GOVERNOR EXTENDS REPUBLIC DAY GREETINGS Panaji, January 25, 2021 Magha 5, 1942 The Governor of Goa, Shri. Bhagat Singh Koshyari has extended his warm greetings on the occasion of 72nd Republic day of India. “It gives me immense pleasure to extend my greetings to all of you. It is on this day, in the year 1950 that our Constitution came into effect in order to secure to all its citizens the noble principles of justice, liberty, equality and fraternity,” the Governor said in his message. “Over the last seven decades India has proved itself to be a vibrant democracy. The transition of political power every five years at the Centre, States and Local Self-Governing Institutions through the institutional mechanism of elections has always been smooth and successful. Further India has never failed to assert its sovereignty and protect its secular outlook”, the Governor said. The Governor further adds, “The last one year has been dominated by the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic. Corona has disrupted the socio-economic landscape of the entire globe and it has fundamentally changed the way we live. In India under the decisive and visionary leadership of Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi ji we have done a remarkable job of containing of virus by way of minimizing infections and loss of lives underlining the resilience of our spirit. It is further a matter of pride that within a short period of nine months we have been able to indigenously develop anti-Covid vaccine and roll-out the world’s largest vaccination programme which is going on successfully all over the country. The world today acknowledges India’s commendable work to combat Covid-19. In Goa also my Government has done exceedingly well in managing the Covid crisis under the able leadership of young and dynamic Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant. I congratulate the Chief Minister and his entire team of Ministers, Officers, doctors and corona warriors for successfully controlling the spread of the virus in the State. Similarly, Hon’ble Prime Minister’s clarion call for ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ during the Covid crisis has reverberated across the nation. Goa by launching ‘Swayampurna Goem’, has become a role model for the rest of the country. Under this mission Government Karmacharis have been appointed as Swayampurna Mitras to bridge the gap between Government and public with focus on less Government and more Governance”, the Governor added. “Inspite of various challenges arising from the pandemic my Government has rolled out numerous policies and programmes demonstrating its care and concern for the well being of citizens. Several Central and State welfare schemes have been implemented to better and brighten peoples lives. Tourism has been opened up and has been gaining momentum since September 2020”, the Governor said, similarly there has been significant development of infrastructure by way of National and State highways. The Grid Separator at Dabolim Airport has been completed. The floating jetty at Panaji in River Mandovi has been completed and commissioned. The new prestigious 8-lane Zuari Bridge will shortly be completed and commissioned. Further, the work of construction of new International Airport at Mopa is progressing at a rapid pace. The Goa Investment Promotion Board has granted approval to 196 projects in principle with total investment of Rs.15,780.54 crore and with employment potential of 37,247 persons. Government has launched the online marriage registration systems in November. The 60th Liberation day celebrations were inaugurated by none other than Hon’ble President”, the Governor added. “My Government is very keen to protect the interests of Goa in the Mhadei River Dispute. Vigorous efforts are being made to stop any diversion of waters to Karnataka”, the Governor said. “Goa is a peaceful State and my Government is committed to maintaining a safe and secure environment for its citizens and tourists. Goa continues to enjoy the status of highest per capita income in the country. The State is committed to be in the top three ranks in the forthcoming SDG (Sustainable Development Goals) Index 3.0 publication. The State has also been awarded the best performing State in the country for the second consecutive year by Food Safety and Standard Authority of India (FSSAI)”, the Governor said. “On this great occasion of Republic Day, let us reaffirm our faith in our Constitution and pledge to uphold its integrity in letter and spirit”, the Governor concludes.
