Krešimir REGAN Kninske utvrde kroz prošlost Starohrvatska prosvjeta UDK: 623.1(497.581Knin)(091) III. serija – svezak/vol. 47/2020. Knin’s fortifications through the past* Thanks to its geostrategic position on the banks of the Krka River in northern Dalmatia, at the intersection of roads that connected the Sa- va-Drava interfluve to the eastern Adriatic coast, the area of Knin has been defended in the past by numerous and typologically different for- tifications. This paper will provide their chronological and typological overview from prehistory to modern times. Keywords: Knin, Dalmatia, Croatia, fortifications, defence complex- es. * Rad je prilagođena i znatno nadopunjena verzija rada Regan 2019, str. 187- 200. * The paper is an adapted and significantly supplemented version of the work by Regan 2019, pp. 187–200. The Congress and the President were prompted to establish the Commission because of the special problem faced by Jewish sites in the region: The communities that had once cared for the properties were annihilated during the Holocaust. The atheistic Communist Party dictatorships that succeeded the Nazis throughout most of the region were insensitive to American Jewish concerns about the preservation of the sites. -
