    FRENCH SYMPHONIES From the Nineteenth Century To The Present A Discography Of CDs And LPs Prepared by Michael Herman NICOLAS BACRI (b. 1961) Born in Paris. He began piano lessons at the age of seven and continued with the study of harmony, counterpoint, analysis and composition as a teenager with Françoise Gangloff-Levéchin, Christian Manen and Louis Saguer. He then entered the Paris Conservatory where he studied with a number of composers including Claude Ballif, Marius Constant, Serge Nigg, and Michel Philippot. He attended the French Academy in Rome and after returning to Paris, he worked as head of chamber music for Radio France. He has since concentrated on composing. He has composed orchestral, chamber, instrumental, vocal and choral works. His unrecorded Symphonies are: Nos. 1, Op. 11 (1983-4), 2, Op. 22 (1986-8), 3, Op. 33 "Sinfonia da Requiem" (1988-94) and 5 , Op. 55 "Concerto for Orchestra" (1996-7).There is also a Sinfonietta for String Orchestra, Op. 72 (2001) and a Sinfonia Concertante for Orchestra, Op. 83a (1995-96/rév.2006) .     Music center announces new home, upcoming performances Park International Center for Music Announces 2018-2019 Season and Performance Home of the 1900 Building KANSAS CITY, MO Stanislav Ioudenitch, Artistic Director of Park International Center for Music (Park ICM), announced today that their 2018-2019 season would kick off in September with a new performance home, the 1900 Building in Mission Woods, Kansas. “For the first time, we will perform our entire season at the 1900 Building as we adore performing in their wonderful spaces,” said Ioudenitch. “Now between their two fabulous concert halls and their delicious restaurant, classical music lovers can have a full evening of fine wines and food, and cap it off with our world-class musicians! We are two hidden jewels just now being discovered in the Kansas City arts public.” High res photos can be found here. Park ICM has six different offerings this coming year for classical music lovers, all of which have incredible musicians coming to Kansas City from the world stage. As a part of the season and for the first time, three-selected guest artists, Vladimir Viardo (piano), Shmuel Ashkenasi (violin), and Dang Thai Son (piano) will be presenting an “educational” component as part of the concert. Those in attendance will get to observe and listen to the interaction between a master artist and a gifted ICM student in the preparation and performance of repertoire performed as part of the evening’s program.     The David Oistrakh Quartet features four of today's most outstanding Russian musicians, all soloists in their own right, united in their artistry and their passion for the art of quartet playing. In 2012 the family of the legendary 20th century violinist honored the quartet with his name. The David Oistrakh Quartet frequently performs across Europe in France, Belgium, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and at the most recognized venues in Russia, including all of the country's famous philharmonics halls. Following the recent success of their debut in Japan and the release of their first CD, featuring the works of Tchaikovsky and Shostakovich, the next season takes the Quartet to South America and Hong Kong. 75 years after David Oistrakh’s triumph at the Queen Elisabeth International Violin Competition, the First Violinist of the Quartet, Andrey Baranov, won the first prize in [email protected] 2012. Baranov is also laureate of more than a dozen international competitions including the David Oistrakh, Benjamin Britten, Henri Marteau and Liana Isakadze competitions. His international career has led him to perform as a soloist with the London Philharmonic, Sendai Philharmonic, St-Petersburg Philharmonic, Brussels Philharmonic, National Orchestra of Belgium, Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra, Luxembourg Philharmonic, Montreal Symphony Orchestra, Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra, Mahler Chamber Orchestra Artists Management and MusicAeterna Orchestra.     Nikoloz Rachveli The Rest is Silence Requiem for Holocaust and violence victims for mezzo-soprano, mixed choir and orchestra *40 min World premiere - 19.12 2016 at the Teatro alla Scala Georgian Premiere - 27.12.2017 at the Tbilisi Opera and Ballet Theatre This composition, which was specially created for Anita Rachvelishvili's concert at the Teatro alla Scala, is dedicated to the memory of people who have been tortured and killed unjustly. The final words from Shakespeare's Hamlet are used for a title. The work is based on a poem "Death Fugue”, written by an outstanding poet Paul Celan (1920-1970) about his experience in the Nazi concentration camps. Five-piece vocal cycle consists of Georgian poet Vazha Pshavela’s (1861-1915) poem “I could not save anyone” and poem about Jewish boy - 1st part, 2nd part - The Fest of the Tortured Souls, 3rd - Hebrew lullaby by Emanuel Harussi (1903- 1979), 4th - "Death Fugue" by Paul Celan, and 5th part - Postludium, where Paul Celan reads his own poem written in the concentration camp. After the premiere on December 27, 2017 the mesmerized public was silent for a long time before a standing ovation. "Although defending human rights is the supreme value of humanity, injustice and brutality remains an irreparable problem of nowadays. If we consider the Earth as a whole, we find that the largest percentage of its population is still sacrificed to dictatorship, repression, the death penalty, political and religious confrontations, terrorist acts and territorial conflicts. Mental and technological progress has failed to protect the most vulnerable people until today; the world is still full of displaced refugees, innocent prisoners fighting for the freedom of speech.

Master’s Student Jeremy Wilson Wins a Position in the Vienna Philharmonic Fortepiano Exciting Acquisition— a First for the College of Music rriving in spring 2007 from the McNulty workshop in the Czech Republic, this gorgeous fortepiano, an 1805 Walter und Sohn copy, Ahas already become an important educational and performance tool within the College of Music. Many, many thanks are due to Professor Emeritus Michael Collins, philanthropist Paul Voertman and the National Endowment for the Arts for their generosity that enabled us to purchase this instrument. One of its most interesting uses has been the recording project planned in conjunction with an upcoming book by UNT musicology alumnus James “Chip” Parsons, Professor of Music at Missouri State University and a former student of Professor Collins. A-R Editions will publish Dr. Parsons’ book on early alternate settings of Schiller’s poem “An die Freude” (heard in the famous last movement of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony). The accompanying CD, coordinated by UNT faculty Elvia Puccinelli, will include selections based on the facsimile scores included in the book.
