings of the investigation, helmed by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) and involving 100 media partners, was published in India by The Indian Express in April 2016. GOVERNOR EXTENDS REPUBLIC DAY GREETINGS Panaji, January 25, 2021 Magha 5, 1942 The Governor of Goa, Shri. Bhagat Singh Koshyari has extended his warm greetings on the occasion of 72nd Republic day of India. “It gives me immense pleasure to extend my greetings to all of you. It is on this day, in the year 1950 that our Constitution came into effect in order to secure to all its citizens the noble principles of justice, liberty, equality and fraternity,” the Governor said in his message. “Over the last seven decades India has proved itself to be a vibrant democracy. The transition of political power every five years at the Centre, States and Local Self-Governing Institutions through the institutional mechanism of elections has always been smooth and successful. Further India has never failed to assert its sovereignty and protect its secular outlook”, the Governor said. The Governor further adds, “The last one year has been dominated by the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic. Corona has disrupted the socio-economic landscape of the entire globe and it has fundamentally changed the way we live. In India under the decisive and visionary leadership of Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi ji we have done a remarkable job of containing of virus by way of minimizing infections and loss of lives underlining the resilience of our spirit. It is further a matter of pride that within a short period of nine months we have been able to indigenously develop anti-Covid vaccine and roll-out the world’s largest vaccination programme which is going on successfully all over the country. -
